The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is home to the oldest trees in the world, Bristlecone Pines. Some of these living trees exceed 4000 years of age and exhibit spectacular growth forms of twisted and beautifully colored wood as seen here.
At 10pm the clouds closed up in the sky and the rain started pouring down, and after 3 straight days of shooting I nestled in for a much needed nights rest. I made dinner and turned in for the night. At 12am the clouds broke and I rolled back out of bed and hit the road up to Schulman grove towards the Discovery Trail. My shot window was to be at 11:45 so I was already past my primary alignment time but I had been trying to get this tree with the Milky Way behind it for some time. I guess you could say that it was my big white whale and I was Ahab. I would have my ancient beast, rain or shine. This tree is super skinny when shot from the side so I was forced into this composition by necessity and I couldn't budge one more foot to the left because I wanted the wide perspective. I should have done a panorama but I was suffering from serious sleep deprivation and staggered my way back to the car semi happy with my nights bounty.
It's been 5 months since I've had a photo explored and I am getting quite downtrodden. If you like this photo please leave a comment and maybe together we can change that. I have also updated my Bio info in my profile so please go in a take a look. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Hopefully, "I'll get by with a little help from my friends."

Fishing you a happy Wednesday. If you have a fish pun, let minnow in your comments. I should probably scale back the puns.
From Alfred, "Holy mackerel! You want fish puns? That's one whale of a request Captain Ahab, as you sit high and mighty on your perch. And I've got betta things to do, so you can kiss my bass!"
From John, "Please don't eat me - I'm a pacifish grinning face with smiling eyes . A fishcious presentation !"

Elijah Announces a Great Drought
17 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.”
Old Captain Ahab's got nothing on me.
Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished with Topaz Studio 2.0 and Lightroom Classic.
The ride starts on Christmas Day. Captain Ahab won't be seen on deck at first. Only on the open sea, he comes on deck at first. Only on the open sea, he comes out of his cabin and explains to the crew in pathetic words the true destination of the voyage: he wants to hunt down and kill Moby Dicke, the white whale who tore off his leg...
Darf ich vorstellen: Käpt'n Ahab, eines meiner Haustiere.. :-D
(May I introduce: Käpt'n Ahab, one of my pets.. :-D)
Captain Ahab frantically sharpening what would become the deadly tip of his harpoon. It would indeed kill, but not the elusive white whale. Leica M8, Elmar (collapsible) 50/2.8.
Rain in Fruita, Colorado forced us to move our trip to Moab, Utah. This was taken somewhere along the HyMasa / Captain Ahab trail. I've never been so wet and dirty, but had so much fun as I did that trip.
"False Depth of Field" is a qualification that Ahab Abdel-Aziz used to describe one of my images. I took his description and restructured it as a prompt to achieve output in our project "Infinite Layering".

No idea whether he really has just one leg, or just likes to use only one?
Ik heb geen idee of dit uiltje een pootje mist, of dat hij het gewoon leuk vindt om op 1 pootje te zitten.

Day 6 of my "30 Second Life Vehicles in 30 Days Challenge"
I've regularly flown and sailed past the Leviathan Skeleton in the Ahab's Haunt region of Second Life: maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ahab's%20Haunt/114/160/22. Fellow aviators and sailors will readily recognise this arguably iconic Second Life location.
Having already mentioned my enjoyment of SL seaplanes; this image shows my PBY-5A Catalina by Spijkers & Wingtips (with customised paint) having just landed in one of the several ocean regions near the Leviathan. This is quite a good blog post about the region: sammie1154.wordpress.com/2014/08/30/the-leviathan-skeleto...
Just as in real life when you visit popular attractions, I've been photo-bombed by some random person. This was either a bot or someone who was AFK but him standing on the nose of the skeleton provides an indication of scale.
Call me Ishmael.
I read Moby Dick last year while I was doing my forestry course and read most of it either in the woods or beside the road while waiting for lifts to the various sites.
It cast a strange spell on me and it is often on my mind, as is the sea. Anyway all this seems to tie in with my recent sea scapes and collages ...
After the Pantheon, Captain Ahab has one whale left. The Rodin Museum at Samsung Plaza in downtown Seoul by Kohn Pedersen Fox did not disappoint. This is a beautiful glass jewel that is a gorgeous parasite growing from the base of a Samsung Headquarters building in Seoul. The Rodin sculptures in here aren't exactly bad either.
These characters in the photo are geniuses by the way. A humbling time spent with them!
I titled this image “The Waiting”, I decided to process this image as a black and white to give the portrait a more dramatic appeal. The subjects beard reminded me of Captain Ahab from the novel “Moby Dick”. I envisioned Ahab watching over the bow of the Pequod in search of his nemeses Moby Dick.
AHOY!
Today's cruise is long, but FAST! You'll be on a strong tack for most of the route with lots of space around you. We'll go from as far east as we can get in Second Norway, west to the Blake, up north through the coastal waterway, south into Dire Strait, then around Ahab's Haunt and home to the PRYC.
*** If you find this cruise long or have a slow boat, go to Waypoint 21 (Merrs), then just head south two sims and east into PRYC, avoiding the lap around the Dire Strait.
Boats: Anything works! If you want to foil in an IMOCCA or Flying Shadow, this is the route for you!
Hazards -- The first few kilometers are through the channels of Second Norway. Watch out for sim corners at the begi

1 Kings 19 : 1 - 2
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
Cove is a village in the Scottish Borders ,18 miles northwest of the Scotland/England border.
It is about 36 miles southeast of Edinburgh and 8 miles from Dunbar. The beach and historic harbour
can only reached by walking through a tunnel carved out of the cliffside.
The harbour we see today was founded by Sir John Hall of Dunglass in 1752.
. . . My daughter has dubbed my search for a Snowy Owl in Muskegon as Captain Ahab looking for his elusive white whale! Well, I found him today, although he didn't do me in (just yet!).
I knew this was a large bird as I saw him fly from about 1/4 mile away and he looked as large as an eagle! This was taken from 150-200 yards away at full zoom (400 mm). He flew up to a retaining wall on one of the large waste water ponds when a car got too close and scared him.
Have a great 2016 Flickr and Facebook friends!
