A dump truck is raising its box, about to unload aggregate at a construction project on the east side of the 200 block of North Broadway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The sidewalk vaults ("hollow sidewalks" - open space beneath the sidewalks) are being filled with aggregate, because of the age and condition of the iron beams that supported the sidewalk.
The aggregate will be spread out by a skidsteer loader and hand shovels, then compacted with a plate compactor.

One of the many fascinating Pacific Ocean plants on display at the Monterey Aquarium. I've always wanted to visit this place. The photo doesnt do this plant justice, not easy getting the right sharpness with such a high ISO. Of course the best way is to bring a tripod... but wouldn't i look ridiculous walking around with a tripod at an Aquarium.

The volcanic rock that shields the shoreline here and there probably dates back to a time before humans reached the islands. Some of it seems to have come from the ground, while other pieces probably tumbled down from the steep slopes just to the right of this view, above what now is a paved, two-land roadway, complete with tunnels here and there to cut though stretches of mountain reaching down to the water, maybe 100m in distance at most. Most segments are straight but at least one is bored in an arc to fit the coastal contour.
Some years ago somebody designed, budgeted, and brought to completion a walking path of poured cement and steps, where required, along the way, together with access to roadside parking lots. There were few people on the trail during this afternoon, but some were at the intermittent rocky beaches or relaxing on the grassy areas between parking area and steps leading down to the sea.
