この遊園地は色々絵になります。

This amusement park has a lot of great shooting points.

I had been working on a group of images intermittently for a few weeks, not realising that they would form the basis for a series. Most of the subjects were brightly coloured as is usually the case in fairgrounds and amusement parks - obviously to first attract one's eye and then the money. I wanted to reduce the colour and experimented with a semi-documentary style with much of the colour reduced or removed, but still retaining a subtle impact. Removing the colour also reduced the distractions and allowed the detail and visual narrative to come forward in a clearer way. This technique set the pattern for most of the images although the emphasis of colour is slightly different in each. My intention and the general outcome has a sinister appearance, not the usual fun feeling associated with such places and subjects.

Detail shot amongst the tacky amusement arcade games on Paignton Pier, Devon.

For amusement, we like to play several games. The strategy game of Mancala is simple to learn, yet difficult to master.

Wandering around Saltburn last night trying out some HDR shots (taking 3 shots at different exposures and then combining them to bring out the night contrasts and reduce light glow) I'm there with my tripod and shutter open for 3x 30 secs at each attempt and the amount of people that simply walk in front of you is amazing as if I wasn't there. When I took this shot 5 people walked into my field of view yet because they were moving the long exposure didn't record them leaving me with the misty amusements.

Wandering around Lakeside Amusement Park, I happened across this hidden gem. I'm not sure why they bothered to light up this pillar, as it's hidden a bit and off the beaten path, but I'm glad they did.

Here we are in an abandoned amusement arcade within a hotel casino, The Hotel closed many years ago at least 15. This part of the building is totally full of old game machines from the late 80’s.

Real sad to see some of my old favourites like Qix and out-run and a row of pac-man table ball games there too .
