some packages I've designed for a local animalfood-producer. Now it was time for some new product images.
The background is a largeformat print. The light-setup:
a bounced flash from behind under the quick assembled arc over the scene and a direct flash from front left.
Very poppy and colorful... for kids and little rodents. The customer liked it, the customer is king :o)

Chickens and poultry love to eat dried mealworms, which are rich in protein, fat, minerals, vitamins and amino acids. Protein is an essential part of a chicken’s diet. This collection of pine cones and parts of pine cones was located at the base of a pine tree. I was tipped off by the squirrels' noisy chatter as I passed through "their territory".
Since 2013, India's Animal Welfare Board has advocated for policy change that would phase out battery cages in the country's poultry industry. A 2019 draft of India's Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules proposed prohibiting battery cages, banning growth enhancers, restricting antibiotic use in feed, and banning forced molting through feed withdrawal. The draft renamed battery cages to "colony enclosures" allowing 550 sq cm per bird—a change opposed by animal advocates. While these guidelines were initially set for January 2025 implementation, a 2023 report indicates that farms are not required to make these changes until 2029.
At this egg production farm, approximately 8,000 hens live three to five hens per battery cage inside a poorly ventilated shed. Many hens show signs of severe neglect, including missing feathers, raw and bleeding skin, hardened skin rashes, prolapsed cloacas and deformed claws. When egg production declines, the farm "recycles" hens by withdrawing feed for two weeks, providing only water and small stones to induce rapid weight loss. After reintroducing feed, hens lay eggs for another three to six months before slaughter. This ground-level facility allows waste to accumulate in a closed space, creating strong odors and air thick with dust and feathers. Dead and dying hens were observed discarded in corners of the shed.
Despite the proposed policy changes, as of 2024, an estimated 400 million hens in India still spend their lives confined in stacks of battery cages, with farms typically housing between 8,000 and 18,000 birds—and some containing up to 100,000 hens.
This visual was contributed to the 'The Real Cost of Eggs,' the world's largest investigation into industrialized egg farms, spanning 37 countries across six continents. This unprecedented investigation was led by The Humane League and the Open Wing Alliance in 2025, in close partnership with Reporters for Animals International and We Animals, and made possible by investigators around the globe. These organizations and individuals are working to expose the hidden lives of hens inside battery cage egg facilities worldwide.
