A chance encounter with the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad interchanging with the Kansas City Southern at Howe, Oklahoma led to a westward chase along a former Rock Island line. Here east of Wister, Oklahoma the road's pair of "Super 7's" in Rock Island-inspired red and yellow trundle over a nice wooden trestle.

Arkansas & Oklahoma Railroad former BNSF GP30u 2442 & a former BNSF B40-8W rest In McAlester, OK. waiting on their next days assignment.
A pair of ex Santa Fe GP30u's in AOK paint and an ex Santa Fe GP35 still in ATSF colors lead an AOK train on the former Rock Island Memphis-Tucumcari mainline through Harrah,OK east towards Shawnee,OK. Hard to imagine the fast freights and passenger trains that once plied the rails here.

Late in the evening, we made it to Mcalester, OK and shot Arkansas & Oklahoma Railroad B23-7S7 #4098 (ex-Western Pacific U23B) sitting near the crossing with the Union Pacific mainline.
The AOK trackage West of here is out of service and to the East it is full of stored cars so I am guessing that they only do local work around town?
