West Woods is an absolutely unique forest not far from Avebury. The recent publications show clearly that it was indeed the original place where the large stones for Stonhenge were taken from. Most likely the ancient creators used the river Avon to transport the large stones from the forest to the Stonehenge.

Kingley Vale is pure magic. One of the first National Nature Reserves in the UK, it contains yew trees that are up to 2000 years old. The Nature Reserve has Viking burial mounds dating to 830s, neolithic flint mines, an iron age settlement and a Romano-Celtic temple remains. Plus the trees. Here is my first edit.

Durdle Door is a unique feature on the Jurassic coast in Dorset. Exploring it, one embarks on a journey through time millions of years away from us. Due to its special geology the coast is designated as a UNESCO Heritage site. Seeing the Milky Way in the evening with almost no light pollution or the Orion constellation at 6am in the morning was a life-changing experience.

Kingley Vale is pure magic. One of the first National Nature Reserves in the UK, it contains yew trees that are up to 2000 years old. The Nature Reserve has Viking burial mounds dating to 830s, neolithic flint mines, an iron age settlement and a Romano-Celtic temple remains. Plus the trees. Here is my first edit.

Devil's den is an incredible ancient megalithic monument located not too far from Avebury circle. Some researchers think that it was marking a site of an ancient spring. It is part of a unique collection of prehistoric monuments in the ancient Kingdom of Wessex (currently the Wiltshire County).

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, two miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, each around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, seven feet (2.1 m) wide, and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred tumuli (burial mounds).

Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Radiocarbon dating suggests that the first bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, although they may have been at the site as early as 3000 BC.

One of the most famous landmarks in the United Kingdom, Stonehenge is regarded as a British cultural icon.[6] It has been a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1882, when legislation to protect historic monuments was first successfully introduced in Britain. The site and its surroundings were added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage; the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust.

Epping forest is an ancient woodland that has been permanently forested since neolithic times. Formerly dominated by limes, in the Saxon times the composition of the forest was changed through selective cutting. The forest became a Royal Forest under Henry II (1154-1189). Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are known to have hunted here. Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge can still be seen here in Chingford..

Pembroke Castle is a magical place and deeply historical. It is also strongly connected to my family history. At least three of its owners are my direct ancestors: Roger II the Great de Montgomery, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury (1022-1094), Richard Strongbow de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke (1125-1176), and William Marshall, 1st Earl of Pembroke, Surety of Magna Carta, the greatest knight who has ever lived. William Marshall went on crusades and requested the great keep or donjon to be created in a manner common in the Middle East but very new in Britain: the round tower has a round cupola and 6mm thick walls.

Durdle Door is a unique feature on the Jurassic coast in Dorset. Exploring it, one embarks on a journey through time millions of years away from us. Due to its special geology the coast is designated as a UNESCO Heritage site. Seeing the Milky Way in the evening with almost no light pollution or the Orion constellation at 6am in the morning was a life-changing experience.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, two miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, each around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, seven feet (2.1 m) wide, and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred tumuli (burial mounds).

Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Radiocarbon dating suggests that the first bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, although they may have been at the site as early as 3000 BC.

One of the most famous landmarks in the United Kingdom, Stonehenge is regarded as a British cultural icon.[6] It has been a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1882, when legislation to protect historic monuments was first successfully introduced in Britain. The site and its surroundings were added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage; the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust.

Kingley Vale is pure magic. One of the first National Nature Reserves in the UK, it contains yew trees that are up to 2000 years old. The Nature Reserve has Viking burial mounds dating to 830s, neolithic flint mines, an iron age settlement and a Romano-Celtic temple remains. Plus the trees. Here is my first edit.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, two miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, each around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, seven feet (2.1 m) wide, and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred tumuli (burial mounds).

Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Radiocarbon dating suggests that the first bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, although they may have been at the site as early as 3000 BC.

One of the most famous landmarks in the United Kingdom, Stonehenge is regarded as a British cultural icon.[6] It has been a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1882, when legislation to protect historic monuments was first successfully introduced in Britain. The site and its surroundings were added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage; the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust.

Kingley Vale is a magical place. The legend says that in 850AD the Anglo-Saxons had a battle with the Vikings here. This largest yew tree forest in Europe ihas trees of up to 2000 years old. It is one of the first National Nature Reserves to be created in the UK.

Here are the images from our latest exploratory tour of Armenia. A serenely beautiful and ancient country, one of the oldest centres of wine making in the world, the earliest country to adopt Christianity, Armenia never fails to impress. This set contains images of the beautiful Noravank monastery built in the 13th century, Khor Virap monastery founded in 642 AD, Sevanavank Monastery completed in the 9th century, Haghartsin monastery built in the 13th century, the pagan Garni Temple built in the 1st century, Geghard monastery founded in the 4th century to host the Holy relic of the Spear, the Zvartnotz cathedral completed in 652, views of Mount Ararat where Noah's Arc got stuck during the Great Flood and the views of Yerevan.

Devil's den is an incredible ancient megalithic monument located not too far from Avebury circle. Some researchers think that it was marking a site of an ancient spring. It is part of a unique collection of prehistoric monuments in the ancient Kingdom of Wessex (currently the Wiltshire County).

Epping forest is an ancient woodland that has been permanently forested since neolithic times. Formerly dominated by limes, in the Saxon times the composition of the forest was changed through selective cutting. The forest became a Royal Forest under Henry II (1154-1189). Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are known to have hunted here. Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge can still be seen here in Chingford..
