Admittedly we turned up close to opening time, but we queued for half an hour to get into the art museum, which is not an experience I'm used to at home unless there's a very special exhibition on.

This museum opened in late summer and has been a huge success, with strong sustained visitor numbers. Surprisingly we were only in there for about an hour, but that's ok when people queue for 90 minutes for a three minute ride at Alton Towers!

This was the biggest installation at the Amos Rex museum, and it was captivating stuff. Titled 'Vortex of Light Particles' by teamLab, the piece is site specific and uses the curved walls and ceilings of the gallery space with dozens of digital projectors to create a seamless swirling vortex that sweeps from floor to ceiling. We made use of the thoughtfully provided mattress sized bean bags to take in the full view.
