Build update on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Successfully cast a work copy and final of the base for the Space Jocky - the sculpt I was working on a week or so ago. In the image you will see the original Monster Clay sculpt to the left, the mold to the right (54 ounces OUCH but I want a heavy base for this), the work cast (which I will use to sculpt the chair on) top center and the final cast (which will be cleaned and painted for the final piece) middle bottom. I will cast a non-colored master which will be archived for later use if needed. So next we begin the chair! #spacejockey #nostromo #alien #hrgiger #smoothon #moldingcasting #diorama

Nostromo Build Update - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Update to the Ladderwell and Ladder. So I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the ladderwell build. I'm having to clean up seam lines, block in interiors all before molding and casting the piece. Last night I began building the ladder itself and what I thought was going to become an arduous task actually turned out quite simple. Just fused two pieces of sheet styrene together, plotted cut lines and with the help of my dremel tool, and xacto blade and sandpaper I have a pretty sturdy ladder which holds the custom figures quite well. Next up, the floor and my first ceiling build! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎ladderwell‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎ripley‬ ‪#‎starship‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎styrene‬

Sculpt update on the Nostromo panel wall and portal. ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the portal! The sculpt needs to be cleaned up a little then it's off to a mold bath. The wall panel sculpt is 95% complete although it's lacking a little sculpted detail here and there. The rest is greeblie work which if you look closely you can see I added tubes through the seams. A little more detail needed and it will be ready to be replicated as well. There's pipes/wiring that will have to be added separately for each wall panel I cast as it wouldn't translate effectively through the replication process. ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎corridor‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎sculpting‬ ‪#‎avesfixitsculpt‬ ‪#‎avesstudio

Sculpt update on the Alien Warrior - 1:18 scale - ALIENS 86. Completed the small scaled head sculpt of the Alien Warrior. The first attempt had the head too wide, the second was too short in length....the third though is just right smile emoticon The lower jaw is a borrowed cast from my ALIEN79 beastie. I plan to create some variants similar to the 79 version. Now - back to sculpting the upper torso and plenty of head sculpts that need to be painted. ‪#‎aliens‬ ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎warrior‬ ‪#‎queen‬ ‪#‎hive‬ ‪#‎sculpture‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎monsterinthebasement‬

Sculpt update on "Sleeping Ripley" and Jonesy the Cat - ALIEN 79 - Nostromo 1:18 scale.

I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to work on this piece last week but from what progress I've made, I'm hoping that I can complete both sleeping versions of Ripley - one for the Nostromo Sleep Chamber and the other for the Narcissus by the end of the weekend.

For this update, I've attached the upper arms/shoulders to the torso, as well as sculpted the boxers each crew member wears while in their pod. Next step will be the lower arms, sculpting the hands, then fitting the figure properly into the pod. No progress yet on the Narcissus version but that will change after tonight's session.

May sound a little silly seeing that many consider these current projects as "customs" ...but I've treated these static sculpt projects as if they were classical studies. I'm usually sculpting monsters or alien bodies so sculpting the human form is a real treat. Especially the female form which I consider a challenge.

...and Jonesy the cat. I completed the sculpt of him in a sitting pose a couple years back. Next will be a standing pose featuring a ball jointed neck and a sleeping version of Jonesy all curled up that will fit in both sleep chambers along with Ripley! I plan to do one additional variant of Jonesy hissing!!

Quick update I know - more to come, promise. Had some fun with the camera this time around on some of the shot. Just found them interesting. #alien #ripley #jonesthecat #jonesy #nostromo #alien79 #sigourneyweaver #sleepchamber #humanform #sculpting #art

Sculpt update on "the Beast" - Alien 79 rework of the creatures head sculpt.

