Glänzender Ehrenpreis - wayside speedwell (veronica polita)

Today its time again to give room to another Underdog of the gardens and meadows. I'm talking about the wayside speedwell (veronica polita). This, at a first sight unremarkable plant, turns out to be a filigrane beauty, when You take a closer look. The beautiful blue blossoms are only 5 to 10 mm in diameter.

In the middle ages the speedwell was something like the swiss army knife amongst the herbs. Its usage were reaching from the therapy of wounds and insect stings, across splenic and liver diseases up to epilepsy and even inner toxications and even many more. Thats quite a lot for a tiny plant like this.

So do not underastimate the tiny and homely, maybe You are gone need them one day.

Heute ist es mal wieder an der Zeit, einem Underdog der Gärten und Wiesen etwas Raum zu geben. Die Rede ist vom Glänzenden Ehrenpreis (veronica polita). Diese auf den ersten Blick sehr unscheinbare Pflanze entpuppt sich aus der Nähe betrachtet als filigrane Schönheit. Die Blüten haben einen Durchmesser von gerade einmal 5-10 mm.

Im Mittelalter war der Ehrenpreis so etwas wie das Schweizer Taschenmesser unter den Heilkräuter. Seine Verwendung reichte von der Behandlung von Wunden und Insektenstichen, über Milz- und Leberbeschwerden bis hin zur Epilepsie oder sogar inneren Vergiftungen. und noch einiges mehr. Ganz schön viel, für so eine kleine Pflanze.

Also unterschätzt nicht die kleinen und unscheinbaren, wer weiß ob Ihr sie nicht eines Tages mal braucht.

Not so much by the things I do not know. Disturbed I am by things I do know. Pentacon 3.5/30 at F5.6. This lens used to be a wide-angle lens for film cameras. On an APS-C sensor it is a 'normal' lens, an allrounder, therefore, as here, suitable for portrait as well.

Pentacon 3.5/30 at F8. This lens may be 50 years old, but it is a fine allrounder and a joy to use. The bokeh is interesting too.

[DE] Der AM80 ist ein echter Allrounder. Man kann sie Überall antreffen, auf S-Treins um Liege und Antwerpen, L-Treins im Ganzen Land und auf wichtigen Intercity Linien wie Antwerpen - Leuven oder Brussels Airport Zaventem - Oostende. Trotz ihres Alters wurden sie nochmals moderniesiert und erhielten neue Sitzpolster, Fahrradstellplätze sowie ein Behinderten Gerechtes WC. Somit werden sie noch lange in Belgien vor sich hin fahren.

Hier ist ein AM80 als IC von Antwerpen nach Hasselt unterwegs und Durchfährt Boechout. Als nächstes wird Lier erreicht

Four years ago I had started serious photography - with this lens (a "pancake" lens). Very soon, I had sold it on the assumption that the lens was not "good enough" for my ambitious taste. The truth is that I was not good enough for the lens. Today I am aware that one can produce good images using almost any lens. So I acquired the pancake lens again, it is an allrounder, and one can even do portrait with it. If my images are poor, do not blame the lens.

I was so lucky to see this dolphin playing in the waves during my visit in byron bay, about 15 humpback whales were swimming in this area the same time, but this dolphin made my day.
