Tall fast-growing ornamental native grevillea tree, impressive and unmistakable in full flower in spring, when it seems to glow. Elegant slender conical silhouette with sweeping upturned branches and deep green tiny leaves. Often flowers at the same time as jacaranda and poinciana, creating an orange-purple-red rainbow of colour in street scenes.

Grevillea robusta is a flowering plant in the family Proteaceae, and accordingly unrelated to true oaks, family Fagaceae. Grevillea robusta is a tree, and is the largest species in its genus. It is a native of eastern coastal Australia, growing in riverine, subtropical and dry rainforest environments.

A beautiful red barn located on the former farm of W. Clyde & Marie Hyder. Mr. Hyder, a former animal sciences professor, was Professor Emeritus of Tennessee Tech and the W. Clyde Hyder / Tommy Burks Agriculture Pavilion (a multipurpose facility consisting of 3.5 acres under one roof and operated by the School of Agriculture at Tennessee Tech University) was named for him. He received the title of Outstanding University Alumnus as well as Outstanding Agriculture Alumnus after his retirement.

This photograph was taken last week after during the winter storm that passed through Middle Tennessee. The contrast of the amazing red barn with all the white snow makes a great scene...

This G block in ElmWood Apartments was my port-of-entry to the Western Michigan University. The friends I made at that time remained as friends even today. Late 2003 was a great time for everybody.

This old water fountain, constructed in a way that I've never seen anywhere else, is located behind the home plate backstop at one of the intramural softball fields at Tennessee Tech University. While I was a student (and a non-traditional one at that in my 30's), I played many softball games on this field and the one adjacent to it. And, while I was there, I noticed these unique water fountains...fast forward a few years and I'm attempting to do a 365 day photograph challenge and they popped into my head one afternoon after work. There also happen to be an amazing sunset taking place on that day and I ended up not using this particular shot. So, here we are revisiting the previous 365 and now I get to show you this unique fountain.

Plac Mickiewicza / Mickiewicz Square, Poznań

Great Court, University of Queensland. The first building completed on the St. Lucia site, and originally known as the Chemistry building, the Steele building was named for Professor Bertram Dillon Steele in 1966. Steele, born in 1870 and died in 1934, was the foundation Professor of Chemistry, member of Senate, inventor of a new type of gas mask, chair of the 1923 Royal Commission for the control of prickly pear and Emeritus Professor.

Jere Whitson Hall, one of Tennessee Tech’s oldest and most historic buildings and the original university library, was transformed in 2018 into a campus visitor and welcome center. With more than 27,000 square feet of usable space, the building is now home to the offices of admissions, financial aid, advisement, academic services, records and registration, new student and family programs, and military and veteran affairs. Consolidation of these offices into one space (previously spread out across multiple buildings on campus) makes it easier on students who need assistance, and provides important navigation help for incoming students and their families. It was originally built in 1949 and named for Jere Whitson, one of the original founders of Dixie College.

This manmade swamp, aka the "lake" is on the campus of my alma mater, University of Louisiana (formerly University of Southwestern Louisiana) in Lafayette. There are 'gaters in this little swamp and every year everyone gathers 'round to clap and cheer when some guy in a cape dives in...The girls were horrified...

Two-and-a-half months since last viewed these structures are still not finished. It's after 9:00a.m. on a weekday and no one is working at this site.

As you walk around the Tennessee Tech campus in Cookeville, Tennessee, look up and you will see a landmark perched up on top of Derryberry Hall, the clock tower. The clock tower features a clock on each of its four sides, a carillon sound system, and the Golden Eagle. Designed to be aesthetically pleasing, but primarily functional, the tower’s purpose was to house the clock and carillon sound system, keeping time for campus and students. The Golden Eagle was nested atop the Jere Whitson Memorial Library (Jere Whitson Hall) but was moved to Derryberry after the building’s 1960s “renovation”. The original eagle statue came to Tech in 1952, after being lifted from the Monteagle Hotel in a heist by three students. The current eagle atop of the hall is one of two replicas made by the Appalachian Center for Craft. Tech gave the second replica to the town of Monteagle to replace the one lifted in the student heist.

At the time of this photo in 2013, the clock tower was still in relatively good condition but over the years it weathered and peeled and began to exhibit sign of structural issues. As I am uploading this photo in January of 2022, a completely new clock tower is currently being installed on Derryberry Hall where the infamous Golden Eagle will be reinstalled. This is something that has been needed for a long time after many other buildings on campus received renovations and this iconic centerpiece was sitting in major disrepair. As an alumni, this makes me happy to see this upgrade take place.

Across Belmont Ave. from my alma mater 1942-48

Located at 705 North Dixie Avenue in Cookeville, this building was originally built in 1969 and was formerly known by the following names: Varsity Cinema Theatre, Varsity Twin, and Alumni Building. The Varsity Cinema Theatre held its grand opening ceremony on September 11, 1969 and was not an official university building at the time if its conception. The movie theatre operated from 1969 until 2001. In 2014 Tennessee Tech acquired the former Varsity Cinema Theatre where it operated as the Alumni Building. On the 50th anniversary of the Varsity Theatre's grand opening, Tennessee Tech renamed it the Varsity Building. In 2017, the building was renamed the Leonard and Gladys Crawford Alumni Center in honor of two individuals who had such great impact on the Tech campus.

For nearly 3 decades, alumni and administrators Leonard & Gladys Crawford were among the most beloved figures on the Tech campus. Leonard, a member of Tech’s class of 1929 – the first baccalaureate class – is noted for his efforts in growing the Alumni Association. He also directed Tech's alumni and job placement offices, student recruiting and campus workshops. Gladys, a 1935 graduate, ran Tech's cafeteria for many years as head dietitian.

The Crawford Alumni Center is housed in the Tennessee Tech Varsity Building on the corner of 7th St. and Dixie Ave. The Center manages alumni engagement, annual giving and stewardship efforts for the university and is the main point of contact for the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association.

Though nearly half a century has passed since the Crawford's service to Tech, alumni still remember them with fondness. Leonard and Gladys Crawford were leaders in both school spirit and campus life – and that's a role the Crawford Alumni Center strives to fulfill today with the experiences they offer to alumni and friends of Tech.
