Amish family in horse-drawn market wagon leaving Peight's Country Store, Belleville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania

Have a nice day!

I'm wondering why this young horse was in this pasture. It was adjacent to an Amish farm but there were just the two young horses in this area and I'm pretty sure there is no fence at the back where the woods are. It looked healthy apart from lots of burrs.

I found the Amish had basically the same curtains in their windows. So neatly looking. HWW

Normally, this horse is hitched to a wagon and working on a Monday. The local Amish celebrate Easter Monday, though, so he had a day off to watch the sun rise.

This Amish farmer was plowing his field during the early morning hours in Stanton Michigan.

These are typical greenhouses in Lancaster and Chester Counties of Pennsylvania. These are the greenhouses in which the Amish farmer extends the season for veggies available for purchase at the farm stand. The potted plants are Mums, popular here in the fall.

These guys are good! In one day they tore everything off, replaced windows and doors and started putting new siding on. Flickr seemed to be working fine yesterday (although a bit slow.) Only had to work eleven hours,so had a little time to play. (When the corn gets a little dryer, I will be working a minimum of fifteen hours a day and probably be too tired) Have a wonderful day!

My husband had off from work 10 days ago, so we decided to take a drive up into Amish country--Cashton area--which is south of I-90 and runs along state highway 33 up on the ridge. Since it's the season, we hit Maple Ridge Orchard to buy some juicy, delicious apples, and then we actually bought an Amish-made wagon wheel I've been wanting for some time to help decorate the outside of our house.

The fall colors were fabulous, as well, as you can plainly see! Just beautiful, especially when you pair it with the golden grains! Hope you all enjoy!

A quilt is a type of blanket, traditionally composed of three layers of fiber: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting or wadding, and a woven back, combined using the technique of quilting.

Quilts are distinguished from other types of blanket because they are pieced together from several layers of cloth by stitches or ties. Where a single piece of fabric is used for the top, (a “wholecloth quilt”), the key decorative element is likely to be the pattern of stitching, but where the top is “pieced” from a patchwork of smaller fabric pieces, the pattern and color of the pieces will be important.

Have a lovely Sunday!

I believe this was an Amish wedding. Tuesdays and Thursdays are wedding days. The group was walking from the ceremony to the reception area. All the women are in their Sunday outfits; black with white bonnets and aprons.

Late on a Friday afternoon, an Amish farmer has his team baling the final row of a field of corn straw. Many of the local farmers now use the large round and rectangular balers that produce bales that weigh in excess of 1/2 ton. Quite a few, including this one, still use the old-school balers that require someone on the wagon to stack the bales.

This clothes line must be 150 ft (50m). Very convenient to load everything on the line without leaving the back porch but don't try to get one dress at the other end unless all are dry.

Horse & buggies are still in abundance throughout Amish towns. When they have to, they will venture out on busy roads where there are lots of cars. Most people respect their way of travel and will slow way down if they need to pass them or stay behind them. A few drivers will zip right past them, unfortunately. The horses wear eye blinders so as not to get spooked at what's beside them. Most buggies nowadays have lights on the back so when they are out at nighttime they can be well seen.

We are on vacation in Lancaster, PA. and have been busy visiting with family. I will get around to visiting when we get home.

This is a photo of an Amish Farmer. I was careful not to photograph his face as they do not believe in having their photos taken. They have beautiful farms and I took this while riding in a carriage.
