A couple of minutes before the bank of cloud put the lights out, 66047 is seen leading the 6M20 10:37 Whatley to St Pancras train of aggregate hoppers through Great Cheverell. The train is formed of HOA wagons carrying a mix of DB Schenker, EWS Construction and Cemex liveries. 25/02/16.
Running 87 minutes early, 59101 Village of Whatley and 59005 Kenneth J Painter head up the fast line with 0F59 Westbury Down Yard to Leeds Balm Road.
Thornton Quarry is one of the largest aggregate quarries in the world, located in Thornton, Illinois just south of Chicago. The quarry is 1.5 miles (2.5 km) long, 0.5 miles (1 km) wide, and 450 feet (137.16 m) deep at its deepest point. Gallagher Asphalt Corporation has been operating on the grounds of the quarry since 1928. A dryland dike carries Interstate 80/Interstate 294/Tri-State Tollway over the quarry.
60029 is pictured approaching Wandsworth Common station with 6O15 1201 Willesden DCR Sidings to Chessington South loaded aggregates working. At last the trees are showing some signs of autumn!
With 18 loaded MBA box wagons in tow, EWS 60096 was recorded passing Toton with the 6E52 10:08 Peak Forest to Peterborough aggregates.

An aggregates train led by clean Re 6/6 620-036 "Vernier-Meyrin" exits the Obere Entschigtal Galerie on the high level of track at Wassen, just uphill from the Command Post.

Quite a rare shot of two Aggregate Industries Dippers pictured side by side. 59005 is seen shunting wagons and passing the stabled 59002.

I thought it might be interesting to capture this once a week working of loaded aggregate from Neath Abbey Wharf to Pengam sidings (6B75) seen at Pengam Junction, Cardiff, headed by GBRf 66750. It is interesting to note that the line to Cardiff Tidal sidings, Celsa steel works and Cardiff docks has been reduced to a single track since I was last here though it does branch further along.

A tranquil Arun this week reveals much peak-level debris from storm activity waterside at Ford.
In sight of the South Downs a resplendent Cl59/0 59005 labours 6068 Westbury-Crawley loaded aggregates over the crossing about an hour late as a result of track trespass around nearly Hilsea.
There is much appeal for less close-in studies of the Coastway at Ford to include Ship & Anchor Marina although the distant South Downs panorama will inevitably be 'lost behind the train'.

It mus be a Year or 18 months since this lavish bridge opened and there still no sign of the cycle way between here & Wharf Road Wormley, with only a hole in the fence, giving access to Fairfield Drive!!!!
Although synonymous for passenger services, Clapham Junction also sees regular freight traffic. One such flow is 4Y19 12:19 Mountfield Sidings - Southampton Western Docks, pictured on 05/7/2016 with 66714 "Cromer Lifeboat" in charge.

Aggregate Industries-liveried, DB Cargo-operated Class 59/0 Co-Co diesel-electric locomotive No. 59002 named "Alan J Day", complete with '30 years' badge, passes through Romsey Station in Hampshire with empty aggregate wagons, en route from Chichester to Merehead Quarry on 18th May 2017.

DB red 60017 is seen here descending the 1 in 104 grade towards Melksham as it passes Lacock with the 6C48 14:59 Appleford to Whatley train of empty aggregate box wagons.
Although the locomotive was nominally the designated Westbury out-based shunt locomotive, traction shortages meant that this was its third consecutive day out on the mainline with this working. 29/07/16.
In its Aggregates Industries livery, GBRf Class 66 66711 -'Sence' was passing over Long Preston Beck as it was heading Northbound with the 17.15 Clitheroe to Carlisle Yard Cement (6C00) on April 15th 2022.
As 56081 sits silently in the headshunt, 66764 sit gurgling away to itself as its rake of re-purposed coal hoppers are loaded with aggregates. There seems to be a lot of waiting involved being a driver on these turns. This would form the 6E17 19:52 Peak Forest Cemex Gbrf to Stourton Cemex Gbrf, some 5 hours aftrer this shot was taken.
