We did an overnight trip to Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park and had such a great time. It’s one of our favorite parks out of every place we visited. We’re looking forward to going back someday!

Our campsite in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park was pretty awesome! We’re very happy we went at the very end of the season because it was pretty quiet in the park.

Our campsite in Porcupine Mountains as seen by the rocks on Lake Superior.

The view from the van in our campsite along Lake Superior. It was too cold to keep any windows open for long but either way, it was a great view!

At Nelson Dewey State Park.

In the Flambeau River State Forest. It has a bit of road noise compared to the other campground in the forest, but the sites are better (larger, spaced better, and several have lake views & access).

On the way back to Wisconsin, we road along the Great River Road & Driftless Area byways for a while.

We woke up to fog completely shrouding everything below us in Wyalusing State Park.

We’re noticing that we tend to seek out campsites by lakes & rivers. Being by water, surrounded by a forest is bliss for us. Add mountains and that’s our heaven!

Our campsite at Connors Lake Campground in the Flambeau River State Forest. Every site had a rustic bench in it, which we thought was a pretty cool touch.

We went to Grand Portage State Park and started to work our way south, back to Temperance River.

After exploring the area, we went back to one of the boat landings to eat lunch. Then, Mike took a nap while I read. It was a nice, peaceful dose of nature tonic!

The north shore of Minnesota has a lot of large rivers flowing into Lake Superior, including the Cascade River. Everything was very pretty & amazing, but we were a bit waterfalled & rivered out by the time we were done with all of the parks.

The Porkies have most of our favorite things about the outdoors- forest, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, scenic campsites, and a lot of hiking trails. We were heading back home when I took this but we had to turn back to get a photo of this picturesque sign. We weren’t quite ready to say goodbye to this wondrous park!

We were very lucky with this vehicle. After deciding to sell the van, we started looking at different vehicles. When we decided on a Bronco Sport, a dealership that was within a decent drive of us had just ordered the exact one we wanted. We were able to put a deposit on it and get it a month and a half later! The color looks different depending on the light but is basically a light sage, which happens to be my favorite color. While there are things we’ll miss about the van, we are very glad we now have this instead for our adventure mobile. We’re looking forward to making memories with it.

One of the oldest state parks in Wisconsin.

This is a pretty park and we really liked it, but it’ll most likely be a “one and done” park for us. While the campground was small and had nice, private sites, it was pretty noisy. We could hear the nearby highway a lot and jets from the Air Force base flew overhead quite a bit. We’re glad we visited, though. It was a perfect time since there weren’t crowds and the weather was perfect for hiking.

It was pretty busy in Presque Isle Park, but we managed to find a really nice parking spot with a terrific view of Lake Superior.

We had site 144 in Wyalusing State Park, which had a view of the Wisconsin & Mississippi Rivers 500 feet below us.

The last half of the drive to Craig Lake got a bit rough and was slow going, but the van handled it very well!

We had a really nice view of Lake Superior.

The sun was sparkling on the water, making it look like diamonds. We'll take this over watching TV any night!

We had site 17, which was our favorite of all the sites in the campground. It was nicely spaced from the other sites, is a big site, and has a view of the lake (with a path leading to it). Just a bit of road noise during our stay, but it was quiet otherwise and very dark!

In Temperance River State Park.

We did a photo shoot at a state park after getting the entire body Line-X’d.

All of the outside paint is done over in Line-X. We liked it with the grey paint, but like this even more!

We parked for a little while to take in this area. Everything at the park was so rustic and pristine. Such a great park!

We watched it from our campsite in Temperance River State Park.

We stayed at site 16 in the Creekside campground for the first two nights and really loved it. It was quiet, dark, and the river lulled us to sleep. Some of the hiking trails are accessible from the campground, as well, which is perfect!

We went for a day trip to upper Michigan and although the colors were past peak, I find the gold just as dazzling. Something about that bright sunny color is so uplifting!

On the road to Laughing Whitefish Falls

We woke up to a beautiful sight!

Wilderness State Park

We got a new paint job with Line-X and no longer have to worry about hail, scratches, and rust on the paint. We also love how the matte black looks. They really did a terrific job!

We spent our second night at Temperance River State Park in a different site. It had a view of Lake Superior like the other site did but was a bit less private than #25, but we still liked it a lot.

Healthy, free, the world before me…” -Walt Whitman

I love the sections that had gnarly trees on them!

In Hungry Mother State Park.

Along the Iron Mountain Road scenic drive. If you zoom in, you’ll see Mount Rushmore just to the left of the van.

We had a great view of the beach & Lake Huron from our campsite in Harrisville State Park!

We passed this awesome statue on our way into The Badlands and I was instantly enamored! Prairie dogs are one of my favorite animals.

We had a site with a decent lake view and stairs leading down to it. The campground had just opened for the season that day and there were just a few other campers. Not a place we’d want to stay when it’s busy because the sites are pretty much on top of each other with no privacy. It was definitely nice at this time of year, though!

We picked up a shiny new 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend edition in cactus gray today and are loving it so far!

The sign before Little Sand Bay.

Our campsite in Myre-Big Island State Park had a nice view!

We put a mountain/bigfoot graphic on the back side windows and tinted the front windows to match the back. We also found a bike rack that fits it, so it’s ready for adventures of all kinds!

We stopped here on our way home to have a late lunch/early dinner. It’s been two years since we’ve been here last and since it’s our favorite restaurant, we were very excited to eat here again! They had indoor dining, but we’re not at that comfort level yet despite being fully vaccinated, so we got it to go and ate in the van. Mike had the Italian Beef (plus beer to bring home) and I had a Quesadilla Burger. All vegan and 100% delicious!

It was quite peaceful as the sun went down at Mauthe Lake. We had a really nice view of the lake from our campsite.

We took the van to Kohler Andrae State Park to take photos of the new body armor job. I really love how the reflection in the back window looks in this. We were next to Lake Michigan and the dunes were right behind us.

We stopped here for the night while on our way to The Badlands. It was a really nice recreation area!

Our first night camping of the year was a good one! It was dark, quiet, and we slept really well.
