A vehicular bridge built in 1929 is the first bridge over Singapore River. It lights up in rainbow colors at night.

Always good to have the trusty iPhone with me.

Öjebro, an old stone arch bridge with eight arches, is located north of Linköping.

It is one of the longest in Sweden, 65 meters long and built of granite.

Rush hour traffic over the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the North Shore in the background.

This beautiful scene is the Upper Falls of the Old Man's Cave Trail at Hocking Hills, Ohio. Though there were not many people there at this time, they like to linger on the bridge to take in the expansive view over the plunge pool and into the forest ahead..

This is still true today. In the picture you can see an old stone bridge over a small river. I like these old arch bridges, here a double-arch stone bridge, some of which were built without mortar - at least as far as possible. The bridge is held in place solely by the pressure on the keystones. Simply impressive.

The Arkadiko Bridge is believed to be the oldest existing bridge in the world that is still in use today. The bridge was built sometime around 1300-1200BC and was part of a larger highway in the area. There are three other corbel arch bridges nearby, all similar in design and age.

The structure is 22 metres long, 5.60 metres wide at the base and 4 metres high. The width of the roadway atop is about 2.50 metres. The sophisticated layout of the bridge and the road indicate that they were specifically constructed for use by chariots, the bridge is still used by the local populace.

Please note, the long lines at the bridge is a train crossing.

Life on the Canal Narrowboats under the bridge, one of many across the Kennet and Avon Canal. The Kennet & Avon Canal runs for 87 miles from the centre of Bath to Reading connecting the Bristol channel, river Avon and the river Thames and was important navigation route in the past before railways. Now many narrowboats are home for people living on the water. The A&K Canal is a popular tourist attraction, both on the water and alongside with miles of walks and cycling routes. Fun fact: Built as a trolley bridge in 1908, now there's a garden on it. They call it The Bridge of Flowers, but Charlie and I, so far, find that to be a little misleading. Just do a full-body cringe, grab any parent (one of yours, or not) and run the gauntlet.

With a population of just over one million residents, Austin is the 10th largest city in the United States. The Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Area, now with a population of 2.3M, also is the fastest growing large metropolitan area in the country having added more than 579,000 residents since 2010.

Si-o-se-pol was built between 1599 and 1602,under the reign of Abbas I, the fifth Safavid king (shah) of Iran. It was constructed under the supervision of Allahverdi Khan Undiladze, the commander-in-chief of the armies, who was of Georgian origin, and was also named after him.

The bridge served particularly as a connection between the mansions of the elite, as well as a link to the city's vital Armenian neighborhood of New Julfa. The bridge has a total length of 297.76 metres (976.9 ft) and a total width of 14.75 metres (48.4 ft). It is a vaulted arch bridge consisting of two superimposed rows of 33 arches, from whence its popular name of Si-o-se-pol comes, and is made of stone. The longest span is about 5.60 metres (18.4 ft).

The three coexistent bridges span the River Mynach. The lowest bridge was built between 1075 and 1200, while the middle bridge was built in 1753. The last (and top) bridge was constructed in 1901. The drop from the top bridge to the river is 90 metres.

In order to quell the Jacobites in Scotland General Wade devised a Military Road System throughout Scotland to take soldiers from England to the Highlands of Scotland, many of the arched bridges are incorrectly identified as a "Wades Bridge" just like this one which is actually a Caulfields Bridge. Major Caulfield was one of Wades most important chiefs in Scotland and he oversaw the construction of this bridge in Spittal of Glenshee. Built during the 18th Century mainly by military personell but also with the assistance of trained craftsmen from the local area. This bridge cost a total of £40.00 to construct in 1749, not cheap even by todays standards. It does put into perspective though the importance that the English government put on the construction of the military road through Perthshire and into the Highlands of Scotland.

Last Fall of Light over the Arched Bridge Over Mangartski Potok, Triglav National Park, Slovenia

Back to the stunning country of Slovenia for today's post and a wander through my many, many thousands of images taken during my three months over there last October, November and December. This particular day in early November had me decide to drive up the 6500ft mountain road of the awesome (and to some the terrifyingly high) Mangart Pass.

This pass has some truly outstanding views from up high but this one of the gorgeous arched bridge caught my attention as I descended down to the base of the pass. The scale of the mountains is beautifully shown here when compared to the gorge below. The way the light falls on the mountains themselves has them look three dimensional as the crags and cracks are either bathe in light or hidden in shadows.

Isn't it just stunning? I cannot wait to return in October to show my six workshop clients the views that I so enjoyed for months late last year. They will be astounded and left in awe, of that, there will be no doubt.
