Liverpool River of Lights festival
Last weekend I spent two nights at the, now annual, River of Lights festival – two nights because on the Friday there were two artworks that I hadn’t been able to find. This year, more of the ten artworks were immersive – designed to allow visitors to wander around, touch and, in some cases, listen to. It was more difficult, because of this, to photograph the artworks without including the people interacting with them, but the festival is, after all, for visitors rather than for photographers. In any case, including the families simply made for a different kind of photography. There was one exhibit – Continuum – that I found particular difficult to photograph. It comprises a group of tall, cuboid, mirrored columns, poorly illuminated along the edges. People passing between the columns are reflected in them and so their passing makes it doubly difficult to photograph the artwork.
I’ve not listed the various installations – there is plenty of information online. For anyone who has been, some of my photos may look different from their experience because the colours and, in some cases, the shapes of some of the artworks change from moment to moment.

“Explore the mystery of our brains, where our most precious memories live.
“‘Affinity’ is an ingenious large-scale lighting installation that attempts to depict the dazzling complexity and connectivity of the human brain. Participants step within an intricate web of interconnected orbs representing neurones in the brain. When stimulated by touch, the orbs set-up a striking display of sound and light, representing the rapid-fire transmission of messages between neurones.
“The work was inspired by the electrochemical activity of the brain, in which 100 billion neurones fire impulses up to 200 times per second. The electrical signals that pass between neurones control everything we do and think. The sculpture explores the effects of Alzheimer’s on our memories within this environment.
“Those viewing ‘Affinity’ arrive to find a web of darkened globes lying dormant except for a small, curious trail of light that bounces playfully between them. However, as participants touch each globe, colourful light streams flow outwards into the sculpture and link to another orb.”

Affinity Photo only cost a fraction of that of Adobe Photoshop :-)
I pay 60 € every month for the Adobe CC membership. For about the cost of three months CC membership I could buy Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher - a one time only payment ....

Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar, adjutant general of Wisconsin, presented Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn with a Concord Minuteman statue as thanks for the Milwaukee Police Department's assistance providing security during the 133rd National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) General Conference and Exhibition Aug. 27-29 in downtown Milwaukee. Flynn said he has an affinity for the National Guard, in part because he was chief of police in Arlington, Va., on Sept. 11, 2001 when the Pentagon was struck by American Airlines Flight 77. We did node generation, post-up and affinity mapping around project pitfalls — the many horrifying, frustrating and entertaining ways all sorts of projects can go wrong.
This affinity map showed possible pitfalls that could cause projects blow up on you. The stickies were grouped into "natural" collections THEN the categories were named.
