Headed out to watch and agility competition, and take some photos while doing it. It was a gorgeous day, and the dogs and handlers were all amazing.

I was fully expecting to have many challenges in getting off shots, with the speed and movements of the dogs. And yes...this in itself was hard, but to add to the challenge, spectators had to be a certain distance from the fences (so all my shots were shot through the metal fence). This left me with no other option to use manual focus with these speedy guys. The of course there where the thick poles at the break of the fences, and since the fence was low, the dogs that jumped the highest were amny times lost in the top bar of the fence. There were also competitors and participants walking in the area between the spectators and the ring.

So, as a result, the shots were very difficult to take, and I made attempts at trying to blur the fence through camera speeds, and distance between the fence and the dog on the other side. Needless to say, none of these are great shots..but fun none the less (and I had fun taking them.

Sunday Jumpers - RAT NADAC June 2013 at Argus Ranch

I attended the 52nd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, held December 2 to 11, 2010 at the Thomas and Mack in Las Vegas.

The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is the championship event for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s rodeo year.

The 2010 Wrangler NFR Tie-Down Ropers were 13-Tuf Cooper, 14-Ryan Jarrett, 27-Stran Smith, 29-Jerome Schneeberger, 30-Shane Hanchey, 32-Trent Creager, 36-Tyson Durfey, 38-Cody Ohl, 40-Clint Cooper, 55-Fred Whitfield, 62-Scott Kormos, 64-Joseph Parsons, 73-Clif Cooper, 74-Jerrad Hofstetter, and 1-Trevor Brazile.

Tie-down roping is a true partnership event between the cowboy and his horse. Tie-downing roping was formally known as calf roping.

Tie-down Ropers start from the roping box, they are required to give the calf a predetermined head start, and there is a ten second penalty of the cowboy breaks the barrier. As soon as the cowboy ropes the calf, the horse stops, the cowboy dismounts and sprints towards the calf. The cowboy then flanks the calf, ties any three legs together with a piggin string (a short, looped rope the cowboy holds in his teeth during the run), the horse is keeps slack out of the rope by backing up but, needs to avoid dragging the calf. Once the cowboy when he is done with the tie, throws his hands in the air to stop the clock, the cowboy then walks back to his horse, remounts, and rides forward to put slack in the rope. The cowboy then waits six seconds to see if the calf remains tied, to make the time official. If the calf does not remain tied, the cowboy receives a no time.

Tie-down roping requires timing, speed, agility, strength, and a highly trained horse. This event began with informal contests between cowboys on ranches of the Old West. Calves that were sick or injured needed to be roped and quickly immobilized for treatment, cowboys often worked alone and he had to depend on his horse.

I would like to the Thomas and Mack, the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), the Cowboys and Cowgirls, the stock contractors, and the fans for their support of rodeo.

Come join me for ten days of rides, the wrecks, and the unforgettable moments of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Let’s Ride!!

Spent a day at a local dog agility show taking photos. Not as easy as it may seem: even when you know where the dog is supposed to be, focusing on a fast moving dog was tricky. Not to mention the caravans, other agility equipment and people in the background....

Fans got to meet Agilities, KariV, Logix, Kellex, Beast, Nevix, and Surefour at The Source in Toronto Eaton Centre for our first official meet & greet of 2020!
