(2016) Le Rêve 3D

This is a tribute to the famous Spanish Cubism artist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) and his Fauvism painting Le Rêve (the Dream, 1932), portraying his then 22-year-old mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter (1909-1977).

Realized the organic feminine form in 3D out of abstract 2D shapes, I attempted to add life with a subtle breathing animation, and let her dreams a starry night, away from erotic / phallic fantasies.

After much discussion over the last few days about this image from the National Library of Ireland the location and estimated date of the shot are now confirmed.

This animated version is intended to simulate the 3D effect, but in truth this one doesn't work exceptionally well. Even through a stereoviewer the effect is very subtle. Note from the shadows that this was two images taken a short while apart, the photographer clearly not having a twin-lens stereo camera but instead opting to move the camera between shots.
