never thin enough

And for a moment, for a moment, I find hope.

I went to a cafe with my friend from a primary school. She was worried but I told her not to. I also convinced her that I would go to psychologist. Well... I wanted to go eventually. What did I had there? Coffee.

because he likes to run....

Behind the scenes on this image: www.promotingpassion.com/creating-a-self-portrait/

...And I'm also taking a moment to talk about self-portraiture, the harsh judgments, and the control we have over that conversation.

In my first few months of creating, I shared an image that showed my rib bones heavily accentuated - on purpose - for the story of the image. I got many hateful comments calling me names for being too skinny, anorexic, etc. It upset me, made me feel terrible about myself. And, to boot, I was also receiving emails saying I was too ugly to create self-portraits.

The next time I made an image where my bones showed, I intentionally directed the conversation. I talked about the choice that I made to do that, the story behind the image, the theme, and suddenly, the image wasn't about me or the model anymore. It was about the art.

I've learned over the years how to find control in the vulnerability of sharing art. How to let negative comments roll off my back. How to take ownership of what I put out there.

I wanted to talk a little bit about beauty and our perception of reality. While it's true that everyone has their own perception of beauty including strange fetishes, beauty is also a mass marketed phenomenon.

Some may think it's superficial to talk about beauty and there are many problems with the concept of current beauty realizations...it is narrow in terms of age and body image for sure. It makes young girls into anorexics and it makes older women feel useless.

I would like to talk about a different issue inherent in the marketing of beauty: Racism. Though there are a few models who are women of color, most models are white. Most magazine spreads feature white women. Most mannequins are white. Most childhood dolls are white. After awhile, you realize that we're not socialized to view women of color as beautiful. And then you see all the skin whitening creams and you feel like you're going to throw up your heart.

I know I am just one person but, if I could do anything right as a photographer, it would be to show the beauty of every woman no matter age or figure but especially women of color.

On one of my three trips to Coachella, I had an assignment: To find beautiful women to photograph. Now, let it be known that I have a hard time approaching any woman and asking if I can take her photograph. Out of 100 women, I will find about 70 of them very attractive and out of 100 men, maybe 7. The female form is curvaceous, intriguing, but also somewhat intimidating to me, even though I myself have one.

But, I noticed when I approached women on an official assignment that I needed to photograph a beautiful woman, they all agreed to have their photograph taken.

So, I submitted about 100 photos of beautiful women to the publication I was assigned (I was really there to photograph music anyway but this was an interesting side project).

Out of the 100 photos of beautiful women I submitted, less than 5 of them were white.

It's not that I don't find white women attractive but, let's face it, we need to change society's perception. And, it's not like I think magically viewing women of color as beautiful is going to suddenly make Black lives matter to police officers. However, I do believe our mental health and physical health are connected and I do think that changing the perception of the idea that you have to be white to be beautiful removes some of that damage. We need to make our public education system better, we need single payer healthcare, we need police officers who don't get away with murder, and an end to institutionalized racism more. But, here I am a mere photographer showing you my vision of the world and this is it:

This woman is beautiful. Her genetics are beautiful. Her skin is beautiful. Her identity is beautiful. She may be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. And, this woman let me take her photograph with her permission and I told her, "You are the most beautiful of them all."

She will always be beautiful. We must do our own work as photographers in this world. Otherwise, what's the point of being alive and owning a camera?

Self Portrait. Obviously, unhappy with weight/body/self.

She's a perfect 10,

but she wears a 12

Baby keep a little 2 for me

She could be sweet 16,

bustin' out at the seams

It's still love in the first degree

When he's at my gate,

with a big fat 8

You wanna see the smile on my face

And even at my door,

with a poor poor 4

There ain't no man can replace

'Cause we love our love,

in different sizes

I love her body,

especially the lines

Time takes its toll,

but not on the eyes

Promise me this, take me tonight

If he's extra large

well I'm in charge

I can work this thing on top

If he's XXL well what the hell

Every penny don't fit the slot

The anorexic chicks, the model 6

They don't hold no weight with me

Well 8 or 9, well that's just fine

But I like to hold something I can see

'Cause we love our love,

in different sizes

I love her body,

especially the lines

Time takes its toll,

but not on the eyes

Promise me this, take me tonight

I've bought a watch, to time your beauty

But I've had to fit a second hand

I've bought a calendar, and every month

Is taken up by lover man

'Cause we love our love,

in different sizes

I love her body,

especially the lines

Time takes it's toll,

but not on the eyes

Promise me this, take me tonight

In a survey of girls 9 and 10 years old, 40% have tried to lose weight, according to an ongoing study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (USA Today, 1996).

