Swissnex Brazil hosted the Ag Tech Valley event on innovation in agriculture with a focus on themes with potential synergy with Switzerland, such as smart farming, forest management, and sustainability. The program included presentations by entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors that make up the local innovation ecosystem in the city of Piracicaba, state of São Paulo. The event was part of the schedule of the Swiss delegation that accompanied the Swiss Minister of Economy, Johann Schneider-Ammann, who visited Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay in April 2018.

072122 - Agriculture Day with Leadership Huntsville
We had a wonderful Agriculture Reboot Day yesterday! 🚜 🌽 🍑 We began the day at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and heard from their team about their Center for Plant Science and Sustainable Agriculture and their new AgTech Accelerator. We also got to tour their brand new, state-of-the-art greenhouse. We then traveled to the Tennessee Valley Research Extension to hear from their team. They are doing some fascinating research!
Up next was a tour of the only cotton gin left in Limestone County, the Associated Growers Co-Op Inc Browns. The impact this gin has on our local area is huge! Our final stop was at Isom's Orchard where we heard from the owner, Wes Isom, about the history of their farmland and some of the challenges local farmers are currently facing. Thank you to Chris Becker at the Limestone County Alabama Extension Office for helping coordinate this day!

This projects theme was morphing. I chose to explore the idea of agriculture against industry while at the same time, looking at agriculture as an industry. I merged a more organic copper with wheat forms pressed into them with nickel plates by rivets which to me represent a pattern of industry. On top, there is a barn cast in copper with a wood fence that turns to a barbed wire fence that turns into a tall chain link fence that surrounds a high rise building with a large satellite dish on top. (Approx 18" high)

In between my day job and photography I dabble in a small farming operation. This year I added GPS steering to my tractor which gave me some extra time up and down the field. These shots are taken from the seat of my tractor in motion. These will be the first shots from my pocket camera, a Nikon P330. Enjoy the action shots.
