Looking at boats and throwing shapes is tiring, however pleasant. So i restore myself with a little sustenance. This is tea cake and rum butter.
FYI run and brandy butter came about in the distant past as a ruse used by smugglers to bring these spirits ashore. It's lasted the test of time 👍
The bench marks that i have seen on other kerb stones were the other way around - point towards the road way. This one seems to be an exception. The reason is a mystery. For now.
Funny how things bring back memories. While laying a field telephone line once, I had to join another reel. I stupidly stripped the insulation with my teeth, just as someone decided to try and make a call. That certainly made my fillings tingle.
Originating in the Himalayas, Luculia gratissima can be found in many Commonwealth countries. This example was in New Zealand. Pretty, eh.
Lancaster Castle is old. It's been a fortress, a prison, a court, execution site, and now tourist attraction. There's a pretty good cafe, too 😄

'Spem in alium' by Thomas Tallis, written in 1570.

I arrived at work today - a different place from normal - and these were waiting. The flowers come from a lady's garden, and she likes to make table decorations and other arrangements just for fun. I think it's a wonderful expression of joy.
Buddleia removed from the stonework; roof replaced; other major work ongoing. I don't know what this church will be used for, but as a religious building is unlikely. It's fine, large open space inside.
1958 edition. Found today. Written when she was 18. First read when i was 15. Looking forward to re-reading. Will i laugh or cry?
This pillar box was painted gold to celebrate Andy Murray's tennis performance at the 2012 Olympics.
This glass-filled grating covers somebody's cellar. It keeps the weather and people out, but allows the light to flow in.
The Rights of Light Act 1959 is a legal easement, which gives a property owner the right to enjoy the light passing over someone else's land and through their own 'defined apertures' (windows). The law goes back to the Ancient Lights Law under the rule of William IV, which was superseded by the 1832 Prescription Act.
3 o'clock came and I was in need of a coffee. By chance I found myself here, on the Lytham Road in Blackpool. The place is wonderful and quirky, the owner is very friendly and kind, and the coffee was off the scale. If you are in Blackpool and need a decent, unpretentious brew, this is the place to go.
