Herzliches Beileid

Was hilft am besten gegen Trauer Schmerz?

I was not in the mood to take pictures yesterday. Lucky that we went to a movie in the evening, so I got a shot. Me in a mirror in a shop window. Not the best self-portrait, but I like the double reflection.

Pattern: Ribbed Baby Jacket by Debbie Bliss

Yarn: Patons Wool Merino in Bright Red

Needles: Size 8

I loved this pattern! It’s a must knit if you’re looking for something quick and easy. It’s knitted flat, then seamed at the arms and sides. The pattern doesn’t call for any buttons, but I wanted to add some so I added two button holes using the yo, k2tog method to yield two small eyelets. Hope it fits!

WEEK ONE for 52 weeks about U - 2008

My first image for the "52 weeks about U" pool.

This is my "workspace", yes, I know there are TWO computers there........... the one on the left is my PC, it is my 'security blanket' and it has to stay there while I am on this very steep learning curve of getting to know the new MacMonster aka: IMAC!

Have had the IMAC for 4 days and just starting to find my way around it.

On my workspace area you will see:

on the wall:

a drawing from my nephew.

to the left:

the latest Patricia Cornwell book that I have just finished today.

The Alaska for Dummies - my dream holiday, that may eventuate.

my water bottle - water needed to keep the spirits up.

the glass where the spirits usually are!

the photo frame is of my nephew.

my PC monitor with an image of the street in the Macedon Ranges (Victoria) where we have a holiday house.

In front:

my keyboards and my cell phone...... thats in case anyone phones me and I am too lazy to move from my desk to answer the landline!

the new beaut 24 inch IMAC LCD screen. Image on screen is the view I have from the front of our holiday house (and yes, I have PS open)

behind the monitor is the new Adobe Creative Suite box with INSTRUCTIONS so I can learn.. LoL...

Behind the desk:

The hard drive and CD rack sitting on the window ledge.

Blinds are down to keep out the heat and sun....and the glare as we are 18 floors up!

.......and sometimes on the desk on the right, (yes, ON the desk) my little Tenterfield Terrier (Oscar) sits quietly on a blanket as he is now as I type this!

and now about "52 Weeks About U - 2008"

52 Weeks About U is a place where you can post photos about you,

A place where you only have to post 1 photo per week to be able to complete 52 weeks of photos,

This group is about posting photos "about "you it doesn't have to be a self portrait but no objections if that's your style of photography as we are a friendly group of people from all over the world with many different styles and interests.

They have weekly discussions and posting for all 52 weeks.

It is not a mandatory comment group but they do ask you to tag your Photos with what weekly discussion you post into.

This is a group aimed at getting to know each other a little better and hopefully make some new friends,

So why not join in the fun???

I'll start by apologizing for the terrible photo! I did a cookie decorating segment on a local cable channel here in Oklahoma City. It was raining, so I didn't get a good photo before I left and thought the studio lights would be perfect lighting......wrong! But at least you can see the Easter basket message cookie I made. The show was a VERY relaxed atmosphere, compared to the Martha Show! Really fun experience!

The gingham bunnies were inspired by Glory's gingham cookies: www.flickr.com/photos/glorioustreats/7027594647/in/faves-...

This was on the set of the All About You TV set. I made cookie jelly beans and filled one of my wire egg holders with Easter egg cookies!

Continuing with the week's theme "All About You" I decided to photograph books as I love to read. I have loved reading since I was young and have quite a wide range of literary tastes from biographies and autobiographies, to murder novels and the compulsory "chic lit" which is always fun!

Shot on iPhone 4.

Today I'm sticking with the theme of the week, all about you. I've got four stories to match the image - so apologies for the extra long description.

