At Al Purdy's A-Frame Cottage, the former home of the late Canadian poet Al Purdy, in Ameliasburgh, Ontario.

JustJenn and I ate a lovely meal at A-Frame (Roy Choi's restaurant) in Culver City. The photos are horrible, but the food was divine!
When Mount St. Helens erupted, this house was buried by the flow of mud and debris. The owners excavated it and turned the site into an educational stop for tourists headed to the volcano. You can tell by the stains on the siding how deeply the home was buried.
I took this from the Maersk Lancer, near the BP Schiehllion FPSO.
I actually thought it was Friday when I took it, but as I am so messed up on nights, it was taken on Thursday the 12th. Still, you know what I mean.
The large red leaning board which would usually be used for sing in its self here sits redundantly. Instead however a small white board hangs upon a hook from it. It covers less than half the larger boards surface area. Making one think that the surface of the white board is more appropriate for a hand written sign due to its less permanent nature.

Here I am using a tool known as an A-frame to measure the contour across the slope. A-frame's are the standard and most basic tool for measuring contour and are extremely easy to build and use. This compact A-frame is just scrap wood (held together by a few screws and nails) and a bubble level. You may have seen models that use a weight and string to measure the contour (known as a "bob") but a bubble level is both easier and more accurate.
The idea behind the A-frame is that each leg of the A-frame are equal length, while the cross board is secured at the exact same spot on each leg. The bubble level is then attached at the center of the cross piece. To measure the contour you simply plant one leg on the earth, then pivot off of that leg, moving the opposite leg up and down the slop until you get a level raeding. You are then on contour! Mark the position of each leg using stakes and you can step back to visualize your new swale.
