Klinkt de Atlantische Oceaan anders dan de Indische? Zijn oceaanstromingen in een IJszee fundamenteel anders dan in een tropische zee? Componist Stef Veldhuis werkte samen met oceaanonderzoekers Erik van Sebille en Will de Ruijter om die vragen te beantwoorden. Duizenden oceaansondes wereldwijd verzamelen data die wordt gebruikt voor weersvoorspellingen en klimaatmodellen. Die gegevens vormen nu de basis voor muzikale elementen als toonhoogte, dynamiek en ritme. Tijdens het symposium Music by Oceans op 31 oktober speelde een strijkkwartet de resulterende muziekstukken en vertelden onderzoekers over de oceaanstromingen waarop de composities gebaseerd zijn.

Hajeck originally went to art school at Fachhochschule Düsseldorf to study graphic design, yet switched to illustration classes when he decided he did not want to spend his career in front of the computer. Spending his early professional years in Amsterdam, he took advantage of the social scene to gain connections as a freelance illustrator. His work primarily as an illustrator gained him many print and advertising campaigns, and Hajeck became a strong asset in the Global Contemporary Art Community, even teaching alongside famed fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.

Blazing Fast Relief
Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) teams may be one of most important parts of wildfires that you’ve probably never heard of. As the last flames of a raging fire are being contained, these BAER crews begin safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources threatened by additional perils that fires create. Now, a NASA tool is helping teams quickly integrate data from various satellites, like Suomi NPP, Terra, and Landsat, so BAER teams can focus their time on wildfire recovery and rehabilitation.
