Daisy Tree.

Well, there was I messing around with Affinity on the iPad late one evening (should have been tucked up)...

... and I came across the Apply Image filter which I’d not had occasion to use before so I thought I'd give it a try with whatever jpeg I could find on the ‘paddle. I had been working on a double-trunked tree image with some hope of a monochrome, and the image I found was of a shasta daisy that I had published before.

And the combination was really quite interesting, especially in Exclusion blend mode. What fun.

So here it is, with a few extra tweaks but nothing majorly different from the basic Apply Image/Exclusion effect. I guess that the blend mode is doing most of the work here and the filter itself very much depends on the images you choose. Miss Serendipity was her most alluring and generous self.

This is just a quick one for Sliders Sunday then, as I don’t have time for much else today alas. I’ll post the in-camera images linked in the first comment so that you can see where it all started...

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday :)

Happy Abstract Saturday, my friends! I no longer remember all the steps I took to create this design. Obviously I've layered photos in Photoshop, cropped out square format tiles, and made a mosaic. Beyond that I no longer know! Hope you enjoy the result! ;-)

AND having done all that processing, the Whirl definitely belongs to Sliders Sunday! HSS, my friends!

This works best with an object on a plain background rather than a busy background. In fact it won't work any other way. This is actually a crap example of it because I had to paint the butterfly and it looks like hell. I also included a drop shadow that wasn't originally there.

1) Go to channels palette.

2) Pick channel with most contrast (usually blue).

3) Make copy of that channel.

4) Go to Image>Apply Image. Click OK

5) With Blue Copy channel open, make it as b/w as you can. This is going to be a mask.

6) If it's black-on-white, invert so it's white-on-black. (or invert it during Load Selection)

7) Pick RGB channel, go to Layers palette.

8) Select>Load Selection

9) Object should show selection marching ants.

10) Copy it and paste it onto a new file. Set feather at 1 px.

11) Insert any background you want.

Happy Abstract Saturday to all of you, my Flickr friends! And a special thank you, Carrie McGann! :D

Playing with Photoshop I layered image after image - I don't know which ones any more or how many - until I achieved an effect I liked. Hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
