10/21/2020 - Lakewood, Illinois
A Lakewood home was deemed a complete loss after a fire caused it to partially collapse and sustain $350,000 in damage, Crystal Lake fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire-Rescue Department responded around 9:13 a.m. Wednesday to the 7100 block of Inverway Drive in Lakewood for a report of a structure fire.
Several 911 callers reported the house was well-involved in flames from the second floor.
Firefighters arrived and confirmed heavy fire conditions, according to Crystal Lake Deputy Fire Chief Chris Olsen.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated for additional assistance and firefighters initiated defensive operations due to the amount of fire and instability of the structure, Olsen said.
The residence was unoccupied because it was undergoing renovations. The structure partially collapsed during the blaze.
Olsen said the fire was declared under control at 11:04 a.m., just under two hours after firefighters arrived. The loss was estimated at $350,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but Olsen said it is not believed to be suspicious.
There were no civilian injuries reported but one firefighter sustained a minor injury at the scene.
The Lakewood and Crystal Lake police departments, as well as firefighters from Algonquin, Barrington-Countryside, Cary, Elgin, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda-Rural, Union, Spring Grove, Wauconda, West Dundee, and Wonder Lake assisted at the scene. The Salvation Army also provided assistance.

There are some who just don't get the Fourth Plinth project. Probably thinks the project is a form of evil.
Feel free to print this and place it on all your doors and windows. Better than any alarm system.

Bush Dogs are very common and important to Papua New Guinea villages. They are an alarm system and even perform defensive functions. They are definitely wilder than their western domesticated counter parts, often mating with wild dogs.
After my house was broken into and all of my worldly possessions stolen, I made this alarm system. This way, I would wake up if someone came into my house while I was sleeping. Strange logic?

For 20 years the big security and burglar alarm monitoring companies have been using a technology called "Autodial". This technology allows a burglar alarm system to call their monitoring centre to inform of a break-in, the alarm monitoring centre then calls you to confirm the alarm activation, and then you/they decide to take the appropriate action.........nothing wrong with that I hear you say!!!
Well..... this external burglar alarm system monitoring service can cost anywhere from £150 - £500 per year, on top of the price of the burglar alarm itself and no doubt an installation and setup fee too. But there is now a fantastic alternative that offers you (the consumer) the same if not Better level of protection Without any monthly or yearly subscriptions, fees or contracts. The thing is, the big burglar alarm system companies don’t want you to know about it, so shhhh.
Across the country there is a handful of independent burglar alarm companies including www.EasyAlarms.co.uk that are offering "Autodial" burglar alarm systems but without a monitoring contract. Instead you simply program your mobile phone, office or neighbours telephone numbers into the burglar alarm system. If your burglar alarm system is activated by a burglar you get Directly contacted instantly by your autodial burglar alarm system. The autodial burglar alarm system will simply plug straight into your existing landline and will not effect any other telephony equipment like answer machines etc. If you havnt got a landline then these autodial burglar alarm systems are also available with built in GSM utodial sim card options utilising the mobile phone network to contact you, perfect for rural buildings, holiday homes, boats etc.
What’s more is, most of these independent firms including wwwEasyAlarms.co.uk sell a good selection of easy to fit wireless autodial burglar alarm systems, thus avoiding the need to pay for an expensive installation team too. All in all you could save yourself a small fortune whilst still receiving the top level of security. Simple "Autodial" home alarms can be purchased for as little as £29.99 with top of the range easy to install wireless autodial systems with added fire alerts direct to your mobile from only £199.99. www.easyalarms.co.uk/

1/17/21 - Wonder Lake, Illinois
An occupant was found dead inside a home following an extra-alarm fire Saturday evening near Wonder Lake, authorities said.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:13 p.m. Saturday to the 8000 block of West Route 120 in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a structure fire.
The sheriff’s office received several 911 calls from people passing by that saw a house on fire, according to Wonder Lake Fire Chief Mike Weber.
Firefighters arrived and found the east side of the residence engulfed in flames that were approximately 10 feet above the roof, Weber said.
The blaze had extended from the first floor to the second floor of the residence and the home quickly became heavily engulfed in fire.
“We tried to make contact with any homeowners, everything was locked up and were unable to get inside,” Weber said.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the second alarm level to bring additional firefighters and water tenders to the scene due to a lack of fire hydrants.
Firefighters pulled a hose line to extinguish the fire while other firefighters attempted to do an immediate search.
The heat inside the home was around 1,600 degrees and firefighters were unable to get inside.
The homeowner was initially unaccounted for and firefighters later located a deceased person inside the residence. An autopsy is being scheduled by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
The blaze caused approximately $300,000 in damage and left the home a total loss.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature but it is under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Pick up any newspaper with an article about public concerns and the subject of crime usually tops the list. It’s therefore surprising that homeowners and building contractors often don’t use the services of a professional locksmith to analyze security needs for their properties. For example, the most common practice in new home construction is to piecemeal the security precautions-using one company to set up an alarm system, an electrician to hook up outdoor lighting for crime prevention, and carpenters perhaps to install low–grade locks and door hardware almost as an afterthought. Often critical options such as door frame structure, door reinforcement or floor safes aren’t even thought of in time to incorporate those into the original building process.
“There are almost 10,000 members of the Associated Locksmiths of America-a number of which are certified locksmiths-available to builders, business owners and homeowners to ensure the physical safety of their property and, most important, their employees and families,” says Robert E. Mock, ALOA’s president. “It’s puzzling that owners make such substantial investments in their homes and businesses without taking care to secure them intelligently.” The issue is more significant than just correct installation techniques. A qualified locksmith can make recommendations on what physical and electronic systems need to be chosen in the first place.
Today, the security marketplace is flooded with options often unknown to those in fields outside locksmithing. Even a vendor in a related industry who is aware of a new security product is unlikely to have the judgment or qualifications of a highly trained and experienced locksmith. Mock also cites concern about the growing number of companies that are only aware of, and trained in, a narrow portion of security service. “More and more, we are seeing companies marketing themselves as security providers who have minimal exposure to the security industry as a whole. Especially with the rapid onset of electronic security in common applications, we are running into more individuals who have negligible training in physical security–they have learned overnight to install something that they do not really understand, and they have little or no background in deciding whether the product choice is appropriate for a particular application. Often they are employed by companies that only make or produce one product; therefore it is unlikely that a comprehensive security analysis is going to take place for the customer.

Unsure if it had something to do with the fire alarm system but they appeared to be checking for something.
Honeyguide Foundation, with critical support from The Nature Conservancy, has created a unique, four-step elephant alarm system to protect a villager’s food source without harming the elephant.
Step three involves throwing a "chili cloud" — chili powder mixed with sand and a lit firecracker inside of a condom — near where the elephant is grazing.
This alarm system does not harm the elephant, it just make the elephant uncomfortable enough to turn around.
