...Itinayo ang Bantayog ni Dr. Jose Rizal sa tapat ng Bahay Pamahalaan, na kaloob o handog ng Kapisanang X.Y.Z., kinasasapian ng yumari nito na si G. Ismael Villaseñor, kilalang pintor at escultor dito sa Lucban. Sa kabila ng kahirapang tinatawid ng bayan, ay nakapagdaos din dito ng tinatawag na karnabal. Dahil sa mahigpitang labanan ng dalawang kandidata sa pagka-Reyna, na si Bbg. Pacita Eleazar at Vicenta N. Racelis ay natatag dito ang dalawang malaking Kapisanan ng mga binata, na pinamagatang X.Y.Z., ang mga nagtataguyod kay Bb. Pacita, at X-Ray naman ang nagtataguyod kay Bb. Vicenta. Bagaman itong huli ay binubuo ng mga kabataang nag-aaral sa Maynila, ang karamihan ay mga anak lamang ng mga nakakakaya-kaya sa buhay, at hindi tulad ng mga kabataang bumubuo ng X.Y.Z., na ang karamihan ay mga anak ng pinakamalalaki at mayayamang angcan dito at mga nag-aaral din sa Maynila, ay naipanalo si Bb. Vicenta N. Racelis, dahil sa magaling na pamamaraang ginamit ng mga nagtataguyod sa kaniya. Subali't, ang panalo ng X-Rays ay hindi nagtagal, at sa loob lamang ng karnabal, sapagka't ang kapisanang iyan ay lumubog na lamang at nawala sa kaalaman ng bayan, na wala man lamang naiwan, kahit bakas; samantalang ang X.Y.Z., ay nariyan at buhay at marahil ay huwag lamang tamaan ng bomba, ay mananatili iyang nakatayo hangga't ang bayang ito ay natuturingang bayan, at huwag lamang maisipan at sadyang sirain ng sinomang mapagmalabis at nag-aangkin ng ugaling malabis na pananarili na walang lingong-likod sa iba (Egoista), tulad ng nangyari sa dating Paseo Rizal.

XYZ Club
(An elite art society, in the 1920’s that promotes painting, sculpture, and literary arts.)
In the Plaza de la Revolucion just in front of the Municipal Building is the monument JOSE RIZAL. Considered one of the best if not the very best in the archipelago, this was donated by the XYZ CLUB. The dedication ceremonies was occasion for the whole town of Lucban to show off their gala attire. A distinguished son of Lucban, Dr, Justo Lucban was the guest of honor, and a beautiful "Colegiala" from Manila declamed Rizal's "Mi Ultimo Adios".
This monument was conceived and fashioned by the artist, Ismael Villaseñor who had won honors not only in the islands but also in the International Exposition of Paris. He was assisted by Mr. Melanio Salva, another member of the association.

Old Vigan Colonial Houses – the ancestral houses were built mostly by rich Chinese traders. These great big houses are made of thick brick walls and plastering with red clay. Tile roofs are made to survive earthquakes. The Mestizo district where more than a hundred houses line side by side along Calle Crisologo.

It dates back to the early 1930's and has been kept in perfect condition ever since. During the Japanese occupation of the Phil. (WWII), this house was used as a hospital by the Japanese Imperial Army. (Dr. Dominador Almeda is my sis-in-law's great grandfather & original owner of this beautiful house).

Today it is used, primarily in the Philippines, in the manufacture of lampshades, trays, mats, and bowls.* But during the colonial period, the most prominent use was in windows such as this one: Villafrancia Ancestral House in Naga City.
