Come September i shall return to harvest sloes from these jaw thorn bushes. They flavor gin wonderfully and if there are enough i will make some jam, too.

The sounds of the birds, trolling and war bling overhead, was so beautiful. When there are no predators nearby they go into full throated singing mode.

A Victorian wall box. Graffiti applied while paint still fresh. A pity really. It's not even interesting.

My Monday gig involves making tea and coffee. My customers (except one) prefer a beaker, or mug, as I would call it. This is just part of the eclectic assortment; and don't forget who has the bone china mugs, or the stoneware!

"Mugged off" is a fairly old English expression that means to treat someone like a fool (or badly). "Some melt tried to mug me off the other day, so I had to give him some schooling."

I love language!

The pods will dry and the seeds burst everywhere. Ready for next spring.

Hawthorn berries are full of vitamin C, slightly tart with a flavor redolent of apples. Maybe I'll make a syrup.

A triangulation point, or trig point, consists of a concrete or stone pillar, typically around 1.2 meters high, with a brass plate on top. This plate, often called a "spider," has three arms and a central depression for mounting a surveying instrument like a theodolite. There should be a plug in the middle, to prevent ingress of dirt and water that could interfere with the theodolite - this one is missing (probably taken as a souvenir).

Messing around with subjects and settings and ended up with this.

This old photographic shop has closed. Preston or Kendal are the closest places to go for supplies. or take a punt online. The modern way of business I guess.

My replacement coffee machine has bigger baskets than my old one. My old tamper has been rattling in the drawer for a while. What to do? I can't stand waste.

Meet my new garlic press 😅

A mixture of chicken and vegetable stocks added and brought to the boil for a couple minutes.

The former main post office at Blackpool. It was sold to a developer who is supposed to be turning it into an hotel. It has stood like this for several years,

This is not the prettiest thing I have shown you, but it is one of the tastiest. Slow-cooked overnight, I placed the vegetables as the bottom of the pot and the lamb at the top, and finished wit some sprigs of fresh rosemary.

Salt marsh lamb (l'agneau pré-salé) is in season from around July to November. It's special because the pasture where these sheep graze is covered by the tide twice a day; it doesn't make the meat taste salty, but the grasses and samphire on which they graze makes for a sweet, light and fragrant meat. There is noticeably less fat to this meat or remaining in the jus!

This lamb came from a farm on the Lune Estuary which is a short cycle ride from here.

Next time I will get a Lamb Henry (? I hear you say) and see if I can make a more attractive presentation!

mainly in Lancaster, it appears.

Tea today was broccoli, French beans, both on discount, with a tomato, in a light cheese sauce. Throw in an egg in the last couple minutes to bind a bit and provide some more protein. In the wok for 10 minutes all up. Finish with lemon juice and black pepper.

Quick, easy, and cheap.

Cook like a student and eat like a king.

The butterfly is one of the symbols for ADHD. Like many people with ADHD, I wonder if she is wondering what she is meant to be doing next. It is often a feeling that is so overwhelming that one ends up doing nothing at all.

This morning's kitchen. Happy days!

Do you get migraines or support someone who does? This is worth reading. Personally, changing lifestyle reduced their frequency, but migraines still happen. It's not drama, it's genetic.

Chelsea tractor in pink made me smile.

The paintwork is quite lustrous up close.

Along from the church cum pub that's for sale we arrive at this dis used relic from 1887. I like the look of it but it needs a bit more tlc than i can muster.

A room without plants is a dead space to me. So getting this pelargonium to do anything other than keel over has been a great satisfaction. The flowers just appeared overnight.

Re-potting all my plants a fortnight ago seems to be what they all wanted. The echevaria has done so well it produced 6 pups, which are now in troughs.

I don't have a garden and window-boxes appear to be verboten, so this will have to do.

It's a policy that makes a lot of sense. If you buy everything online, don't be surprised to find an empty high street.

Add a load of stock and bring to boil for a few minutes, then simmer for 30 more. I used an immersion blender to break up the kale. A slack handful of salt was needed and I brightened it with a good glug of vinegar. More richness and protein from a tub of Greek yogurt to finish.
