Au début du XIIème siècle, alors que la rivière sert de
frontière entre le royaume de France sur sa rive droite
et l’Empire sur sa rive gauche, Trévoux est mentionné
comme péage fluvial. Un château au donjon octogonal,
une enceinte avec l’une de ses portes, plusieurs tours
et un quartier ancien rappellent l’origine médiévale de
Trévoux.
L’indépendance politique de la principauté de Dombes,
en marge du royaume, favorise le développement
économique, technique et culturel de Trévoux
A Gorrevod, le château n’existe plus. Il semble déjà ruiné en 1650. Il a été démoli en 1773 et ses matériaux ont servi à construire, 200 m à l’ouest, la ferme dite du château."
