Volvo Amazon saloon Sellindge steam rally 2009

The Volvo Amazon was a mid-size car manufactured by Volvo Cars from 1956 until July 3 1970 at the company's Torslandaverken — with 667,323 vehicles produced.

Compared to its predecessor, the PV, the Amazon was a more modern car available in a wider range of body-styles — though the Amazon shared both the wheelbase from the PV as well as its tall posture and high H-point seating. Notably, the Amazon was the first car to feature three-point seat belts, and the first to have any kind of seat belt as standard equipment.

When originally introduced, the car was called the Amason (with an 's'), which derives from the fierce female warriors of Greek mythology, the Amazons. Volvo modified the spelling to Amazon and used the name for the range up until 1961, when it initiated its new tri-digit nomenclature and the line became known as the 120 Series.

Seen on a recent trip to Port Elizabeth. It looked to be in showroom condition. About 14000 Amazons were assembled locally at the Motor Assemblies plant in Durban between 1960 and 1973.

Got back on the boat and cruised over to Peru on the other side of the river.

I prefer the Amazon store to the iTunes store. Blasphemy, I know.

Happy Christmas!

With so many friends and family living 6000 miles away, this year we have ended up with an amazon.com box pile almost as tall as the Christmas tree. Maybe it's time to buy some of Jeff Bezos' stock?

So, for my B-day my Grandma gave me a $20 gift card for Amazon.com. Don't tell her this, but I think that a gift card is a dumb idea. Anyways, I was just able to order these 4 Lego dudes with the money I had. Ridiculous prices.

On a less negative note, I love these! All four minifigs are amazing! And the AC spaceship/speeder thing is surprisingly fun to play with. The curved sides equal lots of lateral swooshyness. The AC blaster the the ADU guy has is the most amazing Lego gun I've ever seen. I'll have to post some pictures of some neat combinations I found with it. Also; the Hazmat guy is my favorite! All I need are some zombies!

Here's my new camera and how it it arrived (along with _Fudoki_ by Kij Johnson). It was just rattling around inside the box, with ONE air bladder. I don't yet know if the camera is OK, but even if it is, I think Amazon should do better. (Photo taken with MacBook Pro's built-in camera, not the new camera.)

First glance I saw it I thought it was the Mac icon.... maybe the Amazon Creative Team use Mac's?

Or...maybe its just a coincidence.

Very interesting choice of function hall

So a bunch of my Amazon orders came in lol. I really wanted the 2016 Holiday Barbie with the Claudette sculpt and she was $15, I knew if I waited any longer she’s going to go for bonkers prices later on.

I figured I pick up another doll or two to save on shipping so I grabbed a Batman doll to steal his body, and picked up this Henry Higgins doll cuz I’ve been wanting a brown suit but they’ve all been $30+ and Henry here was $23 so.

Claudette’s dress is BIG though it sheds glitter and literally feels like a tent due to the plastic fabric. I actually really liked Model Muse bodies cuz the solid vinyl legs and dynamic poses make them good candidates for modeling clothing and photography, but this one? It’s AWFUL. The legs are hollow plastic and there’s messy seams everywhere so it’s basically garbage.

Batman is a weird one but I have no issues with him asides from his head looking like a burping potato and ALL his accessories are super soft vinyl, so I can’t imagine these surviving very well.

Henry Higgin’s suit is a Jacket and combination shirt and pants thing but… I miss this level of quality from Mattel. The fabric is hemmed, the jacket is fully lined and it just feels so much better than either of these other dolls lol. However his shoe did explode off and the box is degrading a lot so yeah.

My beautiful picture

Parked outside the 5th Ave Theatre for our All Hands meeting.

This is still one of my favorite pictures, even though it's a few years old. We took a canoe trip through the flooded forest with some local Brazilians who worked at a rural school near Gurupa (in the state of Pará). The forest gets flooded daily with the tides of the Amazon.
