Top 9 Canon/DCM Online Photo Contest 2008 Winner
Sometimes it pays to get up early in the morning and keep your eyes open for possibilities. On the day I took this photo, I was doing both. I'd hiked a little way up an alluvial fan in pursuit of two male Stone's Sheep, but they'd spotted me coming and had decided to hightail it up a steep sided hill. I wasn't about to follow. Instead I came back down towards the terminal end of the fan to continue our journey. Then we spotted these females and a calf. They were intent on extracting salt from a lick at the edge of this field of seeding flowers. Wow! I was able to snap a fair number of photos with my venerable (8 year old) Olympus OM-D E-M1 matched to my new 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3. I shot handheld, relying on the lens's image stabilization. The calf was generally hidden behind the other sheep, but by taking a number of images, I eventually got one with the calf peaking up at me. I am so pleased with the result. Nature can be incredibly beautiful, and absolutely wonderful to behold!
For some background on the species, Stone's Sheep were named after Andrew J. Stone, and are a subspecies of the all-white Dall Sheep, which are found in the Yukon. The proper scientific name for Dall Sheep is Ovis dalli dalli, while Stone's Sheep are Ovis dalli stonei. Both are often termed "thinhorn sheep" because their horns tend to be smaller than their southern cousins the "bighorn sheep."
Stone Sheep eat such things as grasses, wildflowers, and the leaves of shrubs growing in their range. As in my photo, you can sometimes spot them licking naturally salty rocks.
Male, or ram, Stone's sheep have large curved horns, which you can see in one of my other photos, while female, or ewe Stone's Sheep have smaller straighter horns. Males use their horns to compete with other males for breeding rights to females. Female stone sheep will use their horns to defend their offspring.
This photo was taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 (a six or seven year old micro four-thirds camera) and the M.Zuiko 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS ED MSC (an image stabilized zoom with built in IS). All raw conversion and post processing was performed using DxO PhotoLab 5.3.X. Cataloging and uploading to Flickr were performed with Adobe Lightroom Classic 11.

This choco chip cookies recipe is also called as drop cookies from the United states invented by chef Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938. Though I have done lot of baking items from cookies, muffins, cakes till pizza’s all through these years and have at least little knowledge in baking, I was somewhat skeptical to post baking recipes. But I myself don’t know the reason? As christmas and New year festives are round the corner, I am getting so many request from my viewers to post some related recipes and here is the first baking post eggless chocolate chip cookies in ‘asmallbite’. As christmas and new year countdown has started, I am posting a simple and very easy eggless tutti frutti cake recipe. This cake doesn't call for much ingredients and it is an egg-less, butter-less and cost effective version. If you want to make a plain vanilla sponge cake, then you can skip the tutti frutti and that is the basic version which can be used for all other pastries. This cake is so spongy, soft and a sure treat for eyes. Prepare this colourful cake and have a wonderful Christmas and New year coming ahead. I also prepared a small batch for my kids in a separate fancy tray to surprise them, which I used in backdrop.

Poondu Puli Kuzhambu / Garlic Kuzhambu Recipe is a traditional dish of South Indian cuisine. The only tiring part is peeling the skin of small onions and garlic, but once done this kuzhambu statys good for a week which will reduce our cooking burden. If once prepared in large quantity, it will be very helpful to working women and bachelors. This kuzhambu is not only a sidedish for rice but also goes very well with breakfast items like idli, dosa, appam, akki roti etc. This is a authentic recipe of my grandmother and she usually prepare this in a mud pot. The flavour of the mud pot blends with the kuzhambu and tastes divinely as it gets older. In our family, this kuzhambu will be prepared and given to newly delivered moms, as garlic has the capacity to heal the wounds and increase lactation.

Eggless Christmas Fruit Cake Recipe / Plum Cake is usually light or dark brown in colour, have crumbled texture, enriched with dry fruits and nuts. It is said dry fruit and nuts are soaked in rum / wine before six months itself and allowed to ferment. But this version I have given below is an eggless, non alcoholic version. The cake is so flavourful and delicious, but because of my craziness to taste the cake, I cut the cake before cooling and it got crumbled. So I baked a second batch and ended up with rework. But I feel its worth trying it. Wish you all a Merry Christmas.

I can say that this recipe given below is a foolproof one, you can trust me and do try it out in your kitchen without any doubts.
