Family Arecaceae. c.nucifera is the only species n this fmly. In Sanskrit it is known as kalpa vriksha, which translates as "the tree which provides all the necessities of life"

Sculptor Dennis Oppenheim in front of his sculpture "Entrance to a Garden" in front of the VF Wranger building on Elm Street.
I shot this while he was giving an interview to a camera crew. Borrowing an 85mm1.4 AIS from a friend.

Fritz is an 89 year old artist who was part of the "Fantastical Realism" movement back in the late 40s and 50s. He currently resides in Greensboro and is still painting.

B/W conversion was done in CS3 Camera Raw, and then I applied a custom Quadtone.
Strobist: ambient was generally underexposed 1 and 1/3 stops. 1 SB600 with shoot through 32" umbrella camera left set to 1/2 power on the 50mm zoom setting, 1 SB26 slaved camera right slightly behind subject (for kicker light) set to 24mm zoom setting. Flashes were fired using the wireless commander mode on my D200. Lens= Nikon 50mm 1.8