One author reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are "unhappy with their bodies." This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen (Brumberg, 1997).

It's just plain sad.

On a lighter note, I went to the bins yesterday with Lillie and her stepmom Jenny and I bought a whole bag of 80'sness. Though, that swimsuit is actually from a different thrift store. Haha.

But anyway yeah, lots of new clothes for me and the LABYRINTH SOUNDTRACK. (On vinyl of course.) Yeahyeahyeah.

Oh and yesterday I beat my record for views and got 4002 in one day, and like, 203 of both comments and favorites. Thankyouthankyouthankyou! :)

Your body isn't ugly. Society is.

Anorexia: An eating disorder, chiefly in young women, characterized by aversion to food and obsession with weight loss, and manifested in self-induced starvation and excessive exercise, etc.

A lot of people think that being thin is extremely important.

It's not.

"Is 'fat' really the worst thing a human being can be? Is 'fat' worse than 'vindictive', 'jealous', 'shallow', 'vain', 'boring' or 'cruel'? Not to me."

— J.K. Rowling

It happened a few years ago, but I still remember it vividly, like it was yesterday.

A girl was criticizing this girl in her class for being overweight. What she said was immensely cruel, and so judgemental.. the worst thing was that she didn't even realise the severity of what she said.

Later on, I got to know the same poor girl she was talking about. She is actually an extremely lovely person. She's a million times nicer than me. I felt so bad, there and then, that she got judged so viciously just because of her weight. And i felt that wasn't fair. I felt sick, because I knew it would continue when she got older and got a job, got new friends..

So what if I'm thin? It doesn't make me a better person than she is in any way.

So what if you're thin? It doesn't change a thing.

So if that guy you like cannot accept your weight, he's not worth it.

So if that girl you like tells you you need a six pack, she's not worth it either.

So if they don't want to be friends because they sneer at your weight, you don't need them.

So if everyone looks down on you automatically because of your size, they're the ones losing out on getting to know a wonderful person.

And it's not that easy being extremely thin either.

No, not all thin people starve themselves. We eat, alright? It's not that fun being thin. People call us anorexic wherever we go. If we're not hungry, it's always 'You're not eating? Anorexic." or "No wonder you're so thin."

So underweight people don't have the freedom to not eat, and overweight people don't have the freedom to eat.

January 14, 2011.

I missed one day yesterday. :(

This.. isn't a spectacular photo. But I just want to send out the message.

Stop stereotyping.

We do it automatically. Many of us can't help it. We look at somebody and we automatically classify them in a specific category. Our innate, first impression prejudice immediately acts a barrier between getting to know the real person inside. And that's where you're missing out.

You can look at a person whichever way you want. You can choose to forget their existence, accept them into your close circle, create an enemy out of them, or watch them from afar wishing you were them.

But just remember, when you stereotype..

You are being stereotyped at the same time.

And do you really want someone else to misunderstand you at first glance without even knowing you or speaking a word to you? Wouldn't it be so ironic if you lost a chance to gain a friend, just because you classified them as someone 'different'. Appearances aren't everything.

Stereotypes need to be discarded. - Pat Conroy

EDIT~~~ This has gotten over 10, 000 views, and i wanted to bump it up and say thanks for all the comments and the views, and lets hope out of the almost 11,000 views, at least one person got some useful helpful information and maybe just maybe iot helped save someone.

I wanted these to be seen, especially this one. I didn't get any further than here with them, but almost 11,000 views is pretty good i think.

