In the shadow of Lancaster Castle stand these old houses. The lintel on this pair is engraved with 1739. What is especially interesting is how low these doors are when compared to the houses nearby, whcih are much taller. These were most likely occupied by 'working people' (as our political masters are prone to say these days), or artisans (as I would prefer to describe them). They would not have had anything like as much protein in their diets as the welathy, and would thus be much shorter. Either that, or there was a wood shortage that year.
Ephemeral beauty.
Would someone remind the world's political so-called leaders that this is the 21st century. We spent the last one mired in industrialized warfare when we killed and maimed our best and most beautiful. None of us is here for very long and most people just want to get on with their lives in peace. Power politics and willy waving are constructs created by narcissists and the greedy.
Just stop the killing. Now. Please.

My theory is that setts look best when they are wet.
After cooking class I went to an interesting lecture on set theory. I was doing OK until we got to Russell's Paradox, and I began to feel a bit woozy. Was it the codeine? Or maybe it was being reminded of something from long ago.
I went for a walk in Williamson Park and must have fallen through a wormhole; I found myself deep in the bush again. What joy!
On the way to cooking class I saw this high wall. It made me think of Kaffe Fassett and his amazing fabric designs.