Working on some updates to the skull, the maxilla's depth, the teeth and a new lower jaw. The teeth are all being sculpted similar to the fashion of the larger egg layer xenomorph I've posted updates to recently. The size of this piece is considerably smaller than the egg layer so rather than the teeth being sculpted separately, the entire set is a single piece. I have more work to do with the lower jaw, it's teeth along with details to the "lips" if you can call them that . I'm making molds of each of these small pieces as I go along. Very fragile and I don't want to have to sculpt these pieces over again if I can help it. I'm using Aves FIXIT sculpt so it has strength but even at this scale, it can break easily.

More to come - gotta take one project at a time as I slowly get back into a routine that's been off course now for almost a year. It's not been easy to do. Just need to get along with it.

Thanks for looking!

Sculpt update on H.R. Giger's Space Jockey - 1:18 scale, ALIEN (1979).

Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt - a two-part epoxy. Find out more about this material at Aves Clay

In my last update, I spoke of how I needed to strip away a portion of my sculpt to make more room in the back of the Space Jockey for additional detail. I think my last video update showed the area I "dremeled" away.

For this update, I have successfully sculpted the portions that were previously removed, adding more detail than before and this time bringing the sculpt further out, making room for the new detail that has also begun to take residence in the back of the sculpture. Two tubes have been added as well as a build-out between the two where the next set up tubes will go. This offset is accurate to the production photos I have studied from the set.

Next step is to sculpt the backpack behind the head, neck and shoulders. An enormous amount of biomechanical detail in this area alone so it should be fun! Just waiting on my latest FIXIT order from Aves Studio which should be here sometime this week.

Sorry for the absence of updates over the past month. Life turned the volume up a bit and I had to step away from the workbench to turn it back down. Nothing serious, which I'm thankful for. Speaking of being thankful, I hope all my American friends had a great Thanksgiving!

Thanks for all the continued interest! Hoping you all are staying safe and healthy. More updates to come! ❤

Sculpt progress of the Nostromo Crew/Sleep Chamber - ALIEN79 - 1:18 scale. Work in progress.

With only small details needed to complete the sleeping Kane figure, I have continued the sculpt work on Ash. I have finished building the figure out from head to foot. I need to adjust the position of the figure inside the chamber before I fill in the knees. I have formed the lower arms and hands using Aves FIXIT which I will define and detail out later today.

The third crew member will be Lambert. I have a cast of Lambert's upper torso from her standard crew figure(created earlier) which I will dremel down and sculpt her body.

Hope you enjoyed the update! More to come!

Sculpt progress on the Newborn. Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale.

With the sculpt of the ALIENS(86) Queen in progress, I thought it would be fun to match her up with her future offspring thanks to Ripley 8 (going to have to be a fan to know what I'm talking about) and get a look at the scale. Once the lower jaw of the Queen is complete I will get a better idea but so far I think both scale pretty well with one another and enhances my hopes to one day have a Resurrection diorama featuring the "Birth of the Newborn". Till then, both stands on their own and both have a ton of work to have down before that road is crossed.

This update focuses in on the Newborn and it's open mouth variant I'm working on. My previous update featured the jaw wired into place. This week I'm sculpting in the gaps and detailing the optional tongue that will be held by a magnet.

From some of the early production images, the tongue appeared to have "buds" over its surface...possibly glads for smell and taste. A trait from Ripley's side of the family for sure. So I'm taking a blank tongue I formed using Aves FIXIT sculpt and detailing it with small portions of additional FIXIT forming the buds. The entire surface isn't covered in these glads so I need to pay attention as to not overdo the surface with these things LOL!

I know the Newborn doesn't get a ton of love from the Alien community but I must admit, it's been one of my more enjoyable projects over the past year or so...and I think it's because of the fusion between the human and the xenomorph. You get to work with a little of both when sculpting this guy....at least I don't have to sculpt a TAIL! LOL! That Queen though...the tail will be a major project in itself.

Hope you enjoyed the update. Any questions, let me know. Everything you see has been hand sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt - a two-part epoxy that can be found here
