A full week of travel with lots of time looking for birds. And one of the visits included an old temple where some domestic animals are sacrificed. The place has a huge variety of uncommon species, but the day I visited activity was dull and I plan to go an other day. On the return I found this Jungle Owlet on the side of the jungle road quietly resting on a tree and yawning in the middle of the day. It may have been disturbed since it is not the time for this Owl to be active. It rested on the branch for quite a while and flew away after a while.

A small resident Tit found in the forests in the state. It is a small bird, maybe around 12-13 cms. The bird is a bit hard to sight due to the small size and sightings are occasional and quite less. Our lucky day I guess, we spotted multiple in the thick forests we visited.

This was shot from a spot overlooking a small valley forest and provided a fantastic background. The bird was foraging maybe the last meal of the day. There were 3-4 of them together hunting together. This is the nesting season and birds are quite busy collecting materials and food!

Harmony of water with the geometry of architecture of the bride is always spell binding if the motion of water is frozen with long exposure

I was exploring some fields beside a large canal when we chanced upon a large swamp couple of kilometers in perimeter. The lake had a variety of birds in it, most of them far away to take pictures of. But then an Osprey flew away with a catch and shortly this Juvenile Brahminy Kite too passed over us. The water was low in many places in the swamp and there are lots of opportunities to catch fish. The kite probably missed its chance and it was close to sunset with light falling low. I guess it headed home after that since being in the open in the night was risky.

Shot taken at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh

A casual stop on the side of a highway and lo, behold there was a lake full of birds - active birds. A closer glimpse revealed this much sought after Migrant duck from Eurasia, Central Asia and Mongolia that photographers in my area love to sight and take pictures of. These birds migrate in large flocks and are often sighted with other ducks like Common Pochard, Eurasian Wigeon, Northern Pintails etc.... This is diving duck and prefers to eat aquatic plants and hence prefer lakes that not are more than 1-2 feet deep which makes it easier for them to dive.

This is a small Tit the size of a boy's palm. The bird is rare for the region and sightings are occasional and less. Our lucky day I guess, we spotted multiple in the thick forests we visited.

This was shot on a hill road overlooking a large forest that was drenched in rain much of the day and hence provided a fantastic background. The bird was foraging and looking for its partner. We expected it would fly away to cover when it started drizzling, but it was around for quite a while. Only when a Jungle Owlet showed up did it fly into cover.

Oxyopes shweta, Family: Oxyopidae

Oxyopes shweta is a species of lynx spider. This spider is distributed in India and China. An active hunter and is commonly seen in green leaves of plants actively searching for prey

There were around 30-40 Yellow Wagtails in the field along with a dozen or so Drongoes. And above them was a Black Kite hovering for a catch. For the next 30 mins the Black Kite was diving and trying to catch something, but the Drongo would chase it away. The field saw a whole lot of action which was quite thrilling. Finally the Black Kite dived into the field and picked this thing up, not sure what it is, but it is not a prey for sure. And it rested on this boundary pillar for a while making it sure its not watched and then few away to its nest atop a Palm tree I think.

I am dedicating this capture to Ashok, who inspired me in Vertical Compositions.

It was the first time i'd seen this place during the night. Had always heard about its majestic beauty, but stood witness to it for the first time during the recent launch of AIRCEL at the chowmahalla palace, close to the charminar.

View On Black

Flying above the fish farms were 100's of these terns actively looking for a break. These birds are in breeding plumage indicated by the color of the beak and feet which turn from pinkish red to black. These birds are here for the summer to breed and lay eggs. It was fun watch them fly and make merry in the sky. And its a rare chance to see them fish in the water with their beaks dipping for a second and getting a fish.

Banjara tribal people on the way to a manifestation at Warangal.

Amongst innumerable tribes who have thronged various places of eastern India, Banjara is significant. They are the typical nomads who wonder from one place to another thus leading a life in its own terms and condition. Thus their way of living is quite thrilling and full of adventures. What are equally colorful are their costumes. In fact, a Banjara women`s mode of dressing is regarded to be the most colorful as well as elaborate amongst all other tribal communities that are present at the moment in India.

During my visit to Lepakshi Temple, Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This temple is carved out of big boulders and stones, famous for its hanging pillars. The light condition was quite difficult. It was either very dark or extremely bright due to narrow pathways around the temple. I found it quite challenging to take photos among these deep shadows and bright lights.

This one is from Lepakshi, Andra Pradesh, India.

Lepakshi is a tourist place but I got this shot from inner areas of Lepakshi. which is less accessible to the tourists. This area has got beautiful sunflower farms. We were free to go inside the farm and enjoy the beauty. A very enjoyable moment.
