Ethiopian singer Minyeshu knows how to give a show. She and her band performed at Dunya in May.

I also met hellobo (his shots) and renerotterdam (his shots).

Taken on a cloudy day, around 8PM, only with stagelights, so no flash. From one of the first series of shots with my new -still very usable when highly sensitive- 1D MkIII (more on that soon). Taken with ISO 2000 (!).

Hat off to patisfaction who introduced me to the fun of shooting hairtime

Ezrom Legae is a South African sculptor and painter whose work is a painful commentary of life under a system of racial discrimination.

With her magnificent work of art - specifically batik art on fabric. In this piece she has showcased the Osun festival that takes place annually in Osun State, Nigeria.

The city of Osogbo is the capital of Osun state in Nigeria. The city is home to some fascinating artists and I was very fortunate to meet some of them and photograph them. This week I will be bringing pictures from the awesome artists of Osogbo and I am hoping you will enjoy it.

The above picture is the residence of an Osun artist who makes exquisite stone sculptures.

Kasali is a master wood carver. He uses the faces of Yoruba Gods and Goddesses to tell stories. Here he is seen with his son (on left) who is educated and has taken the ancestral business online. "We are working on website right now, because that is the future" he told me.

Both the father and son have travelled all over the world and exhibited their wood masterpieces.

a7rii + Meyer Optik 28/2.8 (1991; Praktica B)

This Meyer Optik 28/2.8 is rather special.

Some time after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Feinoptische Werk Görlitz was spun off from VEB Carl Zeiss and converted into a GmbH (German private limited company). For a brief time it once again produced lenses with the Meyer-Optik logo (such as the 28/2.8). However, despite privatisation efforts, the company was unable to attract investors. Feinoptische Werk Görlitz was liquidated by the Treuhandanstalt (the agency responsible for privatising former East German enterprises) on 30 June 1991.

Kasali Akangbe Ogun is a terrific artist. His wood carvings have been exhibited all over the world and he just did a workshop at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2013). He was also 'Africana Artist-in-Residence (2013) at UNC.He works with his two sons and lives in Osogbo (Osun state in Nigeria).

Here he is seen explaining one of his recent works. More stories about him coming soon!

Sangodare Gbadegesin Ajala is one of the Nigeria's finest artist and a true representative of Yoruba culture.

Sangodare has exhibited his batiks all over the world. Exhibitions have been held in Nigeria, Germany, the UK, Austria, Cuba, France, Brazil and so on. I made this picture at his home in Osogbo in Osun State of Nigeria.

Thanks to my contact Trish Mayo for reminding me of the work of the wonderful West African artist, El Anatsui. The piece seen here, Hovor II, is in the de Young museum, San Francisco.

Aziza is the spirit of the forest. This " genie" can talk to the hunters and protect them while hunting.

The kauri shells on the body, the pythons and the fact that she is standing on a sacred pottery are all symbols of her power.

The three nude male figures overlap each other and the overall flat pattern. For the viewer there is a "Ah" moment when you see them emerge.

From across the gallery it appears as a collection of symbols but as you get closer the figures emerge from the pattern. This is part of an exhibit of work by contemporary artists from Africa.
