* Sometimes we need to burn our fears and forget our losses and just ride in a fast car and fly... *

" You got a fast car

I want a ticket to anywhere

Maybe we make a deal

Maybe together we can get somewhere

Anyplace is better

Starting from zero got nothing to lose

Maybe we'll make something... "

Taxi to Elvion Dreamland

Im Sturz durch Raum und Zeit

Richtung Unendlichkeit

Fliegen Motten in das Licht

Genau wie du und ich

Wrap your fingers 'round my neck

You don't speak my dialect

But our images reflect

Drawn together by the flame

We are just the same

Embrace the wind and fall into

Another time and space

Gib' mir die Hand

Ich bau dir ein Schloss aus Sand

Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann

If we belong to each other, we belong

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

Im Sturz durch Zeit und Raum

Erwacht aus einem Traum

Nur ein kurzer Augenblick

Dann kehrt die Nacht zurück

Bits and pieces from your storm

Rain upon me as they form

Melt into my skin and I feel warm

Sweep upon me like a wave

We are young and brave

Embrace the wind and float into

Another time and space

Gib' mir die Hand

Ich bau dir ein Schloss aus Sand

Irgendwie irgendwo irgendwann

If we belong to each other, we belong

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

I'm going to any world you're coming from

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

If we belong to each other, we belong

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

I'm going to any world you're coming from

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

If we belong to each other, we belong

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

I'm going to any world you're coming from

Anyplace, anywhere, anytime

On the morning that I was getting ready to leave my hotel and head home, I stepped out on the patio and grabbed this shot. After I looked at it for a while, I almost feel like it would be a pretty good shot without the boats.

..lol..I love you guys..;) So, no, I've never owned goats. When I was 5 the people next door to us had goats and I use to ride them..;) Anyway, I just remember goats being fun. Probably wouldn't be as much fun now. I just has a little nostalgic moment. And, no, I don't have anyplace to keep them.

Since it looks like we're in this virus thing for the long haul, I got 3 new pairs of sweat pants..:)

"Nemesis" - Cooper's Hawk - It's been said that the Cooper's Hawk prefers feathers over fur (they will take rodents in a heartbeat if opportunity arises), but, this hawk is probably the number one predator of the MULTITUDE of doves we have here in the Tucson area. In fact, Tucson has the densest population of Cooper's Hawks per sq/mi then anyplace else in the U. S. An abundance of food will do that.

Just a groovy little motorbike.

It's more fun than a barrel of monkeys,

That two-wheeled bike.

It's never a problem finding somewhere to eat in Thailand. A common expression is, "Kin khang thanon" which literally means 'eat beside the road'. The street food is just as good as and in many cases better than any restaurant.

My Best Grizzly Pose

After over 50 trips to Alaska from the lower 48 states, I have seen the bears doing almost anything and anyplace. This grizzly bear was taking it easy when we traveled through Polychrome in Denali National Park. As we approached his resting spot, he tilted his head our way and struck this pose. Earlier photographers said he was rolling down the side of the hill. Guess, he is doing his best to entertain the tourists. Just really glad he did not walk away before I got a few shots. Hope you enjoy.

We had a trip to Great Sand Dunes planned, so I hit the web doing research for the place. Everyone seemed to have the same thing to say- sand and cardio. Sand will be everywhere and you will die from climbing the dunes. Well, both were true. I left sore and with sand in everything. I was very careful with the lenses though. Never changed them in the field, and used an older 70-210. I also hit the dunes at sunset, because sunrise finds the dunes hidden in shadows of the mountains next door.

The plan worked great. I came away with more images from here than anyplace else on the trip. I usually edit all my images and then decide what gets posted, but I could not wait when I had so many great images. Here is my favorite so far. This is a slow shutter tripod image blended with a fast shutter to show the detail and show the motion of the sand.

Let me know what you think.

This image shows part of the Iron Mountain Road in Custer State Park. Designed by Peter Norbeck this 17 mile road goes form Custer State Park to Mount Rushmore. This whole road was designed to enjoy the ride, it took twists and turns and included unnecessary tunnels and turns. The road was designed for enjoyment, not efficiency. There are three tunnels, one shown here.

I love the idea of someone designing a road for the enjoyment of the road. It forces you to slow down and enjoy the Black Hills. When in the Black Hills I enjoy this stretch of road probably more than Mount Rushmore. So on this trip I wanted to pay homage to this by doing some cool night photography.

