The magpie heading for the pelican again. The pelican soon swam away.
Australian magpies often swoop and attack people and other animals during the breeding season. Cyclists and joggers are at particular risk from aggressive magpies. I had seen a magpie in nearby small park chase off two wood ducks but I had never seen the magpie on the mudflat let alone harassing a pelican. What surprised me too is that I often spend time in the small park and magpies will come within a metre of me and show no aggression.
These guys were chasing or challenging each other and a third for over an hour. I had to add some to the top of the image as they just jumped out of the frame.
Explore Nov 23/08 ..Mute Swan (view large) The chase is on, keeping others away from its mate. Can get quite vicious. Adults of this large swan range from 125 to 170 cm (49-67 in) long with a 200-240 cm (79-95 in) wingspan. They may stand over 1.2 m (4 ft) tall on land. Males are larger than females and have a larger knob on their bill. The Mute Swan is one of the heaviest flying birds, with males (known as cobs) averaging about 12 kg (27 lbs) and females (known as "pens") more than 8 kg (19 lbs). IMG_0787
The bear on the left is a female, that was being pursued by the male bear on the your right. The female decided to chase the male away, and chased him by a group of photographers just out of the frame on the left. To say they were startled is an understatement. Suddenly the male bear thought, "Hey, why am I running" and turned at the instant this image was taken. Lake Clark NP, Alaska while staying at my favorite lodge, Silver Salmon. I took this several years ago but when visiting this year I was paid a great compliment. Belle, the guide from the group just out of the frame, was showing the picture so some people, looked at me and said, yes, this is yours!
I recently traveled throughout four central European countries. Everywhere there were signs like this demonstrating the outrage against the illegal Putin-led Russian invasion against Ukraine. This one is from Prague in the Czech Republic.

The feathers on its throat (hackles) are longer than in other species and together with its white irises, it is these features that distinguish it from the Australian Crow which is typically smaller.
The Raven is found in eastern, southern and central Australia and lives in all habitat types except for the more arid areas.
Its body measures 46 -53cm (18 -21 inches) in length with a wingspan of 100cm (39 inches). It has an all-black plumage, beak and mouth as well as strong grey-black legs and feet.
It is omnivorous though it eats more meat than smaller crows.
It is a peaceful bird showing no aggression towards humans or other birds without reason.

This is at first sight a photograph showing aggression but the upper birds mouth was full of apple and the lower bird was taking some this happened several times as I watched . I know they some times pass berries between each other and wonder if this is an extension of this behavior .
Good Friday morning everyone, and as always hoping a great day and weekend will be had by all.
The people who knew this species warned me of there aggression and had found out first hand here, and they move pretty quickly.
It was a great experience and a lifer and well worth the effort it took to find them.
Have a great Father's Day to all.

This character sits and watches the humming bird feeder and chases away the others.
Humming-bird activity around the feeders has turned into a game of hide-and-seek among the other visitors .
I love observing behavior in nature. Be it loving, comical, savage or thoughtful, those are my favorite images. Here's one taken of one snail kite attacking from the bottom to steal another's snail. It wasn't successful but a valiant effort. There is something to be said for taking the high ground, or in this case, sky.
This lake or pond has a large flock of mute swans. They are not native to California or the US, and I have never seen them before in the San Francisco Bay Area. I wonder where they came from.

Not sure who this is, but the pose is fantastic. Obviously, I shouldn't come any closer than this... Really made my day! (Squirrels-2021-8015.jpg)
but they are learning to get along. ...and intensely curious of each other.
curiosity and interest is far better than aggression. We humans could learn that at a world level

The pair of muskrats that live along the shore of our small lake have been extra active over the last few weeks here in northeastern Colorado, and they are extra-territorial, chasing all other comers of any size that are encroaching on their side of the lake!
This crab got just a little too close to the colony for this protective Skimmer's comfort. In the end the Crab went to ground and no one was the worse for wear.
Do you think someone needs to order me to decapitate the evil people? No need! I am alienated anyway, I feel enraged with a massive sense of wrong, I do no longer reflect and be hesitant because I have got certainty now! I deeply believe in the pap of far-right propaganda. I have got my grievance and I know what the prompt remedy is! If you are a liberal or a communist or whatever, your head is no longer safe! You enemies of mine have not understood that my violence is not just the "relief of my aggression" - it is much more than that. Violence is the acting out of my truth, it is part of my liturgy, and it confirms my faith.
Two Trumpeter Swans flew into Potter Marsh and all was well until a third showed up and then the sparks flew. I heard the action and up came the camera to capture it. Here the aggressive swan tries to bite the leg of one who is trying to flee. The original pair flew off and eventually the third one did as well.
Taken 25 May 2022 at Potter Marsh, Anchorage, Alaska.