So yeah, again, thanks!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programing. I figured it was ok to bump this in front of today's 365 shot because it sucks so bad. LOL!

*** please please read the statistics i included. They are heart breaking, scary, and have me in tears right now......

Today's disorder is a very broad termed one. I am trying to go alphabetically an the only thing other than "eating disorder" that began with "e" involved feces and urine, so i stayed away from those.

Plus i think eating disorders are a serious serious issue that should be made aware.

Let me touch on the actual picture for a moment. i am well aware that my body looks totally deformed and ab normal... i did that with the intention of portraying how people with eating disorders usually view themselves. A deformed and distorted view of reality.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An eating disorder is characterized by abnormal eating habits that may involve either insufficient or excessive food intake to the detriment of an individuals physical and emotional health. The causes of eating disorders are complex and not yet fully understood. Eating disorders are estimated to affect 5-10 million females and 1 million males in the United States.[1] Although not yet classified as separate disorder, binge eating disorder[2] is the most common eating disorder in the United States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males according to a study by Harvard affiliated McLean Hospital. Bulimia nervosa was the second most common followed by Anorexia nervosa.[3]
who decided skinny was beautiful?
i hate how anorexic has become a judgemental term. instead of looking down upon those who suffer from anorexia, help them. beauty is not defined by your weight.
(i have edited my body significantly)
(i had a snow day today,)
i've recently made a photography website, if you have time please take a look:
www.wix.com/kelianne/photography
This edit was inspired by the BEAUTIIFUUUUUUUUUULLLLLL and breath taking artist Miss.Aniela♥♥♥♥!! who made me happy as a child when she added me to her contact list two weeks ago!
She is utterly just a great female photographer and suuuuuch an inspiration to me and so many of my favorite flickrfriends.
She has inspired me so much with my (can I call it: HALF)"nude" photography. And is not afraid of what people might think. Such a strong and amazing individual.
AND of couuuurse, she does the BEST cloning flickr have ever seen:) ♥♥♥♥ OF COURSE.
---------------------------------------------------
Over to the title.
I always hear people saying to be when I'm down; "A young girl like you can't be sad!!"
And it just made me think.
Young isn't a thesaurus for happy.
Do you think any of these people are happy?!
we live in a crazy world.
--------------------------------
I just needed to feel it was ok being sad sometimes.
She looks so innocent, doesn't she? We at Paparazzi applaud Aurora for responding to US Weekly's editorial,"Aurora Jasper: In Love with Herself Cause She Can't Find a Man?" in such a peaceful, not-like-her way. Why not be happy with yourself? It's refreshing to find a celeb who's currently not anorexic, on drugs, an alcoholic, or plastic surgery-obsessed. (okay, Jasper's had a nose job-- so what?)
www.ryleerider.proboards83.com/?board=meetthecelebritysim...
Research suggests that about one percent (1%) of female adolescents have anorexia. That means that about one out of every one hundred young women between ten and twenty are starving themselves, sometimes to death.
Again, I'm not anorexic. Or bulimic.
But I'm sure that most girls at some point in their life feel this way. I've been struggling with poor self image since I was about 8 or 9. =/
I'm glad I can be happy with a photo if I can't be happy with myself though, because I actually like this.
Anyway today was pretty fun. Max and I walked down to Hawthorne and I bought an American Apparel sweatshirt (purple :D) finally! Also a killer C3PO shirt and brown skinny chords.
Oh and btw the only light here is the refrigerator, and a little bit (but not much) natural window light.
Today is my last day with braces! :D :D
EDIT: I replaced the photo with the one in the comment. :) I think I do like it better.
Oh and Explored #225.
(old-ish)
+++ <--- must again.
by the way.
I am not anorexic or anything, I've always been a stick (except when I was a baby ;)). It's basically just how I am.
I used to hate how skinny my ankles and wrists are, and photography, among other things, has basically gotten rid of that.
Whether your wrists are my size, or 3 times as thick, or just "normal," you are beautiful, and you're the way God made you. don't ever forget that.
Oliviero Toscani exhibition - Miradolo Castle - San Secondo di Pinerolo
For months the nurseryman's discounted shrub
languished
in anorexic solitude
a spindly, leperous dwarf