We drove the road specifically looking for someplace we could capture the essence of the road. The trouble is, there is hardly anyplace to pull over and stop. I really wanted an image that would show the wood supports of the bridges, but settled on this curve and tunnel, because they show the sheer unnecessary elements of the road that I love! Even here we had to park on the other side of the tunnel and walk to this spot. We then had to climb up on some rocks to shoot down as much as possible. There were no cars on the road at this hour, so we uses two way radios to take turns driving the truck through this part. we then walked the street with lights to fill in the trees. This is a composite, though my buddy Tom wanted to do it in one frame, and his looks great too! We tried this several different ways, driving in the middle of the road, drive both ways on each side of the street. In the end, I liked this simple one-pass, two color approach. It just looked so clean.

Let me know what you think, and when in the Black Hills, you MUST visit this sensational, inefficient road. Its more American than the guys on the hill for sure.

Did you see the sky

I think it means that we’ve been lost

Maybe one less time is all we need

I can’t really help it if my tongue’s all tied in knots

Jumping off a bridge, it’s just the farthest that I’ve ever been

Anywhere you go, I’ll follow you down

Anyplace but those I know by heart

Anywhere you go, I’ll follow you down

I’ll follow you down, but not that far

We found several of these very curious, friendly birds up jeep trails many miles from anyplace where they would regularly come into contact with people. On several occasions, they literally flew from trees where they were perched directly toward us, stopping and landing just feet away or hovering over our heads. This one was one of two who spent almost two hours posing for us!

Anytime, Anywhere, Anyplace...

“Fast Car” is a song by American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman.

Whether we're standin' on a doorstep

Or sittin' at a park

Or strollin' down shady lane

Or dancin' in the dark

Well I can take you in my arms

And look into your pretty eyes

Anyplace is paradise

When I'm with you

Ok, yes, it is very hard to visit anyplace with prairie dogs and not shoot a million images. These little guys are cute, and they pose all the time.

Here we are at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, South Unit. This little fella was about 6 feet from me and I happened to have the 600 on the body. He was on all fours, but when he saw me, he stood up and struck this sideways pose. He totally wanted a close up, he was asking for it. So he got it. Immortalized in CMOS forever (that's the kind of camera sensor my 6DMII uses).

Enjoy. Let me know what you think. I will pass the comments on to the model, he gave me his business card and email address. You can contact him directly if you want, its CaptainPretentious24@NPS.com.

It's starting to get cold enough that birds and little critters are trying to find anyplace warm!

This manicured lawn is nicest of all Mumbai – in fact, I don’t think I have seen grass anyplace else in Mumbai!

Anita and I were up in West Virginia on Sunday, near Romney. As usual she was driving, but when I want to get a particular shot she is always very obliging. I wanted this scene, but there wasn't anyplace to pull of the road so she slowed the car to a crawl, and with window down, I started snapping away. This was the best of those shots! It was a fantastic day out exploring the back roads of West Virginia and meeting some really nice people. I think most probably we will be going back there in the spring or summer.

our most deep sympathy and thoughts for the families and victims of Barcelona...and of anyplace in the world where violence tries to challenge peace and love...no matter what race, what ideology, what religion, what gender...have no fear, love is much stronger than hate...

"We're here because we're not all there". You've got to love anyplace with that motto. That place is Yachats, OR, a gem on the Oregon coast. Here is a view looking south, across the mouth of the river there.

Certainly not anyplace like Conneaut, Shenango or Albion, this orange tunnel is currently making the rounds in cross-town transfer service for CN. Witness train L53691-01, awaiting a recrew at 16th St. Tower right in the city of Chicago. While the 908 has certainly seen better days, I'm certainly not going to complain about the sight of it.

I once ran across an image of Upana Caves when doing research for another project. The cave was so distinctive that it stuck in my memory and became a real bucket list item for me. That freaky inverted witches hat at the entrance seemed so distinctive. Well, it was not hard to talk my family into going. My family and I love caves, and when looking into Vancouver Island I was amazed to see that they have more known caves than anyplace on the planet! Who knew! So it was off to Canada.

The island is filled with so many interesting places to visit, especially for a landscape photographer. I came back with thousands f images. In some ways I think shooting this particular cave was too easy. This cave has trails, and signage, its just off the road. I think this island is truly an untapped wonderland for landscape photography. So much of the island seems quite unexplored, especially when it comes to caves.

