High atop Shade Mountain in Snyder County, Pennsylvania stands Mt Pigsah Altar. It was built by Robert Cryan of Beaver Springs in 1979 and offered to the public as a place where people could come and worship quietly or hold marriage ceremonies with a breathtaking view of 25-30 miles. This was my first outing with this particular pinhole camera in over a year and with the film sitting in the camera for that long, it developed a "fat roll" which led to some light leaks. Lessons learned. Load the film, shoot the film and don't let it sit for protracted periods of time.

Back to recent photos with this upload. I thought I was seeing things on Monday when I saw the back of this one in the distance, such is the likelihood of spotting anything interesting these days. To add a bit of context, this actual parking area was where I first spotted the Fiat Uno that would go on to become my introduction to the world of actually owning classics and not just looking at them, from which I've never looked back, and have felt very privileged to be able to do that.
Australia Northern Railroad was a short lived corporate entity to highlight Genesee & Wyoming's involvement in the construction of the Alice Springs to Darwin railway. Expansion of its Australian franchise and partnership with Wesfarmers soon saw ANR for subsumed by Australian Railroad Group.
(Ironically ANR was the acronym for Australian National Railways the purchase of which heralded G & W's arrival in Australia.)
In the 'bargain of the century' G & W purchased 16 surplus 422 EMD-powered units from New South Wales state owned operator Freightcorp in 2000.
Four of these were refurbished for use on Alice - Darwin construction trains and were lined up at the Dry creek Motive Power centre (Adelaide) in November 2001 prior to despatch north.

Despite Australia's reputation for sunshine, the weather can be fickle at times, even in the midst of summer. I'd managed to grab a nice 'sunny' less than an hour before I took this shot, but by the time V/Line units C503/S306/C502 were climbing Warla Bank with 1AM0 intermodal on Sunday morning 29 January 1995 the cloud had totally gunked in.

The large corn crib and main barn located on the 274 acre Best family farm on the Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, Maryland.
Because of its proximity to the Georgetown Pike and Monocacy Junction, portions of both the Union and Confederate armies camped at the Best Farm throughout the Civil War. On September 13, 1862, during the Maryland Campaign, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's lost order No. 191 (which outlined his army's movements) was found on the Best Farm by Union soldiers from the 27th Indiana. Passed up through the chain of command, the captured order gave Union General George B. McClellan advance notice of his enemy's movements. The discovery marked a pivotal point in the war through the Maryland region.
From my ongoing "Farmscapes of the Civil War" project which in 2019 is in its fifth year of shooting.
