A homemade Apple Crisp. Just came out of the oven and dusted with powder sugar. It smells so fragrant with the cinnamon and well, looks so tempting, too! So, got to get a spoon to start digging in!

"Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree." - Martin Luther

I managed to make away with a slice of my Granny's Apple Crisp after yesterday's (Canadian) Thanksgiving feast.
I wasn't sure if there's be any left, it's a highly requested dish and Granny only makes it on family gathering occasions, so I stationed myself in the kitchen and "helped" serve the dessert.
Of course, that meant that my piece made it's way into a Tupperware container rather than on a plate so that worked out perfectly for me.
Hope everyone has had a very sweet Sunday.

Not the definition I would choose, but Tiger, the Danish variety store, labels its apple crisps as APPLE CHIPS. And very tasty they are too!

This shot was taken just a few minutes before this one. I decided to upload this one too, for Matt and Randy. :)

I made Apple Crisp and sometimes I cool it down with my little kitchen fan.
Walks in the country, a drive to the farmers market, evenings by the fire, morning strolls with the puppies who drag in more leaves than the wind, homemade Apple Crisp for friends on a chilly Sunday afternoon. These are just a few of my favorite autumn things. Life is Good.
I wish you a beautiful weekend.

Please no awards or graphics. Invites are welcome in words. Thank you!
This recipe of Apple Crisp is my fave. It is cooked twice, which is unusual. I made some Coconut Caramel Sauce to put on it...Yummy!

Last night we had our book group meeting here so I got to choose the book for this month. This is an amazing book about a woman who relates to animals more than people. She's a brilliant scientist but writes like a dream.
One copy is mine, one for Allison who has twin 6 month old babies, wild 4 year old twin boys and an autistic 7 year old. It was the least I could do for her! The other is for Dawn who is as close to a daughter as you can get without sharing DNA. My other friends will probably get the book on their devices as most read that way.
The recipe is from an ancient Fanny Farmer cookbook, stained and well loved with old fashioned recipes that taste like my childhood.
It's What's For Dessert
Stu went over to Indian Creek Farm (they do not spray their produce!) yesterday and brought me back 7 huge cooking apples. Today they turned into a very large pan of Apple Crisp. It smells so yummy in here right now :)
This was badly stained on the inside when I found it, but I didn't care (didn't even clean it!) cuz I knew what this pan would be perfect for. Have had it for ages, so it's been crisped plenty of times already. ;)
gratitudes: long stretches of reading time, a long walk/run while listening to brene brown, stories and pictures from an icy hike, time to putter in the kitchen, apple crisp, tired and grateful kids, swirling snow.
There still so much food around. I decided to use some in an apple crisp for today's treat. Hope all my USA friends had a beautiful day on Thanksgiving.
One of my first photographs taken with the new iphone 6 plus. The phone size is a little unwieldy, but now I think I'd have a hard time going back to a smaller screen. One of the main reasons I bought it was for the camera. As you can see the detail and color is pretty incredible.
Pre-Thanksgivihg baking. Apple crisp with a mini apple (or maybe they're mini Pumpkins?) crust topping.

This photo was posted previously in a different version. Here I have cropped out the center in-focus poppy and given it the spotlight all by itself.
Morning prep time: 10 minutes. Full details here with thoughts on using thermal food jars for pasta.
After gym this morning, I headed up to Whole Foods and grabbed some groceries. I made a point of getting some beautiful Granny Smith apples so I can make Stu another dish of Hazelnut Apple Crisp. He's been asking me to make it, but I was too busy today, so I will do it tomorrow for sure.

I made some apple crisp and often cool it with my kitchen fan. I love these clip-on fans, they are very convenient to use in small areas.
CRISP as in Apple Crisp!
I got my recipe from my Mom that got it from her Mama. I have been eating this late Summers and early Falls as far back as I can remember!
You can't make this wrong! I have added blueberries to the apples and I have made the crumble mix and topped fresh peaches with delicious results. Once, I used granola cereal when I was out of quick oats...Enjoy your apple crisp!
(If I don't have fresh apples in the house, I have used two cans of canned apple pie filling instead, This makes the recipe really easy AND fast :)
Ingredients:
Apple Filling
3 pounds apples, peeled and cored
1 pound = 4 small apples OR 3 medium apples OR about 2 large apples.
1/4 cup sugar
1 lemon, juiced
2 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Crumble Topping:
1 stick butter, cut into small pieces
1 1/4 cup quick oats
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch of salt
If the apples are really sweet you may consider reducing the amount of sugar in the recipe. Also you can make other variations to the oats crumble like adding some chopped almonds or raisins or chopped nuts.
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a 9X13 inch baking dish, with margarine, butter or a oil spray.
In a large bowl mix together the flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon, salt and add- ins if used. Cut in butter to the flour mixture, using a pastry blender or a fork, until crumbs are formed.
Slice apples into 1/4 inch slices. Transfer the apples into a large bowl and toss with sugar, lemon juice, flour and cinnamon.
Spread them out into the prepared baking dish.
Add the crumbles over the apples.
Bake for about 45-55 minutes until apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
Makes about 6-8 servings
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or honey yogurt.
I don't know why, but Sunday seems to be the day I really go all out and bake! Not only did I make a rice dish, but I also made apple crisp and baked delicata squash. We both enjoyed our lunch today!
Got my Chef's hat on today and made Coconut Caramel Sauce and Apple Crisp from scratch! I love caramel, it's my favourite sweet. I'm going to enjoy a little of this later.
Well, it's later now and I had some...MMMMM!!!

I consider myself a Foodie. I love to bake & cook and do it every day. I love this particular recipe, It has a different twist from other Apple Crisps I have made in past years.
The same late December afternoon I discovered the abundance of deciduous Magnolia buds on both the Magnolias, I found our last apple hanging on the tree.
Note: I later discovered the apple on the ground after it had fallen from its heights. A still life of it and other winter bounty has been added.

Buds of the deciduous Magnolia (commonly miscalled a "Tulip Tree") in late December. The buds will burst into blossom in February. We have two of these trees; their flowers are a rich pink.
One of my Flickr shots (pre-Nikon days) of the blossoms in February are shown
