That's right. 80's hair band montage. Love it. We went to Alamo Drafthouse's Monsters of Rock Sing-along and it was fantastic as usual!
We rocked out with our blow up air guitars to A/C D/C, Guns & Roses, Poison, Aerosmith, Twisted Sister, etc. Oh Hell yea. Soon to be ... 90's sing-a-long!!!
A panorama from 20 years ago. All the businesses on this corner are gone. Alamo is still around in other locations, but now owned by Sony. This skyline no longer exists.
One of several "Alamo Drafthouse Theatres" around Austin, TX. This is the recently changed location for the downtown one. They refurbished an old theatre on 6th Street, that had gone through many iterations since it's heyday as a movie theatre in the 30's. It's served as a number of bars/live music venues since the 60's, gradually deteriorating more and more until this renovation by the Alamo owners. Alamo Drafthouse serves beer, alcohol, and a full menu of food to the audience as movies play. Great idea...fun place.

A portrait of Kansas City's renaissance can be seen quite clearly in this one image.
Ten years ago, the Streetcar was just a dream, the Power and Light District to the left was just opening, and the renovation on the theater on the right had just completed, after years of neglect. Now, the scene on a Saturday night was nothing but hustle & bustle as bar-goers, theater attendees, a wedding reception, and countless other activities kept the area going.
Regarding the theater, you can read of it's star-studded past, decline and rebirth here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainstreet_Theater
