Once upon a time, All Nippon Airways was synonymous for being the airline for Pokémon; Japan's largest airline became well known through the late-1990s to early-2010s for adorning some of their wide-body jets in special Pokémon colours primarily used on domestic flights, bar the one Boeing 747-400 that was dedicated to international flying.
In recent years, All Nippon Airways has and continues to feature their Star Wars jets albeit only 2 remain, and has recently repainted 2 airframes in the Manga/Anime series, Demon Slayer; however in recent years there has been a resurgence in Pokémon once again appearing on aircraft, this time from airlines not just from Japan but also across Asia.
As part of The Pokémon Company's 25th anniversary since the launch of their first game, the Nintendo Gameboy's Pokémon Red & Blue in 1996, the company launched the Pokémon Air Adventures which sees airlines partnering with the company, "By bringing you closer to other people and other regions, Pokémon Air Adventures will show you the joy of travel."
The first airlines to Pokémon Air Adventures include Japan low-cost carrier, Skymark Airlines; this was followed by Singaporean low-cost carrier, Scoot, then China Airlines, T'Way in South Korea and the latest to join in is All Nippon Airways.
As part of All Nippon Airways joining, 2 planes will receive special colours, the first being a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in Pikachu Jet colours which entered service on 4th June 2023. The second will be the first time a jet has been painted dedicated to Eevee and their respective Eev-olutions.
The Eevee Jet was announced after ANA had painted their Boeing 787-9 in Pikachu Jet colours back in June 2023, and would see a Boeing 777-300ER featuring the colour scheme this time around... What is interesting was the registration already identified in the renders which was JA784A, now ANA's oldest Boeing 777-300ER which did receive a major interior refurbishment in-line with their youngest examples of the type back in October 2020.
Shortly after, the carrier announced where the Eevee Jet will be operating and no guesses that London Heathrow will be the first to see the jet from 31st August 2023 operating their daily NH211/212. As of writing, JA784A is currently in Xiamen undergoing her repaint into Eevee Jet colours.

We are now approaching 6 months since the majority of countries introduced lockdown measures with the growing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic seeing airlines cancelling a vast majority of flights. With demand still stagnating as airlines now ramping up demand as lockdown restrictions begin to ease, expect further changes leading into the winter.
For All Nippon Airways has continued to operate into London Heathrow regularly, primarily to transport cargo as demand has dropped. Since 29th March 2020, the daily flight (NH211/212) has dropped to only thrice weekly utilising Boeing 777-300ERs.
Prior to this, All Nippon Airways have been utilising their newest Boeing 777-300ERs since 2nd August 2020. Initially, 6 brand new Boeing 777-300ERs delivered in 2019 feature new interiors, another 6 are expected to be refitted with the new interiors, the first retrofitted example being JA788A having received new interiors in May 2020, previously she was in a high-density cabin layout.
In July 2019, All Nippon Airways announced brand new cabins to be delivered to their 6 brand New Boeing 777-300ERs which are currently in the process of being delivered new by Boeing. The new interiors were designed by British-based Acumen and architecture by Kengo Kuma.
The interiors see a redesigned First Class suite from their small Airbus A380 fleet, a brand new Business Class suite which are based on the Safran Fusio seat which ANA are the launch customer. Premium Economy are what is currently featured on their existing fleet, but feature new upholstery; whilst Economy goes over to 10-abreast which have already been fitted to their 6 existing high-density Boeing 777-300ERs.
Currently, All Nippon Airways have 56 Boeing 777s in their fleet, which includes 7 Boeing 777-200s (5 currently in storage), 12 Boeing 777-200ERs (4 currently in storage), 7 Boeing 777-300s (all of which are currently stored), 28 Boeing 777-300ERs (10 currently in storage) and 2 Boeing 777Fs. All Nippon Airways have 20 Boeing 777-9s on-order.

All Nippon Airways remains the largest airline operating in Japan, the carrier continually expanding with a continually modernised fleet of both narrow-body and wide-body jets which operate a mixture of domestic, regional and long-haul flights.
With it just 2 months into the new year, All Nippon Airways shadow-dropped a large aircraft order on 25th February 2025 with Airbus, Boeing and Embraer all being winners. Whilst Airbus and Embraer scored big with narrow-body jets, Boeing is the big winner with both narrow-body and wide-body jets being ordered.
Starting with Airbus, All Nippon Airways have placed new orders for 14 Airbus A321neos to expand their existing fleet of 22; on top of the 14 Airbus A321neos earmarked for All Nippon Airways, their low-cost subsidiary, Peach Aviation will also receive 10 Airbus A321neos and 3 Airbus A321XLRs.
Going over to Embraer, orders for their next-generation E-Jet E2 series of aircraft continues to slowly gather pace; All Nippon Airways will receive 15 Embraer E190-E2s with options for 5 further examples with deliveries expected to commence from 2028. The order for 15 Embraer E190-E2s replaces the order for 15 Mitsubishi SuperJets that the carrier had on-order before the aircraft programme was cancelled in early-2023.
Lastly with Boeing, All Nippon Airways placed another follow up order for 18 Boeing 787-9s to expand an already large fleet of 44; the 18 Boeing 787-9s are earmarked to be utilised on long-haul international flights to enable their expansion of their Tokyo-Narita hub. The 18 Boeing 787-9s will be fitted with General Electric GEnx-1B engines, a continued shift from a largely Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 fleet. Finally, All Nippon Airways have ordered 8 more Boeing 737 MAX 8s (plus 4 options) which will take the fleet up to 38 which is almost equal to carrier's Boeing 737-800 fleet.
The next couple of years are certainly looking interesting for Japanese commercial aviation and looking forward to seeing how they develop in the future.
Currently, All Nippon Airways operates 86 Boeing 787s, which includes 34 Boeing 787-8s, 44 Boeing 787-9s and 8 Boeing 787-10s. All Nippon Airways have 22 Boeing 787-9s and 6 Boeing 787-10s on-order.
