For me, Thailand is the food paradise. Tasty street food is availabek everywhere. The Thais love eating anyway. The first question if I meet a Thai friend is: "Have you eaten already?" Second question: "What did you eat?" Third question: "How much did you pay?" :))

Saint-Germain Church

For everybody who is interested, pleas read the comment by Karol which I copied here:

"The church of Saint-Germain,l'Auxerrois, located in the 1st arrondissement in Paris, at 2 Place du Louvre. It was named after the Bishop of Auxerre who became a papal envoy and who met Saint Genevieve the patron Saint of Paris...

Thank you so much Karol!

During my education I went twice on a week-long study trip to Paris with the class. The first trip was in 1974.

I had my first SLR camera , an Asahi Pentax SP II which I bought second hand from my long time and hardly saved pocket money, and only one slide film roll with 36 exposures with me! My pocket money wasn't enough for more.

The film material has suffered a lot over the years, but I only have a small selection here for those friends who are interested in seeing what it was like in Paris at the time.

With the City Highways and the Sky Train (BTS), and countless pedestrian bridges a new City landscape developed in Bangkok, Thailands Capital City.

This is my own work, an analogue photo montage made of two images on 35mm slide film. The Buddha image was taken on my travels in Thailand, the laser light was taken at at laser light show in the Planetarium in London.

Taking photos was not allowed. I had my Nikon FE on my laps, the lens pointed upright, I didn’t look through the view finder. Just pressed the shutter by a guess!

Both in the 80th. Then I sampled the two film shots into one slide frame as a so called "Sandwich“, then I scanned it, using a Nikon Coolscan LS 40ED film scanner, digitalised and edited on Mac.

My very first impressions after arrival in Bangkok, coming from the Philippines, have been overwhelming. Ut has been my first trip ti Asia as a backpacker! I fell in love with Thailand immediately. This shot I made at boon time the the roads are empty when people have their lunch break!

Recently I re-edited it. Trying to touch up most of the disturbing "bubbles“ in the sky, caused by bacterial damage on the old slide film material, which I kept in sealed frames with glass which was a big mistake, Many years later I re framed my slides and now keep the in glassless frames,

Samui as the largest island in the archipelago already had an almost continuous ring road which partly consisted of a concrete runway. This is what the only few gas stations looked like there where shared taxis "Songthaew"could be refuelled, as here. Shared taxis were the only available means of transport to the small town of Nathon where the ferry to the mainland Suratthani also docked. After the last ferry arrived in the afternoon, there were no more transport options.

In the 80s Koh Pha Ngan was far back in development in contrast to its neighboring island Koh Samui. There were only dirt roads and hardly any private car. A few Thai families had built simple bamboo huts on the beach for a few backpacking tourists. We ate what the family cooked for us, it was always very tasty. There were no shops or exchange offices, no bank or post office. So the length of stay on this island was limited.

Staying simple and enjoy nature that was so relaxing and good for body and mind!

History of the Tacheles:

The building on Oranienburger Strasse was only given the name Tacheles in the 1990s through an artist initiative. The house was one of the Friedrichstrasse Passages built at the beginning of the 20th century.

At the beginning of the Second World War, the National Socialists used the building, then, in GDR times, the Free German Trade Union Confederation. Because the building was badly damaged during the Second World War, it should be blown up after the fall of the Wall in February 1990. But shortly before the demolition, the Tacheles artists' initiative occupied the building. Instead of demolishing it, it was possible to place the house under monument protection.

Gradually, the Tacheles established itself as a fixture in the Berlin art and culture scene. Numerous studios, exhibition areas, a cinema, a bar and larger rooms for concerts, readings, etc. made the Tacheles a diverse and innovative place and a magnet for Berliners and tourists.

After the lease between the artist group and the owner was no longer extended, there were public discussions for a long time about preserving the tile and using the building. Unsuccessful. The eviction took place in 2012.

The Tacheles has been facing a new future since 2016. On April 4th, 2016, preparatory work for the construction of a new city quarter began on the site of the building, which had been vacant for years. The area is to be renovated and used for offices, shops and apartments. A further cultural use is also being considered: The Swedish photography museum Fotografiska wants to open a branch in the former Tacheles. The new opening is planned for 2022.
