This is a selfie taken outside of the Ancient Puebloan Ruin called The 16 Room Riun, near the San Juan River and Bluff, Utah. This is a single exposure.
Anasazi Ruins Photos on Prime Time!
I recently had the pleasure of working with Tom Ranzweiler of Al Jazeera America News on a short segment about The Ancient Puebloan Ruins I photographed at night. It aired as an First Person piece on Monday night.
Here is the clip (it's will need to download):

Giza Pyramids (Egypt)
1900 years ago, in this Square, between the amphitheater and the Arch of Constantine, there were the Temple of Venus and Rome, the Colossus of Nero and a fountain called Meta Sudans or the Turn of Sweat. I used four exposures to create this panoramic image.

Row of Asura statues - characters from the Hindu myth of the Churning Sea of Milk - on the causeway leading to the ancient Khmer city of Angkor Thom, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Angkor group.
I thought that I would post one or two pictures from Jordan since this small Arab country is now playing center stage in the news of the day. The pictures are from a trip I made about 5 years ago.
This is the first view one has of Petra after following the long path from the hotels to the ancient UNESCO World heritage Site. The opening is the siq and the building is the Treasury. To see this mysterious view is a memory that will always be etched in my mind.
The gorgeous pink/coral/red sandstone caravan city dates back to the 6th century BC. Goods such as Arabian frankincense, Chinese silk and Indian spices were traded in this remarkable city that sits between the Dead Sea and the Red Sea. Its magic continues to mesmerize people today as the sandstone rock changes colors through out the day.

The first wall remains and wall paintings were found in 1904 by people ploughing in the Balácapuszta field of a village named Vámos in Veszprém County. Soon it became apparent that traces of a Roman farm had been discovered. The farm in Balaca is the largest known Roman farm in the former Pannonia Province. The famous mosaic floor of 62 m2 of its central building was discovered in 1925 with the help of the National Museum. It is still the main attraction of the Roman Lapidarium of the Museum. The other three mosaic floors were transferred back to their original places in 1984, in the year of the official opening of the gardens of ruins.

Masada (“fortress” in Hebrew) is a mountain complex in Israel in the Judean desert that overlooks the Dead Sea. It is famous for the last stand of the Zealots (and Sicarii) in the Jewish Revolt against Rome (66-73 CE). Masada is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Israel.
The last occupation at Masada was a Byzantine monastery, and then the site was largely forgotten due to its remoteness and harsh environment (especially in the summer months). The site was superficially explored in 1838 CE by the American archaeologists Edward Robinson and Eli Smith. Then, between 1963 and 1965 CE, Yigael Yadin, who was both an Israeli military commander as well as an archaeologist, organized the first major excavations with volunteers from around the world.
The source for the history of Masada is Flavius Josephus (36-100 CE), who wrote about the origins of the fortress under the Hasmoneans and the renovations of the site under Herod the Great (37-4 BCE). As an eyewitness to the events of the Jewish revolt against Rome (66-73 CE), he wrote The Jewish War with the last chapter relating events at Masada in 73-74 CE. Josephus described the decision to commit mass suicide at the fortress (960 men, women, and children). However, because he was not an eyewitness to the events, modern debate continues in relation to the historical basis of his story.
Semi-subterranean Temple is constructed resembling a square with the floor about 2 meters below the soil level. Like the Kalasasaya mound, the sunken courtyard is walled by standing stones and masonry infill. The walls contain many carved limestone faces. Some people believe that the faces show different ethnic groups such as African and Japanese who may have come lived in the area before the Spaniards conquered South America. In the middle of the temple is a monolith called Kon Tiki or Monolito Barado (Bearded Monolith) due to the appearance of a beard on its face. The position of the arms are in a praying position, different to the others in Tiwanaku, showing the power of the priests. Tiwanaku, Bolivia.

Ancient 11th century Hindu stone temple ruins on the top of Phnom Chisor, a holy hill in the countryside of Takeo province, Cambodia. In the nearby new Buddhist temple a sad sight: a monkey chained to a pole in clear distress. The reason I was told: "The monkey keeps trespassing the temple property and making a mess." I couldn't help to wonder if the monkey would agree with that narrative.

“Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday.
Be a self-starter.
Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again.
Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.”
~ Og Mandino

This famous Buddhist temple, dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, is located in central Java.
It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa.
The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO's help in the 1970s.

