When I was drinking a lot and not in a good place I promised the dog I'd make her a tin of beef stew and she could have it on a windswept beach once I'd cleaned myself up. Well not quite the windswept isolated beach with huge skies I had in mind but I kept my promise and that's a tin of Waitrose Speciality Sirloin Chunks on the go in the superb Alpkit Mighty Mug in Warnscale Bothy. I had a tin of big soup with some chunky bread so was hardly slumming it, opened a bottle of apple juice for my own little celebration and we then sat outside watching the sun set over Buttermere. I will say one thing. Life is soooo much better sober. No matter how far gone you think you are, there is always a way back.
It might have been in the 20s when I left the car but by sunset it was bitterly cold even for July up on Round Crag.
My summer bag just managed to keep me warm overnight .
When I took this photo in the cold without my glasses and dewy eyed I never noticed this Moonbow , but when I got home and got a better view of it on the computer it was clearly there.
I have never seen one of these so was quite pleased as they are supposed to be rare if the conditions are right.
Live in the hills tonight , all is good when you have 4g signal and can watch your team in the fa cup .

This is my Kraku ultralight tiny gas stove which I use on my wild camping trips , folded it is 37mm by 52mm . It can fit into an old 35mm film case but I can't get the lid to close properly .
so schnell gehts, gestern noch Elba mit 28° und heute im Weinviertel unterwegs bei einer "Spritztour"
It might have been July but the temperature really dropped when the sun went in , the wind probably didn't help either .
Apologies in advance for another bike shot. I'm not showing off it's just I have a new subject to photograph and that is a rarity.
Beauty dish camera right and heavily diffused Yongnuo 560iv camera left with turquoise gel.
If I manage to stop gawping at it in the next 24 hours I might look for inspiration elsewhere.
Self portrait from January, however it's November and by all accounts it's going to get very cold over the next few days, so I shall be dressed like this when it's sunny, or we get more snow.
These summer camps are great but you have to wait till nearly midnight to try any night shots .
Looking inside my Alpkit Soloist as I was getting ready to bed down for the night on the summit of Mardale lll Bell above Haweswater.

It was a lovely night above Ullswater watching the night sky and the stars appear as the clouds faded away.

Three days and nights of wetness have topped up the becks and reservoirs.Muddied paths and soaked fallen leaves.Looks a bit more like the back end now.

Back in August 2012 I was part of a team of 4 on an exploratory expedition to the Altai mountains in Southern Siberia. The Altai are rarely visited by Westerners and our goal, funded and supported in part by the generosity of the BMC, Alpine Club, MEF, Berghaus, Buffwear and Alpkit, was to put up some British first ascents and report back on the area to facilitate future trips.
This photo was taken as we were packing up our gear at around 3am, having slept out in the open part way up the slopes of Dzhaniktu (the second highest peak in the area, just visible to the top left) our headtorches cutting trails through the air with the Milky Way visible above. Not having my tripod with me on this particular day (we were trying to travel as light as possible, considering that we were carrying all of our bivvy gear alongside the usual climbing gear) I placed the camera on a nearby rock and lined up the shot as best I could.

This is a creation of needs. My cyclocross bike got written off in a crash and I had this Bonrager frame sitting idle with little use. The CX bike got stripped and the components transfered to this frame. It is a bit of a bastard creation with 700c wheels on a frame designed to take a 26' wheel.
I bought some Salsa Woodchipper bars and Moto Ace stem to achive a more commanding riding position for extended trips. This bike is supposed to be a stop gap until I buy a new CX machine... but i'm growing quite fond of it.
The rear rack is a Topeak item.