Top Left: Some people who follow my stream on Flickr would know that I was married in France. Specifically, I was married twice (10 days apart) and both times to the same woman. In the photo, the paper is a page my wife gave me in a frame that was taken from the journal we kept during our trip there in 1994. With the best wishes of our family, we went to France to get married. On November 23, 1994, we caught the Metro from our backpackers, dressed for a wedding, to the Australian Embassy to be legally wed (a church wedding isn’t legal in Paris). We went out for dinner at a romantic Parisian restaurant, then went back to our room (with a double bunk) where I proceeded to vomit all night with food poisoning. Ten days later we had a church wedding in Lourmain, Provence. We arrived in Lourmarin the day before – and that feeling of ultimate happiness on seeing how I would marry the girl I wanted to grow old with in such a picturesque towns remains one of the strongest and fondest memories of my life. That night we dined in a restaurant in a 18th century mill – and our wine at dinner was served in this blue bottle. The following day, church community assigned us a best man (who didn’t speak English) and a bridesmaid. The bridesmaid took us back to her home, on a vineyard, for a family lunch. It was the most perfect day.

Top Right: These are some of the colourings I use when icing cakes. I won the cake decorating competitions in my primary school two years in a row (I was eight and nine). Every year for Meg’s birthday, I make a cake that is probably the sort of thing you might see in a competition. It turns me into an utter stress ball – but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I also like to make snide remarks at other kid’s parties to the parents “oh, I see you BOUGHT your child’s birthday cake”. No, it’s not very nice but competitive cake decorating is a tough gig :-)

Bottom Left: Three-and-a-half years ago, facing my 40th birthday, I decided to get fit. A few months later I competed in the Kokoda Challenge – an event in which you hike 96km (60 miles) over mountainous terrain racing the clock. We did it in 22h 48min, started at 7am Saturday and finishing about 6am the next day. As I crossed the line, I sobbed with relief and exhaustion – and happiness that my daughter was there at the finish line to see me do what, up until then, was the hardest physical challenged I had ever faced. When I competed the following year, she made me this string of beads with a bell. She said I should ring the bell to help me stay awake when I was completely exhausted. That year we took a wrong turn and we hiked an extra 10km, which meant our morale was shot. Holding this string of beads my daughter made for me gave me a lift. It’s still on the bag I take to work each day, a year later.

Bottom Right: I was always a reader as a kid, taking a book with me everywhere. I collected a series of classics when I was a young teenager, and fell in love with Charles Dickens and his ability to use words. His wit in Pickwick Papers is a joy – and he wrote that novel as a series of monthly installments as a journalist. It’s because I loved reading that I wanted to be a journalist – and I think Dickens’s style has influenced me as much as anyone.

This quote reflects my thoughts this week.

This school house was moved to Mrs Trusty's family farm long before anyone in the family can remember it happening.

You can tell it's a school as soon as you walk in. There are a few desks left in the rows. They used to be screwed to the floor. In the front is the teacher's podium and chalkboards.

The teacher who taught in this building the first year it was open (more than 100 years ago) could enter many classrooms today and identify all the same components. The school used to be the place children came to "get" knowledge. Now knowledge is easy to get from many other places.

My job is to help new teachers use modern tools in education. Sometimes we use these tools in the classroom and many times we use them outside the classroom.

This is my submission for the "All About You" theme...

There are two things about me here:

1. I'm a techno geek - as Kip says "I love technology...always and forever."

2. I can't draw.

I've had a crazy day at work yesterday, so I've ended up coming home much later than planned. But I did spent my evening the way I had planned, catching up, partly at least, on flickr.

It's almost the end of the "about you" themed week, and after thinking about it for a long time, I decided to share some things about me.

I find it difficult talking to people I don't know, because I'm always afraid I will say something wrong.

I came to Budapest to study (I think it's 8 or so years ago), and went to university for 4 years but never graduated. I dropped out because I had trouble with a couple of linguistics exams.

I love going to museums and art galleries, and regret not choosing art history as a subject at uni, and went with English instead. Still, it's never too late, maybe I'll get to study art history some time in the future.

I'm 29 years old.

Cabled cap sleeved cardigan by Debbie Bliss, available free here. In Filati Fantasia Favorit, 80% wool 20% acrylic.

Couldn't pass up this cute button!

For Miriam Ruth born 27 August. Only 6lb 7oz so at 3 month size she's got a bit of growing before she'll fit this!

'cause we're all about you

and the world you promise

I want to share this with you: My life is going through some big changes right now. God is changing my life for good and I am on my way! The road is ahead and I am not walking alone, my family and God are with me. And when I get there I'll be happy and I would've found my purpose in life. I trust this to be true. I have faith it is.