Asia - China - North China - Beijing - Peking - 北京 - Forbidden City - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Chinese imperial palace complex from Ming Dynasty up Qing Dynasty - Palace Museum - China’s largest & best-preserved collection of ancient buildings - Aerial View from Jingshan Imperial Park - Gate of Divine Prowess - 神武门 - Northernmost Palace Gate offering typical architecture with columns & 2 roofs
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing, China, and now houses the Palace Museum. For almost five hundred years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Built in 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings with 8,707 bays of rooms and covers 720,000 m2 (7,800,000 sq ft). The palace complex exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture, and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
Less usual view of Forbidden Palace, I was waiting for the lights to come up over palaces of Forbidden City after sunset, however only the main gate was lit with not very strong light. I had to set much more sensitive setting to get more colors out of the Forbidden city.

Cairo/Egypt 2019 (The Giza pyramid complex is an archaeological site including the three Great Pyramids (Khufu/Cheops, Khafre/Chephren and Menkaure/Mykerinos), the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers' village and an industrial complex located at the Giza plateau.
The ancient pyramids were constructed between (c. 2580 – c. 2560 BC), somehow. The Great Sphinx lies on the east side of the complex. Current consensus among Egyptologists is that the head of the Great Sphinx is that of Khafre. Along with these major monuments are a number of smaller satellite edifices, known as "queens" pyramids, causeways and valley pyramids...)

Indifferent to the search of meaning... yet we look for inspiration
Indifferent to the passing of time... yet we use them as symbols
Let yourself be open and life will be easier. A spoon of salt in a glass of water makes the water undrinkable. A spoon of salt in a lake is almost unnoticed. ~ Buddha

Egypt - Luxor - الأقصر - al-Uqṣur - Ancient Thebes - طيبة - UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site on banks of river Nile - Luxor Temple - Large Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile & Abu al-Haggag Mosque inside the Luxor Temple - Islamic mosque over Pharaonic Temple positioned atop the pharaonic columns
It is so sad to hear about all current troubles in Egypt and I am particularly sorry for all the people living from tourism, which is near non existing now. Place like Luxor would be paradise to visit now, nearly no money for 5* hotels, all amazing monuments for yourself. Through all the trouble in Egypt for last 2 years I made several visits to Luxor, finding it a great place to explore and having all those great ancient monuments nearly for ourselves !!

Pumapunku or Puma Punku (Aymara and Quechua puma cougar, puma, punku door, Hispanicized Puma Puncu) is part of a large temple complex or monument group that is part of the Tiwanaku Site near Tiwanaku, in western Bolivia. It is believed to date to AD/CE 536 and later.
Tiwanaku is significant in Inca traditions because it is believed to be the site where the world was created. In Aymara, Puma Punku's name means "The Door of the Puma". The Pumapunku complex consists of an unwalled western court, a central unwalled esplanade, a terraced platform mound that is faced with stone, and a walled eastern court.
At its peak, Pumapunku is thought to have been "unimaginably wondrous," adorned with polished metal plaques, brightly colored ceramic and fabric ornamentation, and visited by costumed citizens, elaborately dressed priests, and elites decked in exotic jewelry. Current understanding of this complex is limited due to its age, the lack of a written record, and the current deteriorated state of the structures due to treasure hunting, looting, stone mining for building stone and railroad ballast, and natural weathering.
***
The largest of these stone blocks is 7.81 meters long, 5.17 meters wide, averages 1.07 meters thick, and is estimated to weigh about 131 tonnes. The second largest stone block found within the Pumapunku is 7.90 metres (25.9 feet) long, 2.50 metres (8 feet 2 inches) wide, and averages 1.86 metres (6 feet 1 inch) thick. Its weight has been estimated to be 85.21 tonnes. Both of these stone blocks are part of the Plataforma Lítica and composed of red sandstone. Based upon detailed petrographic and chemical analyses of samples from both individual stones and known quarry sites, archaeologists concluded that these and other red sandstone blocks were transported up a steep incline from a quarry near Lake Titicaca roughly 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) away. Smaller andesite blocks that were used for stone facing and carvings came from quarries within the Copacabana Peninsula about 90 kilometres (56 miles) away from and across Lake Titicaca from the Pumapunku and the rest of the Tiwanaku Site.
