A Ukrainian angler, in a tent for protection from the wind and cold, fishes through an ice hole on the Dnipro river outside Cherkasy, central Ukraine. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. The death toll from a severe cold spell in Eastern Europe rose to 71 Wednesday, most of them homeless people. Temperatures dropped to minus 30 C (minus 22 F) in some regions, causing power outages and traffic chaos and prompting authorities to close schools and nurseries. (AP Photo/Efrem Lukatsky)

Anglers casting their lines for trouts fishing at the Blausee lake.

On a 'sugared' post.

Every 'mother' has a recipe for sugaring. Stout beer is a main ingredient together with molasses and other goodies all boiled up and then painted onto fence posts to attract the quarry.

The posts were sugared before dark, and then checked later allowing several people to enjoy and photograph the diners

You may notice his proboscis, lapping up the 'nectar'

Please don't view large, it's laughably soft. Crap!

I am not an expert in architecture. I do, however, enjoy the aesthetic of many buildings. So I would be an architect fan. I love interesting angles and uses of space. That is why this building in Atlanta caught my eye. I love the windows and angles of the overall building. I also really love the way it sits in the trees. So, of course, I had to grab a capture.

Bloody Angle, Crowded Ravine

Fighting at the Muleshoe Salient focused on a slight turn in the Confederate earthworks, to your right-front, known as the “Bloody Angle.” The Angle occupied a small knoll that commanded adjacent parts of the Confederate line. Whoever controlled the knoll controlled the Salient. For 22 hours Union and Confederate soldiers vied for possession of the Angle, firing across the works or engaging one another in grim, hand-to-hand combat.

During the battle Union soldiers took cover in the ravine in front of you. Time and again they rushed forward to attack the Angle, only to be beaten back. With each repulse they left the ground between the ravine and the Angle strewn with hundreds of wounded and dying men. Bodies piled up three, four, even five deep, forming what one man described as “a perfect rampart of [the] dead….” By day’s end, up to 17,000 men were killed, wounded, or captured, most within sight of where you are now standing.

The hill dropped abruptly to a branch a short ways in front of the breastworks. The Yanks could come up behind the hill and have a short distance to charge in the open. They massed under the protection of the hill and made a rush at us over their own dead and wounded.

Angler an der Côte d `Azur

I took these to see how she looked in different angles, IMO she's very photogenic. I do think I need to work on her eyewells though. Hmm. Anyway, I gave her a silly watercolour faceup just so she wasn't blank, because she's so pretty.

Mr and Mrs J R Wood of Ellenton built The Angler's Lodge in 1913. Mr Wood was a vegetable broker and owned several packing houses and farms. He subsequently become the Mayor of Ellenton. The family used to travel from Ellenton by steamship to enjoy days on Anna Maria, and they named the house 'Thelma by the Sea', after their daughter. Thelma was a beautiful young woman and modeled for many publications, including the first ever tourism brochure for Anna Maria Island.

The house was saved when it was moved a short distance away on May 22-23,2011.
