Cinnamon Teal Drake
Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge
Washington State
This handsome drake is wearing an ankle bracelet. I have a few different angles on him so hopefully I can decipher the numbers on his band and report sighting him.
So we had to document KiraKira's tragedy today... She and her friends have decided to have a masquerade ball lately and were working hard for preparations every day. In the end, the big day came, but... KiraKira twisted her ankle just when she was all dressed, decorated and ready to leave home! The ball was cancelled (since the girls would not have fun in her absence), but she really was in the mood and even insisted that we bandage her ankle with lace!
She cutely accepted an unexpected surprise of life with calm. Teach me how to do it, too, KiraKira! So we are definitely going to have the party some other day ^_^
(Adorable dress by Louella. KiraKira borrowed the corset from Ruby, my circus girl)
Male Snow Bunting.
The Snow Bunting is a tough survivor that breeds on frozen tundra in sub-zero temperatures. It's also the most northerly recorded passerine in the world.
Snow Buntings have feathering on their ankles, an adaptation providing added warmth on the high Arctic tundra of North America, Europe, and Russia.
This one is part of a small migrant flock on the North Norfolk coast. Only a handful breed in the UK (in the Cairngorns) but as many as 15,000 spend the winter here - almost exclusively on the coast.
Taken in Norfolk.

I broke my ankle this weekend. If you're interested in what happened, I have written the story on my blog:
Glossy Ibis - In The Wild - Winter '20-'21
Green Cay Wetlands - Jan. 19th, 2021
South Florida - Palm Beach County, FL
*[left-double-click for a closer-look - feather iridescence!]
*[catch them just right and their feathers are Gloriously Glossy!]
Their plumage appears dark, almost blackish, at a distance or in
poor light. At close range, much of the body is maroon, with the wing coverts showing metallic green, bronze, and violet tones. Glossy Ibises frequent almost any wetland environment with shallow water or exposed mud and also readily feeds in farm fields or open areas where soils are moist. - Sheen is amazing! Fun to observe.

I twisted this trying to ollie over a the flat of a driveway. Buggered up the landing and rolled my ankle, when I got home Brian took this big of my big ass ankle. Shortly after this was taken I found out I couldn't actually walk... It wasn't that bad really but doesn't my spartan leg hair look weird thanks to the flash?
These pants cling to limbs. Zipped at the ankles and the backside to make the wearer feel restrained.
If you're a bird. That's pretty much all we got south of Atlanta. A layer of sleet though. 40F temperature now, but I'm glad it's Saturday and not so many people have to go to work.

she had walked in one day because sha had seen the Rosy Nude through the plate glass.
that was odd, she thought, to have that lavish and complex creature stretched voluptuously above the cowt rack, where one might have expected the stare, silver and supercilious or jetty and frenzied,of the model girl....

A very warm and sunny day in Maui, Hawaii came to an end rewarding me with a beautiful and cloudy sunset by the beach. As always, the beach was full of people trying to capture the magic of this moment. One particular person caught my eye as he grabbed his camera, went ankle deep into the ocean and stayed there almost 20 minutes taking shots. Looking at him from behind with that colorful sky at the background, it really felt like he was the only person on the island, a castaway from a shipwreck capturing his glorious loneliness ..
I am at JMU currently with my son on “move in/orientation day” for this semester and I am “supposed” to be at the parent orientation presentations, BUT, when I woke up this morning my one ankle was raging in pain due to Achilles Tendonitis which made sitting in cramp auditorium seats painful. So I found some comfy seats in the next building and as I was kicked back relaxing I saw these incredible clouds float in front of me in the huge window. So I took out the best camera I have (..at the time my iPhone LOL!) and grabbed a couple of shots.

In late summer, coastal brown bears spend some of their time fishing for salmon. The fish provide a high calorie source of nutrition that helps to fatten them up before a long winter’s sleep. Bears learn early that you just can’t fish anytime or anywhere. When salmon enter fresh water estuaries and rivers their escape routes are limited. When tides are running deep, the fish can slip away into deeper waters. Bears can cause lots of splashing and expend lots of energy but come up empty handed. They learn that low tides, when estuaries are sometimes no more than ankle deep, are the best times for them to fish. The ability to fish is not innate. These animals practice the skill, learned from their mothers, and some champion the skill better than others. #CoastalBrownBears