beside the south wall's flowering perennials
but overnight and who knows why, has burst
into haute couture: lavender puffs, with orchid pink
ruff, abuzz
with a bevy of twirring
courtiers, all thieves,
who sniff and probe and unabashedly pluck their fill,
then flit flit like paparrazzi to the next dahlia's lame'
honeycup, to lip her bristles: the Queen's airmen,
lacewings,
yellow nymphs and swallowtail,
fluttery from each sweet daiquiri
and sticky kiss, no emperor in sight, just this mob
of fans and wind milling satyrs making whoopee, bud hopping,
the bush deliriously animate like an open air disco.
How the air hums, fritillarily
profuse with migrants
and monarchs laboring lightly at day labor.
Neighboring long stems
seem to wilt at the viceroy's passes; petals
seem shuttered, their buttermilk complexions pale
by comparison.
What to make of this suburban orgy?
By 9 a.m. the bumblers seem drowsy
or drunk on shrub nectar; she is pheromone free. But--
even the admirals bury their tongues in her bloomers.
Please be advised that when I do my commentaries it’s because of my passion for dolls and my love for my favorite brands especially Integrity Toys. I think everything they do is amazing and I am a 100% in full support of the company. So whether my critique is good or bad it all comes from a place of love. I just want the best and expect the best from them.
As promised here are shots of the new Monarchs body comparing it to the older FR:Homme body. I’ve also included Mattel’s Harley Ken articulated body because this is one of the male bodies that I like and it will make sense once you read through this commentary on why I included it. Note that I will be talking about body parts here. So if you’re not comfortable reading about naughty bits I advise you to leave and go back to your feed. So here we go…
1. You can see here the Monarchs body is the tallest one. But here you will realize that although the body appears to be skinny its frame is not that different from FR:Homme. Even with a smaller waist there’s not much of a drastic change in proportion which means they can still share fashions. One of the reasons why it looks skinny is because the upper thighs are thinned out. I believe the reason why they did that so the Monarchs can wear slimmer fit trousers and have that slim fit look that wasn’t really possible for FR:Homme due to the their thighs being thicker. Even with the tightest pants they still look bulky. The prototypes that were presented at the Luxe Life Convention shows how the Monarchs body looks good clothed and how it looks good in slim fit pants. But my thought is why do we have to compromise the aesthetic of the body just so they can look good clothed and why can’t they meet in the middle?
2. Here you can see FR:Homme and the Monarchs body in a different angle. You will see the difference in their muscle definition. Boy they really went ham on sculpting the muscles of the Monarchs body, didn’t they? The Monarchs chest is probably the best part of the body but even that I feel there’s more work that needs to be done with the sculpt. From the Menswear event presentation they showed inspirations of the Monarchs body and I recalled them to be slim, in fact skinny bodies with no defined muscles. You would think that for a slimmer look they would tone down the muscles of the Monarchs body but they made it even more exaggerated. They’ve added definitions of the rib cage and hip bones which would make sense for a skinny person but if you do your personal research *wink* we don’t really see those bones protruding for a body this muscly. This anorexic look in all honesty isn’t the direction that I picture the new male body would be headed to. It feels like they referred too much of the current FR/NU.Face sculpts so they look cohesive and this is the outcome. The definition of the rib cage and hip bones work for the female bodies but for the males it really doesn’t. Why don’t we trade those hip bones for v-lines instead? I’ve noticed even with male dolls made by different companies we really rarely see them. Yes they are too sexy but you know what, if they can add an outline of the penis they can certainly add those v-lines. Why not? These figures are for adults might as well go there. Everyone should refer to those male Numina dolls. They have the best body sculpts I’ve seen so far.
