Plant a tree, today, April 29, is Arbor Day! 🌳🌲🌴

Arbor Day (or Arbour in some countries) is a secular day of observance in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees. Today, many countries observe such a holiday. Though usually observed in the spring, the date varies, depending on climate and suitable planting season.

“Listen to the trees as they sway in the wind.

Their leaves are telling secrets. Their bark sings songs of olden days as it grows around the trunks. And their roots give names to all things.

Their language has been lost.

But not the gestures.”

― Vera Nazarian

Leftovers and outtakes. I hope all are having a fine week so far.

As we strolled a neighborhood in San Diego, California, we approached this garden with its fresh lime-green leaves but the arbor surrounded by the flowering bushes and trees was where our eyes were drawn . . . and it is one of those places I sometimes visit in my dreams.

The prehistoric monument of Arbor Low. It consists of a large circular earthwork mound and ditch surrounding an inner raised area with around 50 limestone blocks, all now fallen over. The site is often thought of as the 'Stonehenge' of the north.

I ran across this image in the archives over the weekend. I finally got a ground to doing a simple edit on in LR.

I shot this from the side of the road on a drive up to Forest Falls in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Today we celebrate the Arbor Day in Brazil. I hope we are able to preserve our natural resources so that future generations can continue to celebrate this day, otherwise all we will have will be memories...

The yellow blooming tree is a cambará - very typical at Pantanal (Gochnatia polymorpha).

Wishing everyone a Happy Arbor Day!

Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

The diversity of fir and aspen color amazed me. In contrast with the maple and sweetgum oranges, reds and purples these trees are more subtle in shades of yellow and occasionally orange. Within a week, the color would be gone. A much quicker turning cycle than we see on the East Coast.

A photo of an arbor with a white metal frame, covered in bright purple wisteria and green vines. In the center is a small garden bed filled with colorful flowers like pink roses, yellow daisies, red poppies, orange marigolds, and bluebells. A dog statue sits under one corner of the archway. The ground beneath has smooth stone pavers that have been painted in different colors to create patterns or designs. There is also some lush grass around it all.