I have mentioned this before in my posts, but I have to mention it again. I think there is something magical about when nature meets man. My favorite landscape images are usually when the WPA has built a wall in a great location, or a staircase, or something that enhances a location in way that was distinctively a human intervention. I am not sure why, but the intersection of humans and landscapes, in a way that respects nature, is my favorite thing about landscape photography. Like the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier, or Cliff Dwellings in Mesa Verde. So here, these stairs seem magical to me. Yes, I know, that probably sounds odd, and certainly at odds with most landscape photogs. I can't fully explain it. I feel the same magic when I walk through a place like Central Park. Knowing that Olmsted sculpted the nature and designed the intended emotional response makes it so much more interesting. Anyway, enjoy the stairs. :)

“I saw in their eyes something I was to see over and over in every part of the nation- a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any Here. They spoke quietly of how they wanted to go someday, to move about, free and unanchored, not toward something but away from something. I saw this look and heard this yearning everywhere in every states I visited. Nearly every American hungers to move.” - John Steinbeck

Seeing we can't travel and visit anyplace new I am traveling through my old photos and adding to my Portugal album.

Last Sunday we had a destination in mind and it was this place. Officially named the Gaudineer Scenic Area we have renamed it the Fairy Forest. I have never been anyplace in this world as magical as this. This is our third visit to this place and each time we have been richly rewarded with a sense of peace, timelessness and a little bit of a sense of the magical. There is a deep silence to the forest muted no doubt by the moss that grows on everything. It's an easy walk (even for me!) around a loop trail with a Stunning scene about half way that looks out over a valley and the mountains beyond and there's a nice bench to sit and enjoy the view. The moss this time was covered in frost and because it had rained the night before many of the tree branches had tiny little frozen, sparkling drops of water on them. I truly wish everyone had a place like this when the world is crowding your brain and stress is the order of the day. Such a blessed place to go!

Did you know?

A single, captive male Carolina wren reportedly sang some 3,000 times in one day.

Relative:

Size relative to a tea cup

Please add a "relative" entry to your dictionary.

The Carolina wren is an adaptable dweller of forestlands, swamps, farms, and tree-filled human communities.

Carolina wrens (Thryothorus ludovicianus) are small but very vocal animals. Males are especially outgoing and are the only ones to produce songs. They employ one of the loudest songs per volume of birds. They are apt to sing anytime and anyplace they happen to be.

Carolina wrens are usually found in pairs, and each pair stays on its home territory all year long. Because these wrens cannot survive cold winters, they tend to live in southern climes, and are the official state bird of South Carolina. They are found as far north as the Great Lakes, and warm winters spur them to extend their range northward. However, when colder years arrive, many northern birds are unable to survive and fringe populations plummet.

These large wrens feed on insects, larvae, and spiders but also eat berries and fruit. They forage on or near the ground and hop along far more often than they fly. They use their bills to poke about and search for hidden meals and try to remain close to brush in which they can hide.

Carolina wrens are monogamous, and breeding pairs may stay together for years. They work together to construct nests—which may be found almost anywhere. Wrens nest in natural locations such as branches, tree-holes, and stumps but also frequent windowsills, mailboxes or other attractive human-made spots.

Females lay about four eggs and incubate them for two weeks while their mates bring them food. Both parents feed their chicks for an additional two weeks before they gain independence. A mating pair of Carolina wrens may have several broods each year.

I happened to go into this parking structure and I was amazed at what a great paint job it had on the inside. There was total attention to detail and they made everything bright and the paint job was perfect, There was no slopping paint onto the light fixtures or anyplace else where it wasn't supposed to be. They took the extra time to do it really well.

♫ Triumph - Long Time Gone ♫

The voice of reason begs the fighting takes its toll

You're bangin' big square pegs into little round holes

But I'll go anyplace your heart goes and you know

The music plays and the heart obeys

You gotta keep this thing together

But you don't know the why or how

It's getting hard to find forever

In the state of here and now

Ok, yes, this park is amazing, and yes, it was very picturesque. But I have to tell you two things about shooting here at night.

First, the humidity killed me. I am not used to shooting in such high humidity, and you guessed it, I was totally fogged over and had to wait for my lens to acclimate. This brings me to my second point.

I hate to say negative things about anyplace, especially a great City like Savanah, but, this park did not feel safe in the dark. I could feel creepers creeping in on us while I was stuck waiting for the lens to de-fog. Yeah, I could have just left, but I really wanted this image. So this was a scary 20 minutes for sure. Sitting ducks.

So we had to shoot this in a hurry, but it turned out fine. I was with my son who is now taller than I am and together I guess we looked formidable enough to keep most creeps away.

The image- naturally this had to be a blend to take the highlights.

While it's not unheard of, it was still a rude shock. It was actually predicted but I didn't pay much attention. In a time of self-isolation I wasn't going anyplace anyway. :-/

As you can see on my balcony thermometer, it was cold enough to stick for a while. Luckily it did not. A couple of hours later the snow was all gone except for on hilltops and grassy lawns. A week later, we have highs of 18 - 20 degrees Celsius.