3. Let’s take a closer look at the torsos. The Monarchs’ clavicle is more anatomically accurate compared to FR:Homme and that’s what I actually love about Integrity Toy’s current bodies is that they all have that similar style. One other thing that makes the Monarchs body look skinny is that there’s too much gap between the chest and the arms when they’re on the resting position and I think it was done that way to accommodate the stand support that goes under their arms. With that being said I still would like for the arms to be closer just a tiny bit. The chest actually looks great in this angle but those areolas really need to calm down. They’re a bit too round and too big that they’re competing with the females. I also prefer them to be more oval shaped like what most men have. As for the lower torso I’m still in favor of FR:Homme’s as the abdominal muscles are more human accurate. The subtleties of those muscle definitions are much more appealing. The Monarch’s abdominal muscles fill up the space of the lower torso which makes them seem to look out of proportion. They are just sculpted way too big!
As for the bulge, Monarchs’ is more defined. They even added a scrotum which to me doesn’t really matter if it’s there or not. I do have to say it’s more prominent compared to FR:Homme’s with a boxer briefs on. Now for the thighs, just like FR/NU.Face’s they are square-ish which seems to be a style that is consistent throughout Integrity Toys’ current bodies. I feel that it’s not a bad idea to have that uniformity but these sculpts really do not have to be bland especially on a male body. The thighs on this Monarchs body could use some muscle definition and still retain that square-ish look that the IT designers prefer even though let’s face it no one really likes these square-ish thighs. But I digress. Now based on the feedback we’ve heard a lot of people pointing out the thigh gap and how bad it is. I do agree. The thighs are too far apart and the groin areas are carved too deep that it doesn’t really help with the situation. While the deep groin works well on the females somehow it doesn’t for the males. I really think there’s a better way to execute that by bringing in the carved out groin closer to the scrotum and giving more mass to the inner thighs that way it will fill up the space around that area. They just have to find a way to retain the slim look of the thighs once they do so. I have to say Mattel did better with their Harley Ken body. I like that the hips are narrow and yet there’s still a hint of muscle on the thighs.
4. Prior to the Luxe Life Convention, the registration packet explained that this is going to be an all-new body sculpt so that includes new feet and hand sculpts. While I like FR:Homme’s feet sculpt I also like Monarchs’. I have to say these are the parts of the body that are sculpted really well. They are on-point. However the ankle joints are not as tight as FR:Homme's. It was a struggle for Declan to stand on his own while Tobias did great without any support. That's something they need to look into as well.
5. With the Monarchs hands they decided to tone down the details of the sculpts so they’re not as wrinkly as FR:Homme’s which I actually like because it works on this scale. If they were in 16” scale or taller then I prefer more details added to the sculpts. They also trimmed the nails on these hands by the way which I think looks better. While Undercover Declan did not come with extra hands he has a left hand that can properly hold a bag which surprisingly hasn’t been done in the past. Although we had FR:Homme hand sculpts that were meant to hold accessories they still need to be aided by rubber bands so the accessories won’t fall off. The new Monarchs hand gets a good grip of the handles so the accessory stays on securely.
6. Is it just me or are the Monarchs’ arms freakishly long? The skinny look of the arms might have contributed to that. I think one thing that puts me off with these arms is that they have an hour glass shape to them as they taper at the elbows. The elbow joints need to be sculpted wider. Therefore the upper arms need to be sculpted similar to FR:Homme to accommodate a wider elbow joint. Just picture it and you’ll see what I mean. The arms have to be thicker at the biceps as it tapers to the wrists to make it look right. Not thick on the biceps, then thin on the elbows, thick on the upper arms then thin again on the wrists. It’s a no for me.
7. I wanted to compare the Monarchs body to another male body with better arm sculpts and the best example I’ve seen are from the Harley Ken body. Both FR:Homme and Monarchs have these bulgy lower arms that aren’t really anatomically correct and hinders a bit of movement. You can see with Harley Ken the inside part of the elbow or what they call Cubital Fossa (I had to look it up) has an indentation I would like for the Monarchs to follow. These definitely look better. Again another extra point for Mattel on this one.
8. What in the Kardashian booty is going on??? I’m sorry you guys but The Monarchs butt look whack. If they were going for a bubble butt then this isn’t it. I don’t mean to be rude but they look like they have implants. Here it is comparing it to FR:Homme.
9. Let’s turn the other cheek. You can see the square-ishness of that bum in this shot. Had they referred to FR:Homme’s butt and made it a bit bigger then it would have worked. You guys these aren’t cute.
