Aloha means Hello. Aloha means Goodbye. Aloha means I love you. . .
Found this one in my library from years ago , back when I had a point and shoot Canon.
The last night of a local Fall Friendship festival years ago - late at night when children had gone home to bed and the annual event was winding down.
It's even more surreal due to the slow shutter speed of 1/6th of a second giving motion to the passerby, those ominous clouds , and the dark, grainy appearance.
We have released a summer dress at the Aloha Fair. 30% off is applied especially for this event. Don't miss it.

Ailanthus Webworm Moth (Atteva aurea)
The first one I've seen this year. I call it an "Aloha Bug" or "Hawaiian Shirt" bug because it looks like its wearing a Hawaiian shirt!

We seem to be getting a good number of ailanthus webworms (Atteva aurea) at our porch light these days. Last year they were much earlier. They are a critter that, as a caterpillar, feeds on the leaves of the ailanthus tree. They would be considered a nuisance, but the trees are MORE of a nuisance as one of our local invasive plant species. Therefore, these guys are actually welcome around here!
I love the red, black and white floral patterning on his outer wings. To me it really looks like he has put on his Hawaiian shirt, and is ready for the (porch light) luau.

A month or so back I had the opportunity to go play at Oahu's North Shore and had a great time snorkeling. I initially was there to surf, but it was flat, and when the swell's going, I'm not that good anyways - so it's a hit and miss for me. Either too big or too small.
But the snorkeling, shave ice, and meetup with world famous pro photographer Sean Davey was super awesome, and I couldn't have asked for a better day in paradise. Sean has been on my list of pros to meet, and he was kind enough to oblige. Be sure to check out his work. He shoots in cool places like Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti, and at most of the other famous surf spots around the world, but is also an amazing landscape photographer (where he actually got his start).
The above photo is over-looking Sharks Cove, one of the best places to snorkel. The area on the left is completely protected water, and a great place for families, where the area on the right goes out to the open ocean. Everytime I'm there, I see something new, and this time it was an octopus. The turtles were out and about, and of course tons of fish and the usual sea-life. Last time it was a Monk Seal and more turtles!

Wasn't planning on shooting this evening but this sunset was pretty spectacular during my dinner hour at Gordon Biersch at Aloha Tower. It is a fusion of 2 images, one for the highlights and one for the shadows.
The lush landscapes of Kauai have doubled for dozens of Hollywood movie locations. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Tropic Thunder, King Kong, Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean..seeing these lush views before you, a visitor can be forgiven into thinking they either in Vietnam, South America or a land of a giant ape.
This was taken at an overlook in the lovely suburb of Princeville in Kauai. Hawaii is known for it's double rainbows which was occurring just off frame; the view point was rammed with noisy tourists photographing that scene. Just to right of them was a wide enough space to photograph this lovely light hitting the hills and fields with no civilians in site..
