The Aqaba Railway Corporation
transports phosphates from mines near Abiad and Ma'an to the port in Aqaba. The ARC operated only freight trains powered by GE U17C diesel locomotives.

The mud brick ruins of an early 4th century church are now surrounded by the modern city of Aqaba, Jordan. It is considered one of the oldest purpose-built churches in the world.
