One of the townships where black residents were forced to move to during apartheid, the upheaval for these poor people was traumatic.

This is the house on Vilakazi Street in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, that was the home of Bishop Desmond Tutu and his wife. During the time that Tutu lived here he became a Nobel Laureate for his struggles against apartheid and he led the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for President Nelson Mandela. Unfortunately, I did not get a clear shot of the Mandela House which is at 8115 Vilakazi Street.

Anti-Vaxxers demonstrating through Manchester City Centre. I’ve not heard the word ‘Apartheid’ used in a medical sense before but I suppose in this case it works….!

Harry Beckett (tr) and Claude Deppa (tr), part of the wonderful project "Jazz gegen Apartheid - zwischen Heimkehr und Exil". The music is dedicated to the life and work of John Dyani, the fight against apartheid and life in exile. The projekt has been existing since 1986.

The beginnings of the official Apartheid policy in 1950: a law that defines who is white and who is not.

Please apologize my small apartheid from posting my pictures.... No, this is not one of mine but I wish it was ... I also wish I could attend the upcoming Torres del Paine Photography Exhibit of Francisco Espildora... but it is unfortunately not in my plans or my budget at this point in time. My consolation prize is the fabulous book that Francisco published around Christmas. Because I was travelling most of January and February, I asked him to await my return from Arizona before shipping the book to me. I received my copy of the Limited Deluxe Edition of the book last night and it is truly a masterpiece. Only 20 copies of the Deluxe Edition were printed and I must say the quality of the images and of the printing is simply outstanding. I do not own any other wildlife books of this beauty and quality. Truly a Work of Art! There is also an edition of the book for those with a more limited budget. And for those with no budget at all, there is a fabulous website that I invite you to visit for free :) You will not be disappointed by Francisco's work... it is time well spent!

Thank you in advance for supporting Francisco and for taking the time to visit his website.

The South African Defense Force comprised the South African armed forces from 1957-1994 when the Apartheid Regime dissolved. It was mainly composed of White South Africans who alone were subject to military conscription. During their existence, SADF troops were used in crushing opposition to White rule in South Africa. Some units were deployed to fight alongside Pretoria's allies in Angola, Mozambique, and Rhodesia with their enemies mainly consisting of African nationalists and communists. They were vehemently opposed to colonial rule in Africa and South Africa was seen as an old colonial regime. While South Africa's allies did not win in any of the conflicts the SADF participated in, it was still a force to be reckoned with on the African Continent. The SADF would be replaced by the South African National Defense Force in 1994.

I thought this was a pretty neat figure Alex made so I had to take a picture of it with my foliage in the background. More actual mocs will be coming soon.

the godfather of british hip hop in style

Rodney P (born Rodney Panton in Battersea, London) is an English[1] MC who entered the UK hip hop scene in the 1980s. He started out as a member of the London Posse, one of the UK's first home grown hip hop acts who were highly influential in the development of the genre. Rodney P has had one of the longest and most respected careers in UK hip hop. Also known as da riddim killa, he cites the reggae he heard while growing up as a second-generation West Indian immigrant as an influence on his dub-heavy music.

In 1986 The London Posse were invited by Mick Jones of The Clash to support his new band Big Audio Dynamite on a UK tour. A recording contract with Big Life records followed, and Rodney P went on to support hip-hop heavyweights N.W.A. and Soul II Soul in the early nineties.

The decision to guard his creative control led to the birth of his own label Riddim killa, a collaboration with Low Life Records, one of the leading labels of the rapidly growing scene. He was introduced to DJ Skitz by a mutual friend from the Deal Real workshop in the West End, and appears on Skitz’s albums Countryman and Homegrown volume 1. The pair went on to host a show on the BBC 1Xtra radio station, a leading black music network, which ran for five years until 2007. This development in his career led to involvement in radio documentaries, including a programme recorded in Johannesburg about the aftermath of Apartheid.

His other recordings include tracks with high profile DJs and producers such as The Nextmen, One Mike, Mystro and Plus One, and alongside fellow MCs Roots Manuva, Skinnyman and Dynamite MC. His open-minded attitude to music is demonstrated in his collaborations with dance acts Roni Size and Freq Nasty, and even more surprisingly with Björk and Nitin Sawhney, as well as Greek hip hop crew Active Member. He continues to dominate the live scene as one of the most sought after artists, taking the mic both on the UK circuit and with his contemporaries from across the Atlantic. Recent appearances include the MF Prince's Trust Concert with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys and the United Nations Habitat Charity Concert alongside Jazzy Jeff, Dead Prez and Mos Def, as well as regular appearances at London’s legendary Fabric live nights.

He was also featured on Mark B and Blade's We Stay Rough, which was on their only album The Unknown.

Rodney P is also currently the host on the television series "Dubplate Drama" shown on Channel 4, E4 and MySpace.
