In the anatomical theatre in Uppsala which was built as a place to hold public dissections - you could pay to be in the audience, but it was also meant as a way to teach students about anatomy. It was built in 1662-63 by one of the most prominent scientists of the day in Sweden: Olof Rudbeck (the Elder/den äldre) when he was principal of Uppsala University.
But the dome must have seen some later work, or been completed later, because the monogram in the middle is that of king Charles XII (Karl XII), who was born 20 years after the build of the theatre, and reigned 1697-1718 and there would be no reason to use any other king's monogram than the reigning one's when the painting-work was completed.

Birds of prey are fascinating and majestic animals. They can generally be defined as birds that feed on animals that they catch alive. Representatives of these two orders can be found almost everywhere in the world. Although these groups are distantly related, the behavioural and anatomical characteristics they share appear to be mainly the result of parallel evolution.

This anatomical theatre in Uppsala was built as a place to hold public dissections - you could pay to be in the audience, but it was also meant as a way to teach students about anatomy. It was built in 1662-63 by one of the most prominent scientists of the day in Sweden: Olof Rudbeck (the Elder/den äldre) when he was principal of Uppsala University. Internationally he is probably most known as one of the first to describe the lymphatic system - so that he would be into anatomy is no surprise.
The place is built extremely narrow, to give the audience a good view down, with just standing space. The abundance of windows (which would have been even more striking back then, when Swedish houses as such tended to have rather small windows) was to give ample light to the room below. And note the decorations with the classical order of columns: Doric at the bottom, Ionic in the middle, and Corinthian at the top.

Before Rembrandt's famous painting of an anatomical lesson by Dr Tulp (1632), Michiel van Miereveld (1567-1641) in 1617 painted Dr Willem van der Meer of Delft teaching anatomy. Like Dr Tulp, Van der Meer was also as most doctors of their age professionally interested in plants and their healing powers. It is said (1644) that Van der Meer was so taken with the medicinal value of Ivy-leaved Toadflax that soon after its introduction to the Low Countries from Italy he planted it everywhere in his hometown of Delft. Toadflax quickly covered the town walls and the buildings; a learned author writes that he thinks it will before long be regarded a native plant of these lands.
Here our plant is climbing a Common Catalpa in our Hortus.
I don't know much about Van der Meer but did find that he was regarded an authority on tobacco and its medical value.
There's a correspondence with Van der Meer (1621) that Johannes Neander (c.1590-v.1630) from Bremen published in his book Tabacologia. Whether you can also smoke dried Toadflax?...

An important collection of anatomical models. He was looking for models that were made of less fragile material (with removable parts) and with the possibility of producing this series.
The students of science could practice with this.

"I am
Doll eyes
Doll mouth
Doll legs
I am
Doll arms
Big veins
Dog beg
Yeah, they really want you
They really want you, they really do
Yeah, they really want you
They really want you, and I do too
I want to be the girl with the most cake
I love him so much, it just turns to hate
I fake it so real I am beyond fake
And someday you will ache like I ache
And someday you will ache like I ache
And someday you will ache like I ache
And someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
I am doll parts
Bad skin
Doll heart
It stands
For knife
For the rest
Of my life
Yeah, they really want you
They really want you, they really do
Yeah, they really want you
They really want you, but I do too
I want to be the girl with the most cake
He only loves those things because he loves to see them break
I fake it so real I am beyond fake
And someday you will ache like I ache
And someday you will ache like I ache
Someday you will ache like I ache
And someday you will ache like I ache!
And someday you will ache like I ache!
And someday you will ache like I ache!
And someday you will ache like I ache!
Someday you will ache like I ache"
process...
My process is intuitive drawn immediately from life my memories or dreams. It is a mirror of self with things l feel closely connected to. It is by no means an easy process that can take hours days weeks even months before the perpectival moment emerges . I am not interested in perfect anatomical drawings but more the essence and expression of the thing. It takes time before l am transported to the perspectival zone that strips away everything down to what l see feel closely connected to at the time from real things like a moment, dream or memory.
On behalf of all woman who are suffering in the world. You are a strong and powerful. vulnerability is your power. ln your love and tenderness, you are a powerful presence of being. Don't let them reduce your essence. Freedom resides deep within You!!
I am thinking about humanity in art and the struggles many artists woman face in their art/ life. That ,pain we feel suffering real things that empower art the energy that moves resides deep within you that ignites it, We mustn't lose our essence, listen to your inner voice that helps you stay true and be free to express yourself as an artist creator an individual. This is precious!! It is important we stay true....
My heart goes out to the very brave, courageous Ukrainian people and all innocent people who are suffering through this war. l pray for peace and harmony soon to the Ukrainian people to the world. Stay strong !

I like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.
I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.
I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal
brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.