10. And the best back side award goes to Harley Ken! You can see those subtle definitions on his back. The dimples and the ripples above his butt are definitely well-done. It’s simple. It’s effective. It’s beautiful. Take note Integrity Toys. Key word is subtlety.
11. Let’s take a good hard look at Harley Ken’s butt. They’re compact. They’re cute. They’re tight. It looks like Monarchs was going for that compact look like it was pinched together but ultimately failed. Harley Ken wins yet again.
12. Let’s take one last look at Monarchs’ back side. It’s overdone. It’s bordering on action-figure. The muscle definitions aren’t accurate. There are v-shaped details on his lower back that I don’t understand. The thing with the Monarchs body is that it had a big room for improvement in the almost six years that it was being developed. We waited so long for this and this is the outcome. Arguably Fashion Royalty and NU.Face are the best female doll bodies in the industry right now and somehow that didn’t pan out too well with The Monarchs. Unfortunately it was met with a lukewarm reception. Perhaps it’s back to the drawing board with this body you guys. Love you.
Photoshopped, because I'm not actually anorexic bro. I hate seeing people like this though, scared to drink a glass of water :/
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by refusal to maintain a healthy body weight, and an obsessive fear of gaining weight due to a distorted self image which may be maintained by various cognitive biases that alter how the affected individual evaluates and thinks about their body, food and eating. AN is a serious mental illness with a high incidence of comorbidity and also the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder.
No, i'm not Anorexic. But pretty damned close. I do have a fear of gaining weight, but not severe enough to make me lose anymore. Like i mentioned in an earlier photo, i have a phobia of food, because of childhood illnesses. Though i'm much better than i was, thankfully.
I thought the concept of this photo was cool, because most anorexia photo have a tape measure wrapped around the body. So i thought 'Why not the throat?' this photo could represent being 'strangled' by Anorexia, but since I am pulling the tape measure, I am strangling myself. Killing myself. Only hypothetically, of course.
Mum saw this photo and told me to go eat cake. I do eat cake. I love cake :D this is called breathing in! duhh.
Can you guys favourite this please? would be much appreciated (:
Going to be posting all parts of this set today, because I haven't been uploading frequently enough.
"A couple of weeks ago somebody asked me if I eat... They asked me this as if I was anorexic or attempting to starve myself. I smiled slightly and told them "yes." Just because I have a smaller waistline than some people does not mean I am anorexic. That makes me, me."
Self Portrait.
When we say we look to find equality in our world, our society, how do we really go about it? Do we go to a picture of a curvy woman and say “she is absolutely stunning”, or do we say “that’s what a real body looks like”? Do we go to a picture of a skinny woman and say “she is absolutely stunning” or do we say “what a sexy body”? When we say these things, directed towards making one type of person feel confident instead of the actual person in the picture, what else are we creating?
I’m here to share with you what it’s like to be a girl who is constantly battling to gain weight, and understands what it is to feel judged every day by society for being “too small”. This starts with multimedia and how it depicts what is the most beautiful vs. the ugliest and how people, like you and myself, respond with our personal opinions. I personally see curvy women to be the most beautiful of body types, as everything about a curvy woman looks perfect in my eyes. Some people would agree, and some people would disagree - everyone is wired to see beauty in their own unique perspective. That being said, I love all women and think all women are beautiful - no matter how they look. We are compared to shapes such as the hour-glass, rectangle, triangle - it doesn’t matter what shape you have I think you are beautiful. The question is, when it comes down to us appreciating one body type, or speaking up for them, are we all fighting for equality in the views of all women’s bodies, or are we comparing to make one body look better over the other? When I hear about women who are insecure about being bigger, it breaks my heart. Like I said, in my eyes, they are perfect, and for them to see themselves any other way is hard for me to understand. Just as it would be for them to understand what it’s like to be in my shoes. But when I read the comments that are posted to boost the confidence in these women, it becomes incredibly easy to see where their insecurity comes from. Not because the comments are made to bash these women, but because they are made to bash women of the opposite stature:
Ask Men Posted: “Forget the skeletal, sickly girls who pass as fashion models these days. A true man knows that real beauty isn’t found in a size zero. A growing number of plus-size models are redefining what society considers beautiful, and the heroin addict-looking supermodels of today could soon find their jobs in jeopardy.” - Miles Harvey.
I don’t know about you, but I believe all women - whether they look as sickly as I do no matter what I do to try to gain weight, have an “average” body weight/shape, or are curvy and large, are just bigger without the curves, are boxy and anorexic looking, workout every day, never worked out a day in their lives, have tiny hips and large breasts/vise versa - all women should know that they are beautiful in the bodies that they have and should never feel the need to change for anyone but themselves. But this isn’t the case. In our fight for equality, we bash one side over the other in order to feel better about our preferences. To make our family or friends feel better about their size/lack thereof, and let them know that they are beautiful no matter what. This shouldn’t apply to one body, or two, or three. There are billions of women in this world and we are not made the same, so why should multimedia say that skinny is sexy? That being big or curvy is sexy? That any one thing is what should be depicted for the world to see because it is the “best” or “most beautiful”.
To any man or woman who has struggled with their weight/shape/appearance in any way or form, I would love to capture you and your story free of charge to help bring awareness of all issues regarding confidence and body types. *Must be in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia*
Not really. That's not me. I often refer to myself as a bald headed fat man. I remember when I was a strapping sailor with a head of dreams and the moves of Fred Astaire. I knew an old Chief who shaved his head. I asked him why. "You young snots don't want to get your ass whipped by a bald headed fat man," he replied.
There was truth in that. The I am Beautiful Project was a tough one for me. Bald headed fat men are supposed to quietly accept who they are and not whine like anorexic school girls. But yeah, we have body image issues too,
thanks to Chad for giving me the incentive to do this.
A second shot of last Bank Holiday Monday's 6M60 taken at Parton.
I chased it from Great Corby as there was a slim possibility of sun on the coast.
As can be seen "slim" had become "anorexic".
I wasn't going to upload it but it's been a quiet day.
Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Den Haag, Energiekwartier, Electriciteitsfebriek, Chistiaaan Zwanikken exhibition, Who let the dogs out, Staff, Visitors (uncut)
Christiaan Zwanikken is all about forced hybridization, mythical story telling and interaction. In his kinetic sculptures and installations he combines high tech electronic technology and lo-tech mechanical parts (often salvaged from scrapyards) with plants and body elements of animals (skulls, wings etc). Of course vapour and steam are used too.
The stories he tells are about spooking an innocent drumming Duracell rabbit, head banging anorexic cyborgs with goat’s skulls, a mechanical donkey on a tread mill and motorized, internally lit, racing skulls on dangerously bending thin metal tracks ('Who let the dogs out').
The installation shown here is 'Who let the dogs out".
On the right is a staff member while repairing one of the mechanical dogs ("He took a bad hit but can be fixed" he explained). The staff of the Electriciteitsfebriek is not only friendely and talkative. And do know their way around technology.
For work like Zwanikken’s, context is very important. Luckily it isn’t exhibited within the sterile white walls of a museum but in a delightfully gritty cathedral like multi level industrial building: the Electriciteitsfabriek (EF) (the Electricity factory). Some of the works were even crafted here. It’s the giant former storage facility (1928) of the The Hague municipal power station, from the time when it was still coal fired. The power station itself is still in operation, nowadays it’s gas-turbine based.
The Zwanikken exhibition is really an engaging must visit. The exhibition closes on April 30, so hurry. Check it out: here.
A couple of kettles up my way-ish on Sunday. Wife was at work so I thought I'd do 'em, despite the dire forecast. There was a slim, virtually anorexic chance of sun according to the Met' Office but it certainly wasn't evident at Lazonby where I'd planned to do the outbound "Waverley".
I was a bit early doors so had the opportunity to do the 1Q17 Derby RTC to Heaton test train as well as have a long overdue catch up with Simon Kerry. 43290 leads 43299.
